Am I glad I found your 3 part series in repairing old Bachmann pancakes. I have an old Bachmann EMD F9 with the 2 smaller gears broken in half. Will the baking soda fix work on completely broken gears? I wanted your sage advice before I attempted it. Do you use the plastic type Superglue or just the regular? These gears are tiny and would be hard to work on.They are 9 mm wide with 20 teeth and the inner gear has 8 teeth. The inside hole is about 2 mm. I looked on ebay and could not find any gears to match these. Any suggestions? Really enjoy your videos. Hope to see the final one in this series soon.

Yes it will work. If they keep splitting after that, you can replace the gears with some DIY assorted robotics gears, but use the baking soda method first.

I think this is the one - Fabrication Situation Copper electrical pickups - I know there are more, but I don't remember what videos they are in! I have playlist called Tyco and Pancake Motor Rebuild and that list has some pretty good rebuilds, including making dual motors and wiring 2 locomotives together. If I did another today, I would use the phosphor bronze wire from Tichy because it has better springy properties. Pretty much all the AHM rebuilds required making copper wire pickups and AHM Model Power is another playlist with lots of power pickup building!

@@carldean5987 I actually think I should pull out one of these locomotives and rebuild it today! It's been a while since we've done that!

Locktite super glue and thread. Open crack slightly pet super glue in crack. Then thread it closed just to hold it tight. Toothpick to clean Glu out of the hole. Ooo proper cleaning with Dawn dish soap is the first step. Mine runs fine. No clicking and no baking soda.

I have 2 other videos that show how to do that, but when the gap is too far gone, baking soda is a sure way bridge the gap. You are right on when you say dish soap first, I rinse with alcohol after to insure no detergent remains. Even a little oil will cause join to make that dreaded clicking sound.

The thread trick does deserve a video. It's a smaller version of the rope and tar trick.

Where did you get the traction tires and what is the part number

eBay - many sellers, the black ones are easier to work with over the clear ones and cheaper but last about 3 years
