    That looks so 1980’s!! Back when I was in high school 🏫!! The Portavision 60 is like 👍 the Mercedes Benz of the bedroom 🛌. I think 🤔 your Portavision 60 radio 📻 has a 4 inch speaker 🔊. I’ve ALWAYS been a fan of metal speaker 🔊 grilles. Tip, I’d use some compressed air in a can, to blow the dust off of the speaker 🔊 cone. Just don’t do this at full force. This could rupture the speaker 🔊 cone, or make the paper 📄 cap 🧢 in the middle of the speaker 🔊 to come off. Your friend, Jeff.

    Great review. I wish I had that radio when I was younger. I could've listened to any TV station on any band, not just VHF back then.

    Continuous tone control (such as the one this radio has) is a very nice feature. I like to hear FM in a gentle audio - not too much bass, intelligible enough but not too much highs. I regret recent radios do not have it, or otherwise only a 'High-Low' toggle is provided. Some recent medium-to-high-end DSP radios (about $50 USD or higher) provide bandwidth selector for AM and SW bands, but rarely provide something for FM.

    Nice to see video's like this, it reminds me to the good old day's, as here in Europe the brand Tandy sold these radio's here too, most under the brand-name "Realistic, Memorex, Micronta and other, although that was not the real brand of the radio, most where Japanese brands and other, probably that was why they sound so good, I have no idea, but they sold good products like my first turntable Realistic LAB 6O, great analogue tuners, casette tape deck's and so on. I have used them for years, I guess the brand-name Realistic was underrated and disappeared from European marked. On the present day people here talk so much about DAB+ (digital radio), internetradio, streaming Spotify and more like that. AM are only a few radiostations, and in a couple of years FM will disappear too. Every radio for sale, the new ones must have possibility to receive DAB+ or else they can't be sold, except second hand radio's and those from eBay is the only way to find good old radio's. I am Dutch, so my English is not perfect but I want you to know that I like your channel, a good way to see the good old radio's back and to hear them play. Keep up the good work!! Greets from Belgium.

    Your low VHF may yet be useful if the FM band expands downward to 80 or 76. One of my first shortwave radios was a Realistic Astronaut 4, obviously a four band radio which had shortwave frequencies from 3,9 to 22 MHz. They made some really cool radios.

    That portable TV radio was made a few days before I was born! (September 1986) it was made in August. Very rare for a radio to have a UHF TV band. It usually be VHF TV band from channel 2-6 (TV 1) and channel 7-13 (TV 2). If analog TV didn't go away, you would have listened to your favorite TV shows like your daytime soaps, comedies, court shows, movies, talk shows, and news on this Realistic Portavision-60 any where on the go. The only thing is missing is the NOAA weather radio band. That big radio is the same age as me!

    I have a couple of realistic radios that I got off of eBay from the late 70s-early 80s that I had when I was growing up… The sound is great on FM; I just wish I could fix the volume control which is scratchy

    • @todderbert
      @todderbert  Před 10 měsíci +1

      DeOxit Fader Formula. I use the spray, and put some on a small plastic swab, and try to get it into the volume pot. Always use the Fader formula, the others can destroy the volume pot by removing the thin carbon film.

    Nice video, sounds great, looks good too. They don't make them like that anymore. Hopefully you can fix that scratchy volume knob.

    funny how much 80s music is on FM in 2023. I guess it counts as “oldies” now. 50s was oldies in the 90s.

    The really, REALLY strange thing?
    The only other radio I have ever seen that had the UHF TV band on it that wasn't a Rat Shack is an RCA that was built as a TV for blind people.
