- This is my cover of an anti war song by Tony McPhee from the Groundhogs possibly one of my favourite Blues Rock Bands with a Heavy emphasis's on the Rock.
Tony is also an an excellent acoustic guitar player.
This track is the lead track from the Groundhogs incredible second album from 1970 called "Thank Christ for the Bomb"
the video shows real footage of warfare from the 1st and 2nd world wars.
with everything that is going on in the world at he moment..it just seems we don't learn that war serves no purpose what so ever it only bring more Despair and hatred and suffering - Hudba

Thank you Gail...Im glad you enjoyed my cover..thanks for dropping by
All the best and have a good weekend
Stuart
yes i did you too :)
Excellent cover my friend. Tasty choice to overdub the vocals, creates a great effect. And the 12-string sounds very powerful (a bit trebly for my taste but very loud). We are living strange days indeed… :(
Thanks Joao..im glad you enjoyed it and thanks for dropping by..the slightly treble sound is because it is an all solid spruce top with maple back and sides guitar and they dont have the same bass projection as a rosewood back and sides and also probably because i recorded it just with my camera microphone..good as it is ...its not as good quality as when i use my dedicated microphone or plug straight into a mixing desk
Have a great weekend
Stuart
you have very nice sounding 12 string but i think a lot of cheaper rosewood back and sides 12 strings can sound a bit bland and generic..maple has a sound all of its own which i find appealing and unique but can be a bit trebley compared to rosewood
I know the groundhogs - they made a record with Billy Boy Arnold in the late 1970s and they toured and recorded with John Lee hooker in the 1960s. Did you play your own "folk"-verion of that song or did they play in that way too (and not only blues-rock)?
Thumb up
Framat
Hi Framat there is video footage on you tube of the groundhogs playing along with John on you tube maybe 1966
im glad you enjoyed my cover have a great day and thank for your comment
I know the clip. I have a record called I COVER THE WATERFRONT with Hooker & Groundhogs with an overdub of a h0rn arrangement. Later the record was released without the overdub under another title btw. Jimmy Reed toured with the groundhaogs, too on his first visit in the UK but he was not satisfied with their sound and prefered THEM btw
well i can only say that John lee hooker has better taste in backing bands than Jimmy Reed then as the Groundhogs are a genuine top notch blues band where s THEM are not..not saying they are not a Good band..because they are more a beat group
I read the Jimmy Reed Bio and it had nothing to do whith who was the better band. The main problem was that Jimmy Reed could not rehearse with the bands because of a short time schedule and he played UK and Ireland in less than 2 weeks if I remember correctly. The Groundhogs were recommended by Hooker to Jimmy Reed but he did not know how the sound like. He preferred Van Morrison's band because they played not as loud and more laid-back than the Groundhogs. I have to admid I always thought that THEM was only a studio band with changing members and was surprised that they really were a band.
I bow to your superior knowledge on this subject framat
