Self Entitled School Run Mum Rage

  • This ignorant School Run Mum thinks I should risk dropping my bike so her child can walk in the least muddy bit of the alleway. I tell her it's an access road (it's actually classed as a private road, non council) and she goes into a self entitled rant about how her little cherub should not have to walk in the mud. - So walk round the block on the pavement then and don't take short cuts on private property dumbass!
    She doesn't like being answered back and moans and nags her way up the alleyway.
    I feel sorry for her husband being married to such a naggy cow!

    Update: there are now signs at either end of the alleyway which state Private No Public Right Of Way erected by the local council.
    It has only taken me 18 months of effort to get the council to do this, signs cost under £100 plus the cost to be put up.
    More money must have been spent on the endless emails and letters I've had to send and receive from them.
    So all those who keep repeating 'it's public right of way' YOU ARE WRONG!

      @TheJR1948 none at all really, they still walk down there and let their kids run about, but now it's signposted if someone gets hurt it's their own fault.
      No one can claim it's a public right of way either.
      As the woman in the video repeats several times "Where are the signs?"
      The answer is "At either end you naggy cow!"

I know I get a little heated when someone approaches me in the same lane oncoming. Not saying she's right in the slightest, just think you should look at things from both sides. • @Lister_of_Smeg
      @Lister_of_Smeg  Před 6 lety +60

      uptheduffagain I have the dog poo problem as well. When I moved in the alleyway was overgrown and you couldn't drive down it. I spent money and time clearing it and then built my garage. People then started walking down it. I picked up 21 bags of dog shit after the first month. I caught the guy and told him not to dump dog shit there and I reported him to the council who also caught him and threatened him with a fine. So I put the cameras up and mostly it has stopped.

    • @uptheduffagain
      @uptheduffagain Před 6 lety +55

      Lister of Smeg LOL you could be me with what you are saying.When we moved in,the access lane was full of brambles and long grass,and being a car enthusiast I didn't fancy getting the car scratched up so I spent ages with a petrol strummer clearing it all and even filled in holes with gravel.But people still use it as a dumping ground,we've had black bags of rubbish dumped,mattresses and even and old door.
      Believe it or,I actually got complained at from a neighbour who accused me of using the petrol strummer to piss him off on purpose,and when I pointed it out that I was clearing the area,I just got a load of abuse and was told I'm selfish.To cut a missive long story short,I put up CCTV cameras to catch anyone dumping things,and I ended up catching the neighbour smashing up my garage door and then he came to the front of our house in his underpants and tried to smash in our windows with a baseball bat and was shouting that he was going to kill our new born baby.As a result of the cameras he got sentenced to 28 month suspended prison sentence 3 weeks ago,and put on an anger management course.
      Who would have thought trying to look after an area at the rear of a property could cause so much trouble.

    • @weeardguy
      @weeardguy Před 5 lety

      Yeah, I have the same thing too. On my way too work, there is a cycle-path with a kind of gravel-part next to it, as sometimes wider vehicles need to be on the cycling path to maintain the traintracks next to it (as I can relate to the fact you're not going to drive a small dragliner or whatever kind of heavy equipment for nearly a kilometer before you get to the point where you need to work).
      Almost everyone there understands that for me, on my bike, riding on the gravel part is risky as **** and thus they swerve to my right (please remember I live in the Netherlands and this is therefor seen as 'the wrong way')
      But one time I encountered some co-worker who still had to make his way to the people already at the scene of work and he just kept going, even when I pointed at him like 'to the right, now'.
      And then a whole bunch of swearing started ;) It's so funny how completely oblivious some people can be...

    I believe, to maintain limited right of way, or to enforce private ownership, you need to deny access for 24 hours a year. The gates of Windsor Great park are closed once a year to reinforce ownership. I rented a lockup once and a barrier was put up every 12 months, it was in the middle so you could exit either right or left, but not pass through. That may be your answer. Unfortunately there is no cure for stupid!

      Lister of Smeg shame and odd that the school is refusing to help. You could go to the local paper (if u have one). We had the exact same problem a few years back. People were walking directly through our garden because it was like a snicket and took you out next to the primary school. Because it was our garden, on our property that we owned, my dad put a fence and a gate up with a padlock and the amount of angry people we had knocking on our front door because we dared to fence off our own property was amazing. And to make it worse, we had chickens and ducks in the back of the garden and children thought it would be funny to chase them, and the parents never did a thing. It wouldn't be too bad but birds can die from stress induced from something as simple as that. We lost 6 birds because of the lack of parenting skills.

    Here's what I would have done had I seen a motorcycle coming at me while I was walking down a long driveway with my child in my hand:
    Move out of the way, probably smile and give a thumb's up because all my kids love motorcycles and I think they are cool, too.
    Here's what Lister would have done had he seen me walking down that long driveway with my child in my hand:
    Carried on and perhaps waved at my child because he would have pointed at the motorcycle.
    It was a non-event. She turned it into an event.

    As a kid I was taught by my parents to make way for vehicles passing when walking on roads, and to walk on the right hand side, it's obvious that as a bike you can't easily switch from one track to the next over wet grassy mud, you'd just slip.
    If they had proper shoes they could easily step over without getting mud on themselves, or better yet, choose not to use a muddy track as a shortcut.

    • @Lister_of_Smeg

      Harry Akira Eaton makes sense to me. I have no idea why they choose to walk down there as it's not a shortcut, all it cuts out is one house length to the corner of the road and they have to walk to that road for the school entrance anyway.

      Really ? so having a dog in an urban area ,letting it fowl the streets and bark at all times of the day and night is OK ? because THAT is the reality I'm talking about in towns up and down the UK. There were also 2000 serious attacks on children last year leaving the victims dead or with life changing injuries. I'm sure the US has similar problems. Many owners are NOT responsible people.

    I grew up in a private cul-de-sac, and there was a massive sign at the entrance to the street that blatantly stated what it was. Even so, many people came down the street thinking that it would be a way through to another road, and they used to do so recklessly while children were out playing. It was normally very safe to play on the road as very few people came down there, and those who did were neighbours who were aware that there were children living there. I can't count how many times people screamed at us from their cars for playing on the road, only for our parents or a neighbour to come out and rather sarcastically ask them if they were blind for not reading the sign stating that this was both private property and a cul-de-sac. We always got a good laugh out of it. It got annoying when people drove down and blocked the street and driveways with large cars on the day of parades, though.

Parking in our lane is even a hazard to children walking in and out of the school; parking on a blind bend within 20m of the school entrance, at times when kids with no road sense are swarming, but as its not a public road, councils (borough and country) do not want to know. Matter of time before its kid v car, and I know everyone will be outraged, and it wont be any of their faults. Seems to be a reflection on our society. Stay safe on that bike.
