  • Emerald Lake Trail is one of the most popular trails in Rocky Mountain National Park and can be done year around. After reaching Emerald Lake, I switched to winter climbing gear and went further up Tyndall Gorge to check out nearby couloirs, and then proceeded to glissade back down to the lake. Total stats: 4.3 miles with 1300ft elevation gain

This outing is certainly more than just Emerald Lake! Beautiful views of the rocks on the face of Hallett. Quite a glissade. Thanks!

Nice video, I was wondering how much snow was up there. I was going to do that hike on Sunday but it got stormy.

Thanks Austin. Still quite a bit of snow on the trail but one can get up to Emerald with spikes only. Beyond that skis or crampons would be needed

That's an alternate way to get to Flattop mountain and Hallett peak instead of the Flattop mountain trail--but the ascent up that glacier looks undoable for casual hikers.

Agree. To go all the way up to Flattop, one has to get up Tyndall Glacier which requires mountaineering equipment. Dragon’s Tail couloir is another way to go up but it’s even more steep. It’s on my list of things to do for sure
