  • Down on the farm in Illinois, it was finally time to plant sweet corn. Tractor Time with Tim and family tills the soil with a John Deere 3320 (3033R) compact tractor. The fertilizer gets spread by a huge John Deere spreader from the local co-op. Then they plant Ambrosia sweet corn with a 12 row planter and John Deere 8410! Just a normal spring day on the homestead.

    Tim I have watched nearly all
    Of your videos. I have to say what a blessing it is to have a man with a family such as yours to learn from. Your interactions with your family , friends and strangers, show how humble and gracious you are in everyday life. I believe you are an absolutely fantastic role model. If we all conducted ourselves such as you do. We would all be in a better place in this world.

      Jon, I really don't know what to say.
      First, I don't deserve any of those kind words. Those close to me would likely disagree with you on most of the points above. Thankfully, we control the editing, so my grouchy and unkind moments get cut out of the videos. I guess this is sort of like what will happen to our lives when we see God, assuming we have accepted Christ into our lives. The grouchy, unkind, unloving, sinful moments will be cut out, and only the good parts will remain. That is a good feeling.
      Anyway, Christy is the most forgiving person I have ever met.
      My siblings are all amazing people. I'm the least lovable (most cranky) of all of them.
      My dad and mom, Wow. You've met both of them in our videos.
      I'll never be half the man my dad is. However, it is something to strive for. Somehow he always knows how to handle a situation.
      Again, thanks for the kind words. I really appreciate them.

    All this farm equipment designed and made when it was and improvements over the years just amazes me, nothing like seeing this first hand. I had family that at one time use to farm in Illinois but have all left this earth. Thank you Tim for sharing, I find it very interesting!!

      @TractorTimewithTim  Před 6 lety

      Yea, that planter is vintage 1994. I think you've seen the newer planter in one of our earlier videos this spring, right? Much more "high tech'.
      Having said that, they have done their best to keep this planter up to date as well. The seed meters have all been replaced, and it has almost all of the high end monitoring of the other planter.
      The main difference is that the other planter has 'variable rate' technology which allows them to vary seed population rates by soil productivity in the same field. You'll see this in the next farming video.

    I'd like to see a video on how to keep the weeds down in the sweet corn since it's non-GMO. Sometimes I shake my head at your videos, but for the most part I really enjoy them. :D

      @@TractorTimewithTim I planted Serendipity for the first time last year. It's outstanding. I have planted ambrosia in the past, and it's ok, but like you said in the video, there's a lot of varieties out there that are much sweeter (better) in my opinion. We liked bodacious, but my co-op doesn't sell it anymore. I still plant incredible most years and that's very good too.

    • @TractorTimewithTim
      @TractorTimewithTim  Před 6 lety +2

      Long story on that. ...some of it personal...some not so personal. At the highest level, it was clear that there was not enough farmland to 'go around'. Not enough to support all of us. I had a passion for computers, so I left the farm to pursue my college degree in Computer Science.
      Overall, this has been a good choice for me and my family. However, sometimes I wonder if I was meant to be farming.

    What if you get a cab machine and remove the doors? I know you can do that will bobcats and remove the door when it’s the summer so you don’t bake if you don’t have ac. So when it’s the winter you have a nice cab and summer you can pop the doors off and still be able to kinda talk out.

    • @TractorTimewithTim

  • @TractorsNStuff

    I think you are simply not used to having a cab tractor. I feel right at home in mine, especially when it's 90 and dusty!

    • @TractorTimewithTim
      @TractorTimewithTim  Před 6 lety

      I have spent more hours in a cab tractor than an open station tractor.
      I'm not sure where you got that I'm not used to it.
      Also, I'm not sure why you can't understand what we are saying about interacting with each other and our clients. This is one of the major differences between our videos and everyone else's.
      No one wants to hear me monologue all day!

    • @TractorsNStuff
      @TractorsNStuff Před 6 lety

      Tractor Time with Tim I got that because Everytime you sat in a cab you complained about it. Not just you "can't interact" but its like "watching a video" or whatever. Which leads me to believe that you have limited experience in cabs. I interact with my clients and workers all the time inside my cab. Larger farms have crews of people in cabs. Actually, open station tractors are more noisy, which leads to poor audio quality in your videos.

    • @TractorTimewithTim
      @TractorTimewithTim  Před 6 lety

      You don’t think my commentary about ‘watching a video’ vs. ‘closer to the action’ was useful to viewers?
      Our job is to communicate. I thought this was an effective analogy which helps to explain to folks considering either option.
      Further, I explain how great a cab is. Quiet, clean, etc. I also encourage our viewers to get a cab..and have done so in EVERY video where this topic has come up.
      I recognize that you don’t grasp the subtleties of our video production. That is fine.
      I will conclude by re-iterating that I encourage our viewers to get a cab when possible. They are great.
