  • Aeolus at The Eden Project - Acoustic Wind Pavilion, Luke Jerram is the Artist and Aeolus is a giant stringed musical instrument, An acoustic and optical pavilion designed to make audible the silent shifting pattens of the wind and visually amplify the ever changing sky. It at Eden until the 9th October and occupies a site on a hill close to a planting called Wild Chile. The hill was close to the sight of a much reported, alleged UFO landing around 26 years ago, eery or what. Listen to the sound of Aeolus

    On the plus side, it may provide full-time employment for a piano tuner with step ladders. On the minus side, the notes say it's a stringed instrument, but that's it. So they don't want us to understand, rather to be awestruck, stupefied... my guess is that it's a big aeolien harp. I'm interested in sound sculptures, and this ain't bad, but I had the idea that the eden project had a mission to inform rather than artificially mystify.

      @goran840 Před 4 lety

      I know this is an ancient comment, but the uploader is not the artist. If you search for Luke Jerram and Aeolus you can find his webpage that has much more information. But yes, it's a big aeolien harp.

    The ends on both sides are open. Don't you have to close one side to make "noise"?

    • @scionofgrace
      @scionofgrace Před 8 lety +1

      +Larry Lem Nope. Think of a brass or woodwind instrument: it's open at both ends. Capping one end would make the tone go down by 1 octave, but would also limit playing, since it wouldn't sound if the wind was blowing on the capped end.

    I'm not sure the neighbors appreciate the noise 24/7. Many would say this is a type of 'pollution' they want no part of.

    • @timothyturpin5869
      @timothyturpin5869 Před 8 lety +11

      +Larry Fenn You could label almost any sound noise pollution if it was unwanted. The sole characteristic separating noise from other acoustic phenomena is its unwantedness. It's a question of attitude towards the given sound rather than something intrinsic to the sound itself.
