Brother… brother 9 years later you saved my life. I have dealt with non functioning vent selection for the past 4 months in the Vegas heat. I cannot express to you how much this video helped. Who knew the vent selector ran off a small vacuum hose in the engine bay. Me and my mom thank you from the deepest part of our heart.
Thank you. As others have mentioned this is the best video on getting behind the dash on a Chevy Impala. I just had to replace the hazard switch and the contacts on the blower control switch (1,2,3,4,5) needed cleaned. I thought it was bad but upon cleaning the contacts it started working. Your video was invaluable.
Thank you so much for this video!! Near as i can tell this is the most in depth house to troubleshooting and repairing this problem on the Internet. Not even the Haynes manual goes through this process; there is no mention of this issue which i suspect is/was pretty common. Great shots of the key parts of the steps, especially the dash removal. As the owner of a car with this ailment living in the South you're a lifesaver!!
So my 04 & the 05 (checked on the u-pull-it) both have an all solid state version of the AC Controller with 9 fan speeds not 5. So for the AC this only applies up to 03. My fan switch was behaving intermittent and the blend door actuator wasn’t working. Then the fan quit. I went straight to the control module & fan. The fan had continuity. Put a tester on the connection to the module got nothing ordered a control unit hooked it up and the blend door worked but not the fan. Checked the voltage from the controller and the voltage changed with the position. Hmmm. Check power to the fan and it had power. Put power to the fan and nothing. Apparently it shorted out. Don’t know why that didn’t come up in the computer codes? Replaced the fan everything works. It was both the electronic controller and the fan.
Hey Tech Bill you are the best man, I just fixed my neighbors car also. Different make and model but same issues. Check for vacuum, check the controller, then I from the break in the line. Cut the line evenly and slid a piece of tubing connecting the 2 lines. I feel like a mechanic now LOL

good video, did this today after watching vid , vacuum line was broken/melted in engine compartment near + battery/fuse area , did not take long at all to fix and put dash all back together.
Mine too was broken, just below the fuse box near the bottom edge of the battery. I just used some new chainsaw fuel line I had laying around to patch it. Thank you so much for posting this video. 2003 impala, 305,000 miles and counting. Yes, I've had to do some repairs on the 3.4
Same here, thanks so much. The break in my hose was also next to the battery. Cut out the injured area and pushed the new ends into a 3 inch piece of silicon hose and sealed the ends with silicone. Now works. Didn't have to take the dash apart since that was the first place I looked thanks to you guys. The hardest part was getting the battery out of the way. Heckuva way to route a hose!
I found the broken vacuum line under the wire loom by the battery just as you said. I cleaned the ends and spliced with neoprene hose. All modes working again. The mode selector was inop for about a year. Was hard to get ice and fog off windshield. You are brilliant.
That's a well thought out video it solved my problems my break was the black line around the battery in two places when a jackleg replaced the water pump the line was broke and didn't care to tell me. This video is awesome !
I had someone do this before, and they didn't disconnect the battery or any of the cables that you did in this video. Everything worked fine for a good 1.5-2 years. Now the panel is very finicky so I bought a new one that should arrive tomorrow. Is it possible to remove the Climate panel without removing the dash by cutting the edges where the screws are (to expose them) and then sliding the broken one out / new one in that way? I'm not one to care about aesthetics at this point. Just want to know if it's possible to do that way.

Our shifter is on the floor with console, do we need to remove that as well?

nice work. i have similar problem however my break is in the black line near the battery.
Do I have to take all that apart to fix the knob on the panel?? I have heat and ac and the fan speed, I just cant change where it goes.

fixed mine as well..broken by the positive terminal also...now switches floor to defrost but passenger side still cold...

is this to fix the no heat issue? i have no heat and i have replaced the thermostat and all that?
