- Final strip down! Well this was quite challenging at times, but I’m really pleased that we finally got the car to its rawest form! Now…will it survive the rust treatment?

When I first started watching your channel, a few months ago, I thought you were dedicated, inspiring and highly motivational...
However.... after today's episode, I've come to the conclusion that you are certifiably INSANE!!!
That’s what my doctor says!
There are only a few Men in this world who are not afraid to restore such a rusty wreck. Respect !!
Thanks! It’s not as bad as you’d think!
“There’s only so many nuts people can watch”
That’d be you for taking on this mammoth task I guess?😉🤣
Keep up the work, loving watching things👍🏻
I will always be the nut haha, thanks for watching!
Sunday morning, bacon and egg sandwich, cup of tea and more news of the Aston! nice.
Perfect start to the day! I’m on cup number 4, tea is the power behind restoration!
This video really shows the great job that was done with your mate welding the support frame onto the car... I look forward to watching the welding of the new panels... just like a Meccano Set build when we were kids!
It’s certainly keeping it all together! Piece by piece we’ll get there!
I don't doubt for a single moment you can do this. But I am very sure you are the only guy in this country with sufficient courage to undertake such a project. I do admire you.
If you ever need a helping hand for a day, do let me know 👍
I appreciate that! It’s going to be a marathon rather than a sprint. I just have to make sure I retain my sanity!
Always keen for a helping hand! Pop me an email sometime, it’s in my about section!
Never quite understood some people , when stripping cars down ,Don’t wear OVERALLS , that is the first thing I do . And keeps the missus happy .otherwise I would not get fed with all the washing she would have on her plate . 😂😂😂😂😂😂
I started wearing them halfway through…after I got in trouble!!
love the way at 4:40 when you lift the prop shaft out, the passenger sill casually comes off as well....😀
It’s a special feature 😉
@@HudsonAutoFilms clearly needs sprucing up 😀
My mouth is always on the floor watching you and the projects you have on the go.Good luck, you’re a brave man.
Thank you! Appreciate the support :)
Great work Charlie!
You're logic is solid in establishing a firm and square base to build the car around.
It looks as though you have quite a few fans now, and our DBS Chums group is rooting for you to a man.
I fiddled with my O/S window frame and glass for half a day to get it all fitting nicely. I've been 7 years at this DBS build, and no end in sight!
Good luck!
Tom
Thank you Tom! It’s slowly taking shape! The channel has grown quite a lot, it’s nice to be able to show a DBS go from 0 hopefully to perfect!
I couldn’t do it without your knowledge and support!
Glad you for the fitment sorted! Yours will be the best around by far!!
May I ask what part of the car do you have to keep to preserve the vin number? I do have to say that it is nice to see that you are not afraid of hard work. I an looking forward to seeing the car start to come back together. I wish you the best for luck and I keep Watching with great anticipation.
The fire wall I believe
The vin is actually on the front crossmember, so arguably that is the only part. As unfortunately, the DBS always has been a rust attractor. So I’ve seen ones with essentially brand new chassis apart the the crossmember.
I’m looking forward to it being rust free! Thank you for your support, lots to come!
Wow this car makes Yorkshire Car Restoration's Disaster Datsun 240Z look mint.😀
Hardly a project in comparison!
@@HudsonAutoFilms Yeah totally different league😀😀
_Man's best friend is his needle-scaler!_
Fantastic edit - your best yet.
Amazed those fasteners didn't round/shear off - good skills.
Judging by the nasty dust, looks like the arch liners are aluminium; talk about criminal negligence. Chemistry was not considered during assembly!
Thank you! I’m really glad you enjoyed!
On the whole I’m shocked how easily everything came undone. I have more grief from cars that aren’t rusty!
The steel/aluminium mix is always a baffling combination!!
Damn that's a rusty chassis... can't wait to see it all done.
It will be a huge transformation!
issac is the jesus of car restoration !
Jesus would have it finished already
@@russelblackwell6041 in 3 days !
He’s good with nuts! That’s for sure
Guys Don't mess around Hand sanding Sand blast with Real fine silica sand, Its like Glass Bead. Much nicer finish.
I think even that would blow through too much. Going down a rather unusual route, but not labour intensive 🧐
Can't wait to see it spin around, get it mounted on that rotisserie :)
Me too! Will be an awesome moment!
I'm fairly new to your channel I'm trying to figure out if your mad or genius this has to be the biggest build on CZcams I look at that car and see £10 worth of scrap sod Freddies p1 I don't think there is anyone else that would take this on very excited to see where the build goes 😁 best of luck man your going to need it 😂
I think mad is probably more accurate. The value mainly lies in the V5! Thanks for watching! It’ll get done 😎
Dear oh dear oh dear, I previously suggested you should be awarded the VC for tackling this project, having seen today’s episode I think we’d better get an application in for a Purple Heart as well! 😱🙀
I think I need it 😥
This is not a car but just the ghost of what was a car long time ago.
There was a famous chap who rose from the dead, I forget his name. Thanks for your input Greedo
The way that sill moves at 4:38 is terrifying!
It’s a special feature!
@HudsonAutoFilms I have no doubt you have the skills to get it sorted!
Triggers broom springs to mind looking at this haha
Haha it’s unfortunate how true that is
You are. Definitely a braver man than me Charlie and obviously a lot more skilled
I watch with great anticipation of progress on this pile of rust with a bit of aluminium stuck on it 👍👍🇦🇺
Brave…perhaps mad is more fitting! But thank you for your support. It’s coming along!
When does a car, cease being a car? If completed, this will be more Hudson than Aston! I wish you well, and will follow this to it’s conclusion (hopefully I will live long enough tho see this 😂)
Don’t worry, it will be done sooner than you think! But I think it will be more of a Hudson by that point!
You're a brave man for taking that on. But look at the positives - you probably have the only vintage Aston Martin in the world that won't leak on your floor.
Exactly! Very cheap to run as well.
No oil under it means no oil in it certainly applies here
This is a great story. Not being able to touch the rust, it is hard to determine how much needs to be replaced. It looks like it has been swimming in the sea 😮🥴.
However, like you said, the equipment used to manufacture the car was basic stuff and therefore you can bring it back.
It will not be much longer now before you start to repair it🎉
Stay positive and keep on with the great work.
I’m glad you’re enjoying! What’s there is actually very solid. There seems to be very little middle ground. It’s either thick metal or gone completely!
I can’t wait for it to be clean metal! The transformation will be very cool
becoming even more of a candidate for a rat rod aston ! keep the patina and go crazy
I’m thinking more of a road race spec 😎
But, even the patina has gone missing 😮😂
@@thefreedomguyuk haha, I do have the body thankfully
If you can get your mind past whether it makes commercial sense to do this, then it's great. I'm guessing you enjoy this like many of us do and that's why you do it. It's certainly a project and will be VERY interesting.
Absolutely, it’s only sensible for an enthusiast to take on. It will be a huge job, but lots of fun and a good thing to document!
I now a 78 year old petrolhead bought a 1956 Chevy Pickup in South Africa, stripped it down to chassis and almost single handed fabricated panels, welded some patch panel (as available from USA) and fitted jaguar running gear. That project took me from 2004 to 2020 to complete, cost a fortune and at the end all I could say was, "I did it" loved almost every minute of it!
Two regrets I had all the rusted parts sand blasted and should have done a chemical dip! and I never did a CZcams channel...Got the photos and the memories. Good luck to two young men and all the very best...
I hope that rust removal method is not anything blasting related.
Nope! Wouldn’t be anything left!
Looking forward to see how you deal with the rust removal, you've hinted that acid dip is a little too extreme and probably would entirely remove (destroy) some of the wafer thin pieces, leaving you without a template for fabricating replacement pieces. My guess is that you'll opt for dry ice blasting which is expensive but checks all the boxes and is more gentle on those fragile pieces. It also has the added bonus of making cleanup much easier. As for the engine, an AM 6 cyl is ridiculously expensive and would not enhance the value of the car as it won't be original to the car. You might want to consider the Jaguar AJ6 engine which can be modified to significantly increase power beyond AMV8 levels? It would be nice to use a dogleg 5 speed box like the original to retain some of the quirky spirit of the car. Just.a few thoughts on this fascinating project.
I always find it incredible that someone actually allowed a car like this to get into such a state. It's not like they were ever a cheap car! I guess I've never been rick enough to not care.
Remarkable isn’t it. There was a funny time when, they weren’t worth much, but were still expensive to keep. Meanwhile DB5/6 were holding value and shared lots of similar bits. So breakers bought up DBS’ and just parted them to oblivion:/
I admire your optimism
It’s needed for a project like this!
I look at the work ahead and the word Lazarus comes to mind 🤣👌🏽😎best of luck….. but I don’t think you need it👍🏼
Haha that’s accurate! Thank you for the support! Looking forward to sharing the journey!
Interesting how the comments divide into the armchair experts saying "you'll never finish it" and those (who probably have got their own hands dirty on labours of love like this) who are cheering you on. - I'm in the second group! 👏
Very well said! When people say that’s it’s not possible or it can never be safe, they immediately show they don’t know what they’re talking about! As you know, these were hand made and constructed from box and sheet metal! How is that not possible to repair! I would agree if it was a modern Monique, but it’s not! Anyway, thanks for being on board! It’s going to be a fun ride!
This car is now for sale on car and classic, you can bid for it if you want!
Great....Loose and spruce....Bruce.!...Very enjoyable. Well done. Nice that you have other builds to show us soon. You rteally have got well organised in such a short time.....keep it up and God bless.
Thanks for the support as always Jeff! Lots of interesting builds coming. When I made the channel, I didn’t expect anyone to watch - but now I’ve got to make sure I put something out often! Which the DBS alone wouldn’t allow! Take care!
It's all progress. I'm up for watching fiddly detailed reconstruction work on this car!
Indeed! Don’t worry, there will be plenty of that!!
Revelation came to me early in my restoration hobby. I was restoring a Capri that was much like your Aston; engine missing and chassis/floors too far gone to ever be back to 100% original spec. I was busy trying to replicate a pressed and folded panel at the base of the A-pillar. My neighbour who ran a bodyshop at the time said "Why are you wasting your time on details like that? It doesn't have to be that exact shape." He trimmed a bit of steel into a triangle and welded it in place in about 2 minutes, while I'd been faffing for a couple of hours. Primer, stonechip, wing and cill back on....never to be seen again.
If there was ever there a defintion of a glass half full chap. He's the one. Good luck.
Haha you have to be that way inclined with a car like this!
The algorithm brought a video of this DB. I seen the bracing, the perforated metal, the missing portions of “a” pillar and this intrigued me.
I spent 10 years bringing a rusty 280z back from a very rusty condition.
Subscribing and curious to see your journey.
It is quite the project! I’ve always love the 280Z. Similar fast back lines to the DBS.
Lots to come!
Thought this might be a z car from the thumb nail. Good luck with it mate
I guess nothing is really to far gone but the amount of time needed will be staggering.
Indeed, to restore it to original wouldn’t be sensible. But resto-mod will make it more achievable
IDK but the factory would have had parts bulk made on press tooling
but even in 1969 a guillotine, press brake, bead roller, English wheel, box & pan folder spot welder would have been used to construct this type of short run vehicle so not high tech but still needed to complete and a not small investment
So happy to see you "clean up" the car a bit...
It bugs me to death when people try to work on and around a dirty car...or attack it with a leaf blower??????
It also make things not look so bad (they are)
It’s always nicer to have a clean workspace and to know how much or how little you’re working with!
Very nice, just keep doing what your doing 👍👍👍😎😎😎
Thank you! Will do!
I watched your video on why you sold off the better one & I agree on your logic considering the financial cost/labor involved/profit margin & how it was not "the car" you really wanted. So having said that, why bother with this much worse car that`s basically the same make/model & will require even more work/labor/money & even less profit when it`s finished & still won`t be "the car" you want ?? I like you videos but am a bit confused. Good luck whatever you decide through.
This is the car I want. It is an early DBS. The other one was later and had the different front nose and lots of other styling bits.
The cost of buying and restoring this one will be less than what the other one sold for! I got this car for peanuts, so even just restoring the body would give me significant profit. But I won’t be selling it. I have no interest in buying one that is perfect, nor can I afford one! So this is perfect for me. When it’s done it will be more of a restomod - but with the styling I’ve always liked.
@@HudsonAutoFilms If it is going to be a restomod anyway maybe you could adapt your db5 front on it.
I have a scissor lift in my garage to service my Cobra
You have much more space than me ( single garage) - it’s worth the investment I assure you !
Absolutely! The main issue I have is limited power. But to upgrade to a system that powers the welder, lights and tools all at the same time will be expensive!
@@HudsonAutoFilms I get your point
I’m a tad older at 75 and find scooting about under the car on a wheeled mini stool a lot easier on the older muscles
Just upped the amperage in my domestic breaker circuit at home
Anyhoo good luck with the project
Good idea using the drill on the ball joint splitter.
Make life a bit easier!
Lovin this channel talented young man
Thank you! Very glad you’re enjoying, lots to come!
Brilliant!! 👍🏾
Thanks!
I wish you the best of luck with this project yet again! Its no easy task despite the fact they are of very simple construction as you say. I recall selling a very nice tidy V8 Aston some decades ago and the very fussy purchaser found a couple of niggles with the sills and demanded they were replaced by a coded welder with Aston experience, very very expensive but he must have liked the car...
Thanks for the support! I hate selling cars, especially classics - people seem to always want concourse for peanuts!
@@HudsonAutoFilms isn't that the truth!
@@HudsonAutoFilmsYup !!
Time fo4 a haircut mate …! 😂
Need to save money for welding wire
Realistically, you need at least 2 lads welding this at the same time to make any meaningful progress. So it’s definitely worth pursuing a skilled welder to throw at least a fortnight at this to job , to at help break the back of this project and give you some decent momentum.
Best of luck, well done.
I think you’re right. I’ve been looking into the right welder, but having some help will make a world of difference.
Thank you for your support!
Brilliant video, I've done a few restorations but nothing as major.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed. This is certainly on the bigger side of restorations I’ve taken on!
@@HudsonAutoFilms old cars bud, I started with a very tidy e type and when I'd finished cutting floors, sills, boot out there wasn't much left
Big job. Takes lots of know how and talent.
Indeed…will be quite the adventure
Really clever how that Issac guy worked out all of the bracing.Could imagine the chassis to be like a plastic sheet to move about as is of now.
Apart from the D-dion rear suspension it all seems like your average front engined ,rear wheel drive motor Vehicle .Makes one wonder why the expensive purchase of these marques . Suppose it is because of being hand built in construction.
I too get a kick of cleaning out rubbish and debris when taking on basket cases like this.
Hope you can remember where all the bits go back together.
I drew a frame idea up and I thought he would think I was mad (as it was quite vast), but then we just cracked on. He’s very skilled.
I think it’s the engines, the brand and the story that all feed into the values.
Cleaning up always makes me feel better! I’ve made sure to bag and label everything up!
We're did you find it? In the ocean?
I did actually

Make a rotisserie man. It is unbelievable how much difference it makes.

Thank you! That’s very kind
Lol... Too much work 😮😢
No such thing!

The Body ist completely rotten, but all nuts and bolts and the axles are built in high Aston Martin quality.
You’d be surprised how much of the body is solid. It’s all or nothing, but what’s left is very strong. So plenty to build off
I saw another one of those kit replica AM on marketplace in UK, white and half in bits
I saw that, he wants far too much for it!
The two British reg numbers on the wall are from Essex and Manchester one from 1985 and the other from 2001
Wow dude there is almost no car left but for the rust. Your rebuild is going to be an entirely new car.
The chassis will need a lot of new metal. But the aluminium body is safe and sound in storage!
Good luck with the car
Thank you!
@@HudsonAutoFilms as a engegireing student your video r pretty interesting to watch
Did Fred Flintstone own this one. Tough build, lets see how it goes!!!
He did actually!
Dam Bro. That look like it's been sitting in the ocean. Pretty Rough..I don't think it will ever be top Dollar car. Build it how you want. Change things around..put it back together and keep it for many years. Enjoy your ride..but i wouldnt be Concours ..make it a driver.. Good luck. Lots of panel work and welding. Yourkshire car restoration pretty good videos..if you need advice. Im sure they would advice. Good Luck.
I think it could be top cash if the original engine was back in. But that’s just not viable for my budget. But that’s why I like it, it will be something unique! Built to drive not just look at! Thanks for your support!
The job would be a bit easier if they put it on decent set of axle stands , the ones they have would lift it another 150mm .
If we had it higher, the jack wouldn’t have had enough travel to break it free. So that was the max height we could go. But honestly, even another 30cm wouldn’t have made life much easier, the access was so limited!
I`m 61, will I live long enough to see it finished ?
It will be done by the end of 2025…that’s my goal, more or less everything acquired to finish it. So I just have to get a lot of welding wire!
So you effectively need to live two more years..
@@philtucker1224 It will be a struggle but I`ll try .😁
That is one mega rebuild challenge
It is vast…
Think I’d ask a few other CZcamsrs who specialise in old supercar astons what would they do engine wise when the o.e mill is missin in action , do you go Chrysler hemi, modern v12 Aston , twin turbo LS possibly the cheapest bang for your buck .
There’s a much cheaper alternative which is mega powerful which is a m104 found in late 90’s E Class Mercedes which when turbo’d can make a 1000hp easy and zee Germans call them the German 2JZ 🇩🇪
I think I would like to keep it simple, so I can focus on driving it and not fixing it. As I’ll be tired of that by then! Perhaps LS, the trouble with Aston V12 is the size.
I find your videos really fascinating, but looking in the background on some shots didn’t you sell the other Aston? (I was gutted when you did but understood)
I did! This video took a couple of weeks to film, so when I started the car was still in the shed :)
@@HudsonAutoFilms ah I see. Cheers for coming back to me on that

That may well be true!

Indeed, but it hasn’t sold!
Are all the rotten/missing pieces available or will you buy second hands one or built them by your own ?
It will be a mixture. Lots of the main components are available (floors, sills etc) but there will lots of small sections that I will need to make on my own
I watch in awe...
It’s quite the challenge!
Ten more years of weather and if breathed on it too hard, car would be gone
Most likely!
