    I've been using the Purewick system for 2 years now. I am essentially bed bound due to multiple sclerosis for nearly 40 years. My biggest complaint is the cost of Purewick supplies. I've called Medicare many times in the last 2 years to see why they do not reimburse for this life-changing device. Medicare says that they cover ALL medical supplies that are medically necessary as ordered by a medical provider EXCEPT Purewick! I've tried calling agencies that advocate for disabled and seniors, but no one really helps. What can I do to change the minds of Medicare committees who make these decisions? I'm willing to call or write whomever has the power to really help me and countless other individuals regarding our needs in this area. Any suggestions would be great.

      I also got the same response. No one seems interested at all when it comes to elderly women.

    My questions what causes the pump to make an explosive noise when the catheter is positioned? Also what is the best way to allow the urine to pass thru the cable into the collection canister after the catheter has been placed. On the floor or suspended?

    its not the machine itself that is noisy when its running, its the dripping of the urine into the catch basin that can get noisy or loud - and in a family or visitation setting can be embarrassing to the user.

    4:49 power cord not plugged in. Yes, some units have batteries but this thing should have been making some kinda noise, The one we have does.

    I have just started using these with pts in the ED and when used properly...they are AMAZING! (TIP: for men with inverted penis', or VERY small anatomy they work well too)

    Can I sleep in my recliner using the purewick system? Last night was my first night using it and it did leak some but I don’t think it was because of the unit. I think I didn’t place it as securely as I should have. However, even if it only captures half of the urine I would be happy. Love this device but hope it holds up because it is really expensive. I’m going to be glad when the patent runs out so there’s some competition in pricing.

    Why is my hospital turning the suction to 125mmHg? The higher suction feels awful

    I noticed the Hospital uses double to triple the vacuum, Hospitals seem to work better than the one we have at home, where can I buy a better pump

    • @lorieatkins1788
      @lorieatkins1788 Před rokem +6

      Hospitals do not use the purewick suction machine. They connect the catheters to their "wall suction." The same suction they use for oral airway suction and N/G tubes. So, the suction apparatus they use is different than what you use at home. They can adjust the suction from low to medium to high suction.

      I agree the succion/vacuum on the purewick system is not strong as the obe in the hospital. Where can I buy a stronger motor/vacuumm

    • @pauljs75
      @pauljs75 Před rokem +5

      @@fabjackpal941 I'd say the core component of the suction apparatus is a glorified aquarium pump, but configured for drawing a vacuum instead of blowing air. It might be possible to find a diaphragm pump with a higher flow or vacuum draw rating. Those will be reliable, however in the case of the official unit it gets a 10X mark-up for being a medical device with all the QA it supposedly has.

      I have the Purewick system and it is LOUD. Maybe some of the machines are just loud and some are not. I wish mine was silent like the one in this video!
      Also I find that using a poise pad directly under the wick helps a lot because the wick doesn’t always absorb all the urine no matter how well it is placed, plus the suction is quite weak compared to the suction in hospital room units.

      I also use a pad under my wick and a chuck . My catheter is loud also and I successfully washed and reused my catheter ❤

    It seemed to work well in the hospital for my mother in law, but we bought the BD system when we brought her home and have not had any success at all at home. Her urine just seems to bypass the BD wicks completely. The most success we had in 2 weeks of use was 100cc one night. The noise level of the BD pump is almost zero and the pump will evacuate a glassful of water in about 10 seconds, so it’s obviously not the fault of the pump. We are mystified.

    Mine is really loud. I wonder if it’s because I got the back battery.

    • @mmthemouse1
      @mmthemouse1 Před 18 dny

      I have the battery pack and it is very quiet!! The only time there is noise is if the lid is not on tight, the tubing not on tight, or not in properly between the legs. You should also clean the lid of the machine. Rinse oit the urine that gets into the blue top portion. We do that everytime the cup is emptied.
