  • What a journey this has been from start to finish with this big block swap into Earl. From picking up CoachMA'AM and ripping out the 460, all the way to settling it into Earl. I'm glad to have this thing finally finished and ready to do some work and cruises.

    Seeing this makes me miss my 60 c20 Apache Stake bed truck. Cammed 235 with split manifolds and 4speed. 4.56 gears. Paid 900 cash for it and drove it 100 miles home runnin 45 mph crankin 4000 rpm 🤣 she was screamin in the slow lane. Sold it to a 80 yr old man who bought one new off the line. He passed rt before he got it painted. His Son supposed to send me pics when its done.

      It always one of those guys…..you come back a decade later and its still sitting there, now just lookin even more sorry than ever, but yet we always go askin, hoping they changed their minds or possibly its another family member and u just might get it for next to nuthin……never hurts to ask…their was an old k5 down the street that literally sat in a driveway for 30+ yrs……and one day it was just gone….i was thinking either the owner died, city towed it, or someone got one screaming deal…cause i tried off and on for the better part of 20+ yrs just to get a price on that thing and i never even got the i dont wanna sell it crazy price!!!……

    I did all kinds of things to my 66 fleetside short bed. I pulled the 240 like you did and put a warmed over 302 wih a C-4 and a towing shift kit. I pulled the panel in the dash and replaced it with a piece of quarter inch hard plastic. I moved the speedo to the right and put a tack on the left to get it off of the stearing collumb. I put the gages back on each side so it looked stock. I discovered Barry Grant Carbs. they work great and here in Alabama they are slightly cheaper than Holley and work great. This and other slight mods worked so well I put a 460 in my 77 F-100.
    If you build the one in Earl you will not believe the difference a Performer intake and BG Carb make. With this in mind, the biggest difference will come with a boost in Compression. 10:1 will transform Earl into a young beast. Throttle response becomes SNAPPY and fuel mileage goes Way up. Headman headers fit perfect in the 77 and make a difference. I ran 300 rear gears with a posi and 275x60x15 rears. on clean dry pavement kicking it gave me instant tire smoke from both tires until 3rd gear in the C-6 at 70 mph when it caught traction. Running a Mild Crane cam gave me 12 mpg loaded or empty, up hill or down. I loved that truck until my EX let it get away from her an wrecked it. Good Luck with Earl

    I really like the 460 option for this rig. Don't see a lot of them in many cars anymore. I remember when I was 1st getting into HotRodding and the like, I was maybe 14. My dad had a 76 Lincoln Continental with a 460 in it. My dream was to have that car when I was old enough to drive, Hot Rod it out with Big ole L60 15 tires on the back, put some headers and side pipes on it. Hot Rod Lincoln. Now every time I see a 460 in a vehicle, I think of Dad's Lincoln. He traded his cars in every 4 years, so in 1980, he got another Lincoln Continental, but that one had a 302 in it.

    If that is a factory Ford carburetor made by Holley, it has 61 jets for emissions. Install "63. Also, the factory choke cap requires ony 6 volts.it is only 600 CFM. But Ford had Holley build them with annular booster venturies for the primaries. Which are better for fuel atomization.

    • @VeteranIdiot
      @VeteranIdiot  Před 7 měsíci +1

      I ended up not hooking up the electric choke, but thats to good to know! I want to say that it has 55's in it now hahaha, I'm not going to put much into this carb as I will eventually put a holley sniper EFI kit on it. I spent a LONG time setting the idle air/fuel, due to how convenient (not at all actually) the needles are to adjust haha. So I kind of lost interest in making that carb better after that.
