I noticed that every character in the live action starts at the end of their character arc from the cartoon. None of them have the potential for growth.
Aang starts out aware of his responsibilities and fully invested in fulfilling them. Katara starts out as a well composed waterbending master. Sokka starts out as considerate and egalitarian. Zuko starts out willing to fight his father, and show open defiance. Those are the ENDPOINTS of their arcs from the cartoon!
Netflix is like a toxic ex who im wary of interacting with again
This video was the first one of yours that I've seen, but it was so heartening to me, cause it told me that you guys actually care about the narrative and plot, the quality of the writing itself, etc...
It gave me faith that your reactions will be interesting and engaging, and not just impressed noises or vague compliments.
One Piece works cause it made changes but left the Themes intact, the changes served the Story. Netflix ATLA fails cause it's changes ruined the Themes, the Story was made to serve their changes.
They said it in Netflix. Its a reimagining. Why reimagine? Is something wrong with original. By the way the martial art is off. There is a lot putting out there palm and (insert element) would just blast out. If you watch how Pakku "rode" an ice slide in his fight with Katara, he is like iceman with ice just blasting from his palm.
I like how you guys said how can these Netflix characters can be expected to be in the same story arcs as the ones in the original material when they do not have same qualities. Can you imagine Netflix Sokka humbling asking Master Piandao to teach him? How Katara's scene with the man who murdered her mom. What about Zuko's honor?
"They were pulling on heartstrings that if anybody ever stopped and thought about it said 'that doesn't make sense'" Truer words...
If you took your time you could riddle the whole plot with holes. Now I am ready to make excuses for shows that I like, trust me. But you would literally have to blindfold yourself in a basement painted with ventablack to make this work _if you wanted to_ . Scenes with heroic music and original lines that wouldn't make any situational sense anymore. Unearned character moments and straight up contradicting statements mere minutes apart like wtf...
Think Devon hit the nail on the head
The script and the weird character changes is what ruined it
Especially how they fucked up the main casts characters and not paying attention to what made avatar special it was all just good fighting scenes and no actually good plot
Just make it a stage play, at least I know what I'm in for
I want a musical.
I haven't watched the Netflix ATLA cause I always knew it will fall short the OG series
Hopefully they course correct in season 2. They squashed entirely too much into such a small episode count and skipped over things that added to the show
