Join Curator Stephanie Wood as she carefully unboxes a haute couture cocktail suit, hat and handbag designed by Gabrielle Chanel for her Spring/Summer 1965 collection. Made from a cloqué fabric, the suit jacket and dress are highly textured, giving the look a distinctive, sculptured quality.
Watch and listen as Stephanie shows us the detailing on the pieces, including buttons, labels, pockets and ribbons, whilst telling us about the original wearer of the suit - a very stylish woman named Antoinette.

Please, more videos with Stephanie Wood and the entire team involved in this video!! So good!!
More videos yes, but someone else doing the commentary.
I personally love the commentary!
@@itsjoannotjoann5070here voice was very calm and relaxing idk what you are talking about
I so enjoyed the Chanel exhibition
I didn't like the commentary either, great content, but I'm not a fan of vocal fry.
This is so cool, what a great way for the family to honour Antoinette's keen interest in fashion! Also, have to compliment the curator's dress too!
Love how the handbag is so simple and not Logo driven on the outside like today.
I wish there was a picture of Antoinette in it! That would be absolutely lovely to display next to this suit ❤
How kind of the family to donate this. Another fantastic V & A ASMR video, my absolute favourites.
This series just never misses 👏👏
She is brilliant! Her knowledge and effortless ASMR voice kept my attention and relaxed me sooo much. I’d love to see more textiles ASMR with Stephanie and that crinklyyyy paper 🥰🥰🥰
amazing outfit, very detailed account, lovely crinkly sounds.
I would’ve never thought about chanel and asmr together but these are heavenly
This video is absolute ASMR perfection! Thank you and great job!
Thank you very much. Fascinating. Would love to have learned a bit more about the quilting technique used to stitch the fabric. And to have seen the garment on a mannequin or even just a hanger to see how the undergarment looked 360 without the jacket, and then, seen the jacket hanging as well. To see the fabric handbag and how compact it was was amazing!
I was really hoping to see it on a mannequin! They probably didn't want to stress the stitching by having it hang, but it would have been really neat to see how the whole thing looked!
I love this video - her voice is perfect and the crinkly tissue paper is a delight! What a beautiful outfit and so well cared for too, an absolute treasure!
This video was so delightful and so informative! Please feature more vintage garments and couture in future videos!
I love the textile videos. I especially like the ones that involve cleaning them.
So enjoyable! I can’t explain why but the detail and care that Chanel put into her clothes and the way the presenter makes it palpable gives me a relaxed calm. I don’t know if it’s because it’s fabric but please more fashion related ASMR videos.
This video is both mesmerising and educational, and one of the best ASMR as such: the voice, the visuals, the soft sounds, the easy explanation that lets the brain relax and (literally) sleep. Left the video on loop with my headphones and slept for almost an hour. Well done!
Wow, ASMR talent spotted ... perfect voice, hand movements and the cherry on top another great informative piece of museum ASMR! ❤ Thx so much!
I LOVE the last chapter/end part!
What a beautiful suit.
I love these videos. So cool. I feel intrigued, informed and relaxed all at once.
I love these videos! You have the relaxing ASMR and you learn things!
I love the attention we as woman will always give functioning pockets 👏👏
What a beautiful ensemble ❤
A true gift for the holidays! Thank you, V&A, these are a delight!❣️
Uhhh I loved this!!! The sounds were amazing but the story behind everything was just top tier 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Please keep them coming!
Stunning! Thank you for sharing this amazing item!
This was a pleasure to watch, thank you 🙏🏻
These videos are so, so pleasing to watch! The asmr is an added bonus.
Relaxing and fascinating! Great video, would love to see more of these.
I enjoyed the close up shots of the suit's details but a view of the full suit laid out perhaps with a view the jacket laid next to the dress would be nice.
I agree with you, because the dress was made in such a way to give the impression of a blouse and skirt. Also the blue "waistband" was strategically placed just below the waist to elongate the torso and make the skirt look like it sits snug on the body.
CZcams recommendation.
I don't care about high end brands but the quality and information is very good here. Lovely enjoyable, informative video.
Amazing video! Thanks V&A
Does Stephanie have any other
Videos? I love her voice, cadence, and hand movements. Also this type of educational ASMR is quickly becoming my fave.
Steph's the pro on Mary Quant raincoats too!: czcams.com/video/buhFLCzKLoU/video.htmlsi=nDjpTjGFQs14KfhJ
Absolutely loved the video! This series is a treat; very informative and interesting to listen to. The crinkling of the paper in this video was heaven.
I have to say, I not only loved the suit, but also the curator's dress 😊
It was amazing to see thee tiny hand stitches along the edge of the seams in the back of the blouse.... beautiful ❤
Would love more of theses videos!!!
Aaaah! If only...😍 What a beautiful suit.
Absolutely wonderful!
This is incredible!!!
What an amazing job you have, I'm very envious
Thank you, very informative, have enjoyed the Chanel exhibition, would love an exhibition on embroidery and embellishments.
This video was wonderful!
This sent me to heaven-thank you!
How was the cloqué fabric made? Was it hand quilted? Amazing outfit.
Probably machine made. Still very intricate and expensive though. Late fifties and into the sixties there were many new novelty textured fabrics proposed by suppliers, and many designers like Balenciaga, Givenchy etc embraced them.
Very fascinating and very relaxing 😊
Phenomenal stuff
Beautifully done
Beautiful suit, very nice presentation.
Fantastic video.
Well done. Thank you. 🙌🏽👌🏽✨
Great video!
Wonderful ❤
❤so beautiful and relaxing
Nice of the relatives to have made that donation.
LOVED this one ❤
Seriously...is it really necessary to criticize this presenters voice? She gave a lovely tutorial. Everyone has feelings.Be kind.
Beautiful ❤
Great video
Always nicely presented. However, they never truly highlight the art and craftsmanship of Haute Couture 😢. It would be great to see close ups of the inner construction such as the front and back sides of the bound button holes, seam finishes, the gilded chain and how it’s applied, etc. These details are extremely important to understanding how couture garments are made and what makes them sew 😊 unique.
Most ppl will never have the opportunity to examine such a garment in detail and these lovely videos should be used as part of the documentation that adds to its history. Beautiful to look it, but let’s turn them inside out and give the respect that is due to the craftspeople who collaborated in making and designing of these garments. After all, they are the real talent 💁♂️.
they did more of that in their previous Chanel couture video posted recently check it out
Yes that would be great. There is lots of handwork on these garments. Hand sewn zips, hidden press studs to keep everything in place, hand made buttonholes etc etc
The video is more ASMR oriented, that’s why, it’s not meant to keep your attention but to let your brain rest, they have more elaborated ones, ASMR videos are like a nice soft snack, instead of a rich main course 🙂
@@onoh791 I’ll take the main course every time 💁♂️
@@Faeriehood And that’s ok, but the ASMR series are just snacks, check the V&A main channel, it has wonderful informative videos much more elaborated 👍
More asmr with whispering 🎉 these are awesome
Excellent
History asmr just hits different
OMG! The beauty and the exquisite care... sigh
Have so much respect and admiration for Coco Chanel, her couture, her life. On my bucket list is to own a Chanel suit, hat and handbag. A lady is allowed to dream.😊
Well I get she was a creative designer but to go so far as saying you respect her is pushing it. She was a Nazi collaborator. Can’t respect that.
More of this series please! Also the owner must have been meticulous, the lining of that hat and the suit itself pristine??!! 😮😮😮I can barely wear a white top to work without incident 😅
very good! 👒👜
I just want to know who pitched this series to the board so I ca shake their hand. I wish I could have seen the expressions on the faces of the older board members (so all of them probably lol) when ASMR was explained to them.
Very interesting, I missed an explanation on the buttonholes
Beautiful. Did the handbag come with a double-sided mirror, I wonder?
Tingles.
she had an unique sewing
Not a fashionista in any way, but really enjoyed this video-Thank you!
I love this lady's glasses. I'd love to know where she got them
wow! amzaing . godspeed~
How much would those items originally have cost ?
Bravo 👁️ bravísimo
Bellisima❤
Totally off topic, but Stephanie, l love your dress! Can you please tell me where it’s from?
I would worry that rings might snag the fabric. Very surprised she didn’t remove them.
They sometimes did!
merry christmas to me!
Vocal fryyyyyyeeeee!
Was there a shirt with a bow too? Was it attached to the skirt like a dress?
It was interesting to see a dress make to look like a skirt and blouse. I'd love to see how they joined the two very different fabrics at the waistline.
Yes
What does Chanel do with leftover accessories (like buttons) or fabrics? Is there an archive of that information for future repair needs?
Yes, I heard they did this. You just need to contact the headquarters or store and they will see if they have any extras. I think they may also repair
😮
👏 ❤
Yeees
Is the blouse attached to the skirt?
Yes, like a dress.
never clicked so fast in my life
How are the garments cleaned please?🐨🇦🇺🦘
Very professional dry cleaning. Perhaps buttons and chain will be removed and sewn back on afterwards.
I really love everything about this! What an awesome series. However one piece of constructive feedback is that I recommend the narrator speak a little softer. She has a natural gravel to her voice which is lovely but can be a bit harsh while wearing headphones. I think slightly lower voice volume and slightly slower cadence would heighten the impact of the asmr effect and increase viewership among people seeking those effects, while still being interesting and not “too weird” for people just interested in the content the way a full whispering video might be.
Yes, I agree completely. I watch loads of ASMR (eg. Gentle Whisping/ Moonlight Cottage), and the gravelly voice would never be there).
I disagree completely. This video is a perfect asmr trigger for me so please don't change anything
I'm disappointed that the blouse was not really shown.
We need clown suit cleaning lady back please
I thought this was Anna Delvey at first😭😂
I would love to know how much the lady paid for it.
The price for an haute couture outfit is about that of a car. An embroidered lavish gown will cost about the price of a super luxury car. In the 50ies a Dior haute couture suit was about £500.
@@nikolaskoulountis6200 Thank you for this information. £500 would have been a lot of money then, but oh how cheap it sounds now!
There would have been matching shoes
I'm not sure if anyone has said this before but you look quite like Anna delvey!
beautifully made video. Stephanie has quite a gruff voice for such a young woman. She is very good at her job though :)
trying not to sound creepy internet guy but feel the need that the grace of the suit is perfectly matched by the grace of those hands
It just needs a good iron to get all those wrinkles out of it. ;-)
I enjoyed this video/ Interesting. A glimpse into the past.
Clothes from 1965 are really that rare?
It’s couture Chanel. The date being more recent doesn’t mean it’s not worth preserving.
@@amyfrosty The fashion industry is a bunch of comically pretentious nonsense.
