I’m a moderate country music fan but this 2:29 song makes me a huge fan of it. The lyrics really put you right in it.
Jamey Johnson 1 singer in American 🇺🇸
When my oldest son was in the service I told him I would take care of getting the marker he ordered for his dad to arrive and be placed at the cemetery when I went by to see it after they placed it I let my car run and my car door was open and I am a true country girl so remember when came on the radio and I cried my eyes out over hearing this song and thinking about all the things we went through!! Music has a way of taking us back and can create a lot of memories 😊
Memorial Day is today. Remember
Probably one of the best country songs ever written. Amazing lyrics
With out a doubt. It’s the only song that gives me chills every time I listen to it.
Great last name!
I dont like country music but this is amazing. The first time I heard it I stopped dead in my tracks just to listen and take it all in. It's one of those rare songs that you wished would never end.
My dad a WW2 vet died in 08 and my wife put together a picture video and used In Color for the first song. The old B&W photos fit in with the song so well. Dad even had an army buddy named McGee. The first color pic was of their wedding and the flowers were red. I tear up ever time I hear this song.
Amen brother
@@jimmysmith4645 AMEN
His service is greatly appreciated. Still today...amazing amazing song.
I did the same for my Daddy in 2009. It was the most beautiful tribute to him. There were many tears in that chapel. Jamey Johnson you are amazing with this song.
Thanking your Father for his service!
I still remember asking and talking to Daddy about when He was little and growing up in the Great Depression( Daddy was born 1925 ) . .. He said He quit school in the 2nd grade to help his daddy farm and He had no shoes 😢💔💔💔. Said He would dig his feet up in dirt find a cool spot for his feet . I always remember that and then and there I decided I would Always Work hard and make something. I hope Daddy is Proud of Me .
Grandpa worked digging for like 10 cents a day and then moved the family to Laguna Beach...it all turned out well in the end.
@@chriscook1249 what about that ... , ♥️♥️♥️♥️!! I remember My Daddy telling Me how He would plow fields and work all day for a dime ,& glad to get it . Many nowadays would even know a hard days work ! I sure do ;) ... We grew up hard but had more than most could buy and that’s LOVE ❤️. I wouldn’t trade any childhood for any amount of money .
Thank God for the brave and women of the greatest country in earth. USA
I dedicate this song to my grandfather and his brothers that stormed the blood-stained beaches of Normandy! I'm thankful we didn't have to see it in color! For those that did could never forget and my grandfather never forgot it in his 91 years!!!
if your grandfather is only 91 then he in fact, did not storm the beaches at normandy, he is korean war vet age.
My uncle was with E Company 16th infantry 1st Division. He was in the first wave to hit Omaha Beach. He saw action from Africa, Sicily, France and finally Germany. About a week before Germany surrendered he and many others who had seen as much action as him were given 30 days Liberty passes. He decided to go to Paris with some other guys in his outfit. He was in Paris when Germany surrendered. He said it was a three day long celebration. He had pictures from those days and it did indeed look like a fantastic time. After liberty he they were making plans to begin training for the possible invasion of Japan which obviously never happened. He was discharged in early December of 1945 and made it back home About a month later. The most amazing thing is that with all of the action he saw he never got as much as a scratch. He struggled with what we now would call survivors guilt and PTSD. He drank heavily throughout his life after the war but was able to hold a good job and provided well for his family. He passed away from a heart attack in 1988. I wish I knew how valuable his experience was when I was younger. I wish I would have had the sense to thank him for what he did over there. RIP Uncle Fred.
@@joshuariddle4420 use your context clues… never forgot it in his 91 years, not hasn’t forgotten it in his 91 years… his grandpa lived to 91
Brings tears to my eyes every time
I listen.
Love this song still in 2024
This song is the soul of our family southern bell ! Thanks Brother !!
My son and daughter in law had this song as their first dance at their wedding.❤️
This right here was my bestie cousin JoJo was her favorite. ❤ Now I enjoy the words snd music... RIP jojo. Great song 🎼🎄🎵🎶✔️💜☮️
Bless those that served and their families that endured!! Army Brats all the way!
A fine tribute to our Greatest Generation, we sure could use them today.
No manner how many times i have listened to this song it still gives me chills.
Thank you Mr Johnson
Just a man, his guitar and legendary voice. Nothing else is needed.
Jamie, do you know how good you really are? I cry every time i hear this song. And im a 72 yr old navy vet. Thank you.
I'm old school country ,this young man kills it ,song goes to my soul !! So beautiful !!
Well said, the man has it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is the quintessential country song about trying to stay alive during the toughest of times. Praise God for Johnny McGee the tail gunner and all of those tail gunners who never came home.
It does not get any better. This man can write any thing you can imagine
Amen God bless America I'm a navy veteran Vietnam era served on the USS Vesole DD 878 1972 to 1975 bless America and Veteran's.
One of Johnsons greatest songs!!! Thanks to all you veterans!!! God bless the U.S.A the greatest on earth!!!
My Mother used to tell me this song reminder her of my brother and I. We are both Army combat veterans, trained together and fought in Iraq together. I think the second verse is why she felt that way about the song. She passed away November 18, 2019 and we played it at her funeral. Now I still tear up when I hear it. Thank you so much for this performance. Amazing.
What a musician and story teller. My favorite. No contest.
Man….if this doesn’t hit you in the feels…nothing will. Nuff said.
Zero ‘down-thumbs’ two years later... Well done. Thank you @jameyjohnson.
This song brings tears to my eyes everytime I hear it. My grandfather's fought in WW2 and I have seen plenty of Black and white pictures of them and my grandmother's. They definitely lived a different life than any of us have and anyone who doesn't realize the sacrifices they made so that we can all live the way we do now, doesn't know a damn thing about this country!!
My grandfather and great uncle both served my great uncle was killed in action in April of 1945
Same here, brother.
No need in doctoring up his voice. Man , guitar , and some real pure talent. One of the greatest
If you don’t like this song. Please just go home.
Jamey Johnson's voice is legendary right up there between Jennings and Jones
And don't forget Mearl
Really? Think about that? Seriously?
Yeah, Just like he says, Somewhere between Jennings and Jones....
Look at the signatures on that guitar that speaks for itself.
Agree
This is my great grandpa's favorite song! He passed away when I was 5 from lung cancer...I MISS HIM SO MUCH!!!!We had our own little handshake and everything. When I woke up in the morning I went to his room and we would eat eggs and bacon together. This song reminds me of him that's why I cry during it.
My brother. As an 82nd Airborne medix
This song is a trigger, I cry, I give remembrance I pour a sip and I give love. Thank you my frien for expressing what I can’t articulate in words. Much love. Much respect. God bless my brothers and sisters and thank you and your families for the service and sacrifice
Best song I’ve ever heard.
All the legends of country would be proud of this young buck🦌🤙
One of the best songs of the last ten years. True American poetry.
You heard of My Old Kentucky Home song this song should be my old US of A song. Always remember your veterans.
And what a life that would have been. Can't think of anything more significant. What a song.
Gives me goosebumps every single time I hear it! He pulls you in and sings to your soul!!!!
Another example of why Jamey Johnson has become such a popular songwriter/performer 😊😊😊😊
As God is my witness I wish I could give this song 1 Thousand likes. Jamey Johnson is blessed with a voice that can make a dead man weep.
Couldn't agree with you more. Your name says it all. I can relate.
Bless you 🙏 Always pray ✝️
Amen
Coming from someone who despises country music I can't help but agree
And us that are alive and respect our roots and family
This has to be in the top 10 greatest songs ever recorded.
There is a whole lot of talent right there on that stage. No fireworks or dancers required! Just heart! One of the very few (very few) left
Along with Chris Stapleton, Eric Church, Sturgill Simpson, Cody Jinks and more out there that need to be discovered
Country music coming back i hope
Do yourself a favor and check out Tyler Childers.
got to agree there aren't many left. George Jones said who's going to fill there shoes.
Go Jamey!
Whoever gave thumbs down to this song has no taste and probably likes mumble rap. This song hits anyone who has grandparents and respects their elders and their stories. If this song doesn’t touch you in any way shape or form. You have issues for sure. Great song and I’m not much a Fan of
Country but this song is pretty amazing
My grandson hit me up on this song. Alone and a few brown bottles. I dare you to think of your family that's left you and listen to this song
Thank you God and Jesus Christ for you bringing light to my life.
This is proof that the music industry is corrupt. Talent like this go unnoticed, really......
I think everyone notices this guy, he's been in the industry for 30 years
I Think everyone should listen to this every morning before taking on there day. Being grateful for what we have and where we been... While we are still living in colour ... Best Songwriter in my eyes
Jamey, you sir are one of the best performers that ive ever heard. And ive heard a lot the best. It hits me in my soul. Thank you young man. BTW Im 72.
❤ What u helped me through. I'm a vet that is still struggling. Everytime I hear your music u ground me . TY PLUS iv tuned so many systems in my trucks
Magnificent song. Beautifully performed.
One of the best voices to ever exist in the world of country music!
Him and Chris stapleton are head and shoulders above everyone else
With every loved one I've lost along the way, this song got a little harder to listen to...now that they're all gone, I can't make it through this song without a tear in my eye.
This song conjures up so many different emotions and memories. Simply a masterpiece of a song, ashamed more people haven't heard it. I am 57 and still fortunate that my Grandfather is still alive, he's 96 and was born in Two-Dot Montana, fought in World War 2 in Saipan still lives in Montana. Obviously this song makes me think of him and my Grandmother who passed 23 years ago. Very special song
This Marine is a national treasure! He sings from the heart about things that we can all relate to.
As long as there are singers that do that, then America music will survive!
Phil Smith for a start, you could try googling it.
Couldn't agree more my friend
@@philsmith2489 I didn’t see where he mentioned you in the first place 😎
Wow. I’m a grown arse man and I’m on the verge of tears. That 4:24m is magic, thank you. There’s a lot you American lot have done to f*ck up this world. This here is not one of them. Chapeau
It is my grandfathers story ,,made me tear up real good, anyone who would give this song a thumb down has to be an idiot, ,,you see I am of Ralph Stanley's family
,,My great uncle Ralph,,Uncle Ralph kept up with the extended family ,,my mother was born a Stanley name my father was of the Jordan's ,,,,,,,,,Nathan Stanley probably wouldn't have time for me I bet.
This song is for are soldiers that gave there life so we could have one.
This live version Never gets old. Can listen to it over and over.
Old Maple sounds perfect. And every note Jamey hits is spot on
Beautiful so beautiful, I miss them so much family is gone , I feel so alone now ❤ Joi Haynes , the days I won’t get back my family 😢💜
Sing it in the middle of America....we need u!!
This song is incredible! My memories of past family members run crazy in my head.....damn the tears!!! I also just love his voice, could listen to it all day!
It’s a special kind of talent to silence a crowd like Farm Aid. Right On Jamey!
My sister came to visit when our dad was really ill. She's not my blood in any way, but my granny raised her. My granny was the drop off of POS that didn't want their kids. Any way, we were going through old photos and, well,,,this is our conversation, both hers and mine.
This is the best version across the board
One of THE MOST BEAUTIFUL SONGS EVER COMPOSED
Best country song ever recorded.
I play this song endlessly...
Thank you heroes from the USA.!
You liberated us from the Nazis.
We love you and your beautiful country forever.
Kind regards from the Netherlands/Europe.
My son and I just connected on guitar for the first time, with this song. I've always loved it and considering that my father was 101st Airborne during WW2, this song means even more to me now. A huge shout out to all of our Veterans. Thank you for keeping the wolves away from our doors.
One of the most underrated singer / songwriter!!! Love this guy's music!!!
You got that right!! One of the best songs ever written....and that voice is amazing!!
I was in A Company 5th Battalion 7th Calvary 1st Calvary Division 20 miles from the DMZand 20 miles from the Laos border in January 1968 20 years old . When the offense started we went out with a Company and came back with a platoon in a month and half. That is why we call it a brotherhood. Jamey Johnson song Color resonates with us. Spin Hrabik

Me too and wish the girl gets a hair cut l mean man . sorry I thought he was a girl with a man voice
Amen Brother
Amen true Americans , this should be top comment
Wish I'd had all my Grandmothers photos. SHE WAS what he's singing about. First of the Female Marines. I disappointed her to her grave. :(:(:( A "friend" wanted to show up in a Rolls Royce. She wasn't impressed by a Cadillac. People of that era, weren't. I fought, to give her the burial she wanted. She knows.

Jamey Johnson is the perfect representative of Alabama. We are sentimental patriots, old souls, and heartfelt musicians of all races. People knock AL but people like Jamey are all over our state.
So true
Zach Rollins You are correct, lived all over the world but my homes in ALABAMA!!!!!!
Don't forget about mr. wilson pickett....mustang sally. Sooooo many greats come from Alabama, The Beautiful. ✌️👌🙃❤️🎶 War Damn Eagle 😉
I live in Colorado, every year I wish I were somewhere a little more....... Red, like Alabama.
@@lifebythehorns You guys still have a chance, no doubt. AL will be the last to go, but we too shall fall, in one way or another. Find a nice small town that's unaffected by state and federal politics, then don't tell anyone. Just quietly live out your life. There are too many people, and not too many people are intelligent or creative, so all you can do is go where there are less people to find some peace.
That's a guy who still knows what country music is!!!!
Livin The Spiritual War oF Faith and Diung What Is Right This music Is OF God and For God's People. Praise The Lord and Thank Him For The Strength To Endure For The Good Of His Holy Name! PRAISE JESUS THE COMING ETERNAL SAVING KING!!!
Jamey Johnson deserves a Medal for that presentation. I always tried to learn how to get a job I do work when I can, but he took me back to a horrible night where all I had was a memory of my Sister. I'm alive today cause of the girl. I Love My Big Sis
He's a Marine just like me and thank you for your service

I met my wifes uncle Herbert to talk about her family. The most memorable thing he said to me was. "We were so poor we didn't even know there was a depression" No generation since has a clue.
My oldest brother had my back till last week when he died. I will greatly miss you.
The one and only performing Country Music today!!! He's never sold out to the Pop music like all the rest! He's a jewel in a sea of grey!!! God Bless Jamey Johnson!!!
One time in Illinois back in the early eighties, I ventured down the State to my friends Dads farm. We were out banging gears in an old GTO when I made a nasty comment about the farmers not leaving tree lines along the roads. He said to me; "Don't bad mouth the farmer with yer mouth full!" It stuck til this day and beyond! YAH Bless the Farmer!
One of the best songs ever. Always brings a tear to my eye. Such heart and song poured into every note.
Powerful, powerful, beautiful song.
Kids out there...you can rap, shake your ass, tattoo your whole body.. but this is what TRUE passion and real talent is.
this boy dont fake his accent.......... this one is REAL..... oh oh oh... the REAL south.
Think about how many people feel the way this guy's does and then think about how many of these rich men we are talking about. We could win this if we all stand together
I lost my grandpa last month. Wish he was still here to tell me about all the black and white pictures.
Jamey's voice is priceless. I love listening to his music
Smiles, same here Dawn, feels really great listening, how are you doing? 🌺 😊
This Marine put in song exactly who and what America’s “Greatest Generation” was, and how we should all look back at them with love, appreciation and the utmost respect.
Damn I’ve listened to this song several times… only now I understand it .
Jamey Johnson is the man!! Can’t really see him under all that hair, but you can still see his beautiful eyes and hear his great voice and talent. He’s keeping it country… Just love it 💕🇺🇸
