    Buy the fuel side VRO rebuild kit on Amazon: amzn.to/2B6f7Pb
    Using a rebuild kit I purchased from Master Tech Marine (Bill) I rebuild my VRO fuel pump. www.maxrules.co...
    I just kind of slap things together in this video, but I recommend taking your time because you want the gasket inside to line up properly. If it isn't lined up you will have the same problem as before.
    Feel free to add any suggestions to this video in the comments area. I'm no pro and don't claim to be. I'm just some guy who doesn't like to pay maintenance charges.

    Great vid! Proper maintenance of the VRO makes more sense than removing or disabling the VRO.

    The blue o ring goes on the fuel piston and I always use 2 stroke oil to Lube everything

    The little O ring goes on the oil pump piston

  • @thediplomasta5891

    Turns out it was an air leak on the suction side of fuel line. That, makes the oil side of vro pulse more, and causes over-oiling. Which is visually apparent in the exhaust.
    Poor VRO, always gets the blame.
    I'm guilty too. 😔
    Vro Rebuild kits online for $20!
    Don't pay the $300 for one.

      The $20 one may last a day, or if you're lucky, one season. I agree $200 is absolutely ridiculous, but you get what you pay for. I was also able to find it for around $160

    The small blue o ring goes on the fuel piston.

    • @cfauvel
      @cfauvel Před 7 lety +2

      that little blue o-ring is NOT the oil piston o-ring it is the o-ring for the counter reset pin...it prevents fuel/oil mix from dripping down between the oil chamber and fuel pump section.

  • @ct1762
    @ct1762 Před 3 lety +4

    i know this is old but just to be clear : DO NOT REMOVE THE OIL MIXING UNIT! you cant service it, which is why the 0-rings aren't in the kit! unless it's leaking, in which case you will need the 2 new 0 rings! or, since the video guy took it apart, now he needs new 0-rings because it surely will leak now. so again: only the FUEL PUMP side is serviceable.

    • @threecarg
      @threecarg Před 3 lety

      Oh no. I took mine apart in order to remove the pump without removing the oil line.. dang wish I hadn’t done that. Are the O rings special or just a matter of finding similar size. Recommendation?

      Can you explain where and what is the oil mixing unit? You mean the side with white plastic diaphragm? Is there 2 o-rings?

    hey jim, i have a 80's evinrude 40 horse with a jet, it does run but its running out of fuel unless i pump the bulb or have the tank gravity feed the motor. wondering if u have an idea if that means the vro isnt working? soon as the tank is set back on the bottim of the boat it only takes a min or two before it run out of fuel unless tou pump the bulb.

    • @ct1762
      @ct1762 Před 3 lety

      @@markwilliam2876 clearly the fuel pump side of his VRO/OMS pump got damaged. it needs a new diaphragm.

    I just baught a 140 VRO and the VRO pump was disabled and unplugged. Do you know how I can test it and probably re-instate it? Great video!

      You can hook a clear hose to the oil input and start the motor with some oil in the hose...search the Internet for the process. You should be able to find a post that tells how much the oil level should drop per minute or so. Also, there is a clicking sound to listen for that the pump makes if it is pumping oil. You should premix the fuel also to ensure the engine is getting oil just in case the pump isn't working.

      @MusherDeeds Před 10 lety

      Thanks for the reply. I will search and possibly give it a try... I do see a lot of posts about people disabling the VRO altogether to prevent a blown power head... Thanks again!

    My 2000 115 johnson is having an issue it won't idle longer then 2 minutes, I have to pump the bulb to keep it going. I believe ita the fuel pump, I wanted to know if rebuilding your vro fixed the problem and the price for the rebuild kit. Thanks for your video.

      Did you ever find out your issue?

    • @JimWellman
      @JimWellman  Před 8 lety

      +Brama B I rebuilt mine because one of my diaphragms was cracked badly, but after the rebuild it worked great for a few weeks. A few weeks later though it started giving me issues again so I bypassed the VRO all together. It worked great like that for a while, but I later decided to get up off of my wallet and purchase a brand new one. It has been running great ever since.

    was the motor stuttering a lot that's why you replace the fuel pump?
    same exact motor in it is stuttering a lot.

      The engine would idle fine, but while running it would eventually die, unless I kept pumping the bulb.
