Now i can sleep without anything on top except for my clothes obviously..

This is where I'm going to start. My mental health is suffering so bad, and my apartment looks like a depressed person lives here. Dishes look like science experiments, half empty cups of drinks. Maybe waking up and falling asleep in a clean bedroom will help me get motivated to clean other rooms. Your videos never disappoint.

Hey Cass, I came back to this video to tell you how this mindset shift has drastically improved my home life! Honestly, I thought it was crazy - clean your room first? Ridiculous lol. But I feel like I've tried so many things to get control of my home, & they haven't worked, so might as well try this. In the last few weeks, I've kept my room clean & have noticed a lot of changes. I wasn't mad or frustrated with the mess in my house & having to clean up after others; I would clean with no negative thoughts. I was more relaxed at bedtime. Guess what? My husband noticed my change, and has been cleaning without me asking!! My kids don't fight back when I ask them to do something! My whole household has stepped up to support what I want, so I don't have to nag. It feels like we are a team now, instead of me doing it all on my own. Thank you from the bottom of my heart! I've never felt better or been happier :)

You are so right! I redid a bedroom in my home recently for myself and it is the most put together, orderly room in the house. It feels like a sanctuary for me. I always catch a family member (we are 6) standing at the doorway to my room admiring it...I always say, "don't be jealous!"...Lol I make my bed right away after getting up in the mornings and hang my pj's on a hook in the closet specifically attached for that purpose btw. The KEY is to have a place for everything and everything in its place and keep your surfaces decluttered. Think about what you want in your room and plan accordingly. I sometimes stand at the doorway to admire it also, it motivates me to want the rest of my home looking as put together as my bedroom. This is the first time I have been able to finish a room exactly the way I wanted and it feels like such a great accomplishment...it feels great being in that room. It will be easier to do the rest of the house as my family now can see what I am trying to accomplish with the rest of the house. On to another room!
Side note: I did this in stages starting the day after Memorial Day...it took me about six weeks to finish. I do go through days of feeling very sad and depressed, but I fight through it trying to keep busy and doing something I look forward to. Having this room done the way I wanted it, with my stuff, helps me to feel like taking better care of myself, like I need to keep doing good things for myself...I matter too. Do something good for yourself!

I really needed this. I'm lucky enough to be living in the prettiest, nicest house I've ever lived in. I find it hard to keep up. 6 months since moving in, I'm still not unpacked completely. (the boxes of stuff are filling the garage). I'm trying to get out of
this rut. I appreciate this information and the visuals very much.

I think it took me almost a year to completely unpack the kitchen! It can be overwhelming. And, just like with everything else it helps to start small. Empty only one box. And if that’s too much, open only one box and look inside! Or, I just sit and look at the (mess, boxes, laundry), for 2 minutes. If I’m motivated to do more, great! If not at least I focused on it for 2 minutes.☺️

I'm with you on the blanket, and it's perfectly logical. I don't believe in ghosts per se, but I grew up in a house where weird stuff would just happen. It is a known fact that a substantial blanket is your best weapon when deploying the "if I can't see them, they can't see me" defense maneuver. And if I get hot, then I just send the piggies to the air conditioned mall and wish them the best of luck. I see no flaw in this logic.

A comment on your “crazy question” at the end. You are definitely not the only one. I like it cold in my room so I can have heavy blankets over me. So, I don’t know how I missed this before, but less than a year ago, I decided to try a weighted blanket. After one night I was telling people, “whatever your problem is, the solution is a weighted blanket.” I live alone so this was just for me. I have a standard full size mattress. I bought a 20lb weighted blanket. I cannot stop marveling at the way it has changed my entire sleeping experience! If it is covering me from my feet to my chin, I believe I can feel no pain. If it’s all in my head, that’s fine with me, it works. Also, I feel very secure with it. I don’t toss and turn. And, I’m sure no monster could possibly get through it. You described your sleep issue as if you were describing mine, so I just wanted to throw in my two cents. I say it’s a magic blanket. (I’ve named it Morpheus-😂) Just something to think about.

This video is just what I needed. I recently cleaned up the bedroom because allergies and crazy tissues all under the bed and in drawers and everything. So I took some time, put extra stuff in drawers and dusted and vacuumed and honestly when I wake up I look at the clean floor and I'm happy. Like this is what I needed. And it has slowly trickled into the house. I am keeping the kitchen a little cleaner and the laundry room a little cleaner. And the living room a little cleaner. It's true and it works!
Also, I totally can't sleep without a blanket too. And I can't even stick any body part out from under it because I'm that scared. For me it was mice or rats. I was always afraid they would eat my toes and I was teased about it which made it worse.
Side note.. I don't like to look out windows because I'm afraid of seeing a t-rex looking in at me. Yup. True story.

When you mentioned the trash can in the bedroom again, it reminded me of a previous video where your husband grew up with that as a "no." My mom always told me that dirty laundry doesn't belong in the bedroom so she wouldn't give me a hamper. I would always have dirty laundry on my floor, instead, waiting for me to bring it downstairs to the laundry area. It makes more sense to have at least a small hamper. She also stored all the cleaning supplies hidden away in one cupboard. Now as an adult, I put paper towels and cleaner everywhere I will use them (kitchen, bathroom and mudroom). It makes clean-up much more prompt and I feel less cranky about cleaning up pet messes because it is easy. Mindset is huge and it helps to let go of the prescriptive "shoulds" and set us up for success.
Also, my brain tells me the same about bed safety Cass. Hahah. I can't have a leg or arm hang over the bed because a man with an ax is under my bed ready to chop it. Not sure what childhood event pressed that into my brain. I feel so much safer with my blanket, and I have no AC so I have just have a fan. 😅

Cas, I'm writing from my husband's profile, but I just want to say I appreciate you so much. This video really changed my mindset. I hate about 95% of my bedroom. Our bed frame, mattress, side tables, and dresser are five years old purchased off FB Marketplace...the bed frame is completely broken, and the mattress does nothing but give me insane back pain, causing me to toss and turn all night and wake up with a ridonkulously sore back. Our sheets are worn, the pillows are from our wedding thirteen years ago, and the duvet has all of the batting bunched up in all the weird places. We have so much stuff stored in here that laughs at me as I go to sleep, causes me nightmares, and "greets" me every morning when I wake up. My husband's office space is in here...along with tons of extra hardware that doesn't get used but sits on the floor and gathers dust. I HATE BEING IN HERE! I always focus on the rest of the house, so this gives me permission to really sit down and think how I can rework and reset my bedroom to get a completely new me. Thank you!

Clutter in the bedroom makes for a busy mind for me, less quality sleep.
Investing in quality sheets really does make a difference. I prefer cotton sheets, especially for summer. The are crisp and breathable. I don't like microfiber, it's polyester, and polyester doesn't breath (making you sweat). The sheets you recommend a few months back, are great quality!

I have to admit..at first i didn't agree with this approach. I've ALWAYS focussed on the main areas first. But when i heard you this time, Cass, I happened to be sitting on my bed and looking around my room. Not BAD, but not as peaceful as I needed.
I got right to it and I am so much happier with my room now==totally worth the effort. Thank you for your gentle nudges.

I feel safe with a sheet in super hot weather as long as I wrap it so tight it mimics that "heavy" feel. It's like my happy cocoon.
Thank you for your realistic suggestions for organizing!

  • @familyhistory-jennings836

Thank you Cas! This was exactly what I needed today.
I went straight to my room and followed your DREAM plan. I am a huge fan and enjoy your videos. 👍

Totally get the blanket thing. I have arachnoid phobia and my brothers also used to rig my bed with tape-recorders and pranks and things on strings to terrorize me. I’m a mess. So…I loved this and I get it! You make my day. Thanks Cass. 🥰

I spent two weeks decluttering my walk-in closet, tried everything on and donated so much. Every day I feel refreshed and happy when I go inside or walk by and peek in. Then I decluttered and reorganized the master bathroom closet and labeled the containers and again the level of satisfaction when I open the door is so deep. Yes, I totally understand what you are getting at. I never thought to START in the bedroom when I feel overwhelmed, like right now. That’s a wonderful idea and that’s where I’m heading to. Thank you for your insight and enthusiasm, it’s just what I needed.

When I started working from home 2.5 years ago due to the pandemic, the only space I had for a desk was in my bedroom and since then I have done just this! I keep my bedroom neat, calm, zen for me because I often have my webcam on and you never know who's going to see my unmade bed. I started making my bed daily, putting away clean laundry, etc and now it's become my morning routine to spruce up the room even if I am only doing it for myself alone (I changed jobs and rarely am on camera anymore, lol).

I love the color scheme of your bedroom. It really is beautiful!
As for the blanket....have you tried a weighted blanket? There are cooling ones. It is a complete game changer, I cant sleep without it.

  • @marcelladominguez8787

I love that you started with talking about your bedroom- I always have to make my bed as soon as I get up otherwise it will bother me and just the simple act of making my bed sets my day right and at night when I get ready to go to bed I love coming to a clean and beautiful bedroom. The rest of the house might be untidy but if the bedroom is good then I don’t feel too stressed about it. Also, I think it is why I fall asleep as soon as my head hits the pillow.

This is crazy! We bought a new bed (from queen to king) and getting ready for it to be delivered, and basically starting over with bedding and everything, jump started me to getting control of clutter in multiple areas of the house. We picked out the bed on 7/9 and it was delivered on 7/14. And today is 7/19 and this video is so spot on! This is crazy!!

I love this so much!! It took me a while to get my room “Reset” the first day but it felt SO good afterwards!! And now each day I just go through the DREAM steps and my room has never been (and has never stayed) this clean!! I’m wondering if//hoping you have other acronyms for other parts of the house? 😁 I can carry the DREAM acronym over to my kids’ bedrooms and plan to teach them this when they’re just a bit older, but what about some other rooms like the kitchen (or even the fridge)? The living room? Office? Etc. My brain works so well with acronyms haha.
Lastly, do you have videos on decorating? Love the decor in your room!!

Hello Cas - YES, I too feel like I need more than just a sheet in the summer time for all the reasons you explained. As kids my mom got us used to using a flat, FLANNEL sheet for a "summer" blanket. Not as heavy 'n hot as a blanket. Yet just enough weight for nighttime coziness.

  • @suzanneporterfield3631

I agree, I get hot but also need a blanket too! I just bought a new bamboo blanket that is very soft, lightweight and breathable. It's helping a lot!

You are NOT alone in the heavy blanket department. I also HAVE to have my whole body covered to fall asleep. And I have also wondered if it's a childhood trauma thing. When I was around 6 or 7 our house was broken into and I actually saw the person's outline twice but was too young to put the pieces together. And then when I was 9-10ish my older sister was watching Halloween and I watched with her. Should not have done that. My dad's punishment was to wear one of his work coveralls and a Michael Myers mask WITH a kitchen knife and stand outside my window at night looking at me. Which brings me to my adult sized fear of the dark as well. Lol. I am all kinds of messed up. Anyway, I love your channel so so much! It has been so helpful for me on my decluttering journey that I started this year. You are amazing!! Thank you for what you do! 💕

You are definitely not alone. I have always been the exact same way! I envision that knife getting caught in the comforter ! I think I also feel that if something bad happens I can hide under the covers and not SEE the terrible thing that is happening to me! I thought I was the crazy one! Glad to know I’m in good company!

Yes, bedroom is THE place to start cleaning. It actually makes sense if you think about it.
As for the end story, weighted blankets are a great choice for other reasons, not just Freddie. I swear, Cass, we are long-lost sisters, or at least cousins, with your ADD and my undiagnosed neurdivergency getting us into all kinds of avoidable situations... So here's a tip: Crappy Childhood Fairy-> free tools-> the daily practice. Essentially, you put your fears and resentment on the paper in order to release them from your mind and vice versa and to address them later, in a more suitable environment/situation. If you are a Harry Potter fan, it's kind of like Dumbledore's pensieve.

Total light bulb moment! You described my messy bedroom situation perfectly!! Definitely need to grow up and make it a priority!! And yes to heavy blankets in summer, and Freddy or similar hiding under my bed ready to grab my ankle!! I do usually risk it and leave at least one foot out. 🥺😮😴🤣

Also, what was it about parenting in the 80s?? We would sit around as a family and watch Elm Street movies with pizza!! I was 8-10 ish. And it's not like we happened to find it on TV. No, we had to have gone specifically to the video rental place and chose the movie together...? I just can't imagine doing that with my kids. My 17 year old son and I watched Sing 2 on the weekend, that's more our jam!! 😊
