Opening Remarks by General Petr Pavel, Chairman of the NATO Military Committee The Military Committee, NATO’s highest Military Authority, is meeting in Chiefs of Defence (CHODs) Session today, 21 January 2016, at the NATO Headquarters, Brussels, Belgium. General Petr Pavel, Chairman of the Military Committee, is chairing the meeting.The Chiefs of Defence will review the RESOLUTE SUPPORT mission, discuss NATO’s Future Strategy, Posture and Adaptation and meet with their Mediterranean Dialogue counterparts to exchange views on the security developments in the region and practical military-to-military cooperation.

As a perspective military cadre of the former Czechoslovak People's Army
and a loyal member of the Czechoslovak communist party Pavel was
selected by the high command to join the Warsaw Pact Military Institute
in Moscow, USSR for further study. After his graduation he worked in the
military intelligence service (1991-1993)
