So, I bought a pond filter on Amazon...

  • My wife finally shamed me into getting off my lazy ass and fixing the pond that has been neglected for well over a year. I bought a filter to replace the old box filter I'd been using for the past 6 years. I'm actually kinda impressed. I was asking it to do the impossible and it almost did. Had I been a little more patient, it probably would have cleared it up in a few days. I bought this with my own hard-earned money so you can trust that I have nothing to gain one way or the other. For the price, I don't think you can go wrong with it. It's simple to setup. I never read the instructions and can't find them now anyways. The water is crystal clear now and I don't have to deal with tearing it all apart to clean the filter anymore. If you have a similar sized setup or want to make one, I recommend this unit to keep the water nice and clear with easy maintenance. Link below for the filter, hose, and pump. I've been using the same pump for about 4 years now so I can say with certainty that it's a solid unit. If you have any questions, leave them below.

Same filter system on my 600 gallon pond. Runs 24/7 365
Before the filter it was a mess.
Once A week I clean with hand crank and every 6 months disassemble and clean the innards. I’ve found out that disassembling the filters isn’t necessary and just spray the filters with hose and crank the handle. At the bottom where the balls are that’s the disgusting part. Use the hose again and then clean out the container. Reassemble and do it all over again in 6 months.
    I Live in Arizona.

I've watched many YT videos looking to find a system that is easy and affordable to use and take care of. I'm disabled so I can't always take apart, clean, and reassemble my current system. I've seen these on Amazon but just wasn't sure of it. I appreciate your honest review (I saw your update video too). Because of this video I'm more comfortable giving a system like this a try. Thank you so much!

Have had one of these sat in my basket online for about 2 weeks as I couldn't decide whether to get one. I'm currently running a solar fountain and filter which is a hassle to take out of the pond and clean out every week and also isn't really running long enough to oxygenate the pond. (Not enough sun in an English summer for a solar pump - should've seen that coming!) After watching your helpful video I think I'll hit the checkout button. Thank you

If I were you I would add a hose where the water comes out and extend it out over the pond. Your filter can become clogged when you aren't there and water could run straight down your filter side and out on the ground and drain your pond. They are meant to have a hose or sit over the pond. I've used a few different kinds over 15 years.

Try a bog filter. Essentially a bucket or barrel filled with rocks that fills at the bottom and empties out the top into the pond. Preferably have it waterfall into the pond to also aireate the water.

Looking batter for you. A bog area. Or large ceramic bowl with gravel and water flowing through like the spill fountains would be super to clear your water. CZcams vids are not clear for the different needs we have. But it’s sure worth a try. Even bagged 3/8 gravel in your waterfall filter is wonderful

The only thing that really cleared my water was building myself a bog filter with small rocks and some plants on top. I had a uv light for awhile and it did work pretty good but the unite started leaking water onto the bulb and it broke. Look into a bog filter and add some bacteria

Just got one that looks same as this one on amazon a few weeks ago.
The Amazon unit looks like a near carbon copy of the Luna unit I have but cheaper materials.
My Luna filter had worked for 25 years. The ring clamp totally fell apart due to rust and one of the handles pulled right off. It would have been 500 plus Canadian dollars to replace it.
So the Amazon one is 4x cheaper and its best feature :)
I love the fact that the canister is shut with an easy plastic clamp and sealed with a gigantic o ring.
But the cleaning mechanism is garbage. At best, it scrapes the surface of the sponge cog Wheels.
The bottom sponge does not turn on first use.
You have to unscrew assembly to get sponges to clean. Way harder than it should be. So you can spray it in place but the chlorine....
I have a filter pre box attached to intake pump to help. Output goes into a small diy barrel with biological filter media.
The biggest issue for me was this unit clogged after just 2 weeks vs whole season for the Luna unit it has replaced. Otherwise, it is similar in its ability to Luna unit. Cleaning is way worse. But for the price...I will live with it.

You could do with a filter box that holds sponges and the floss used for stuffing pillows that will collect all the fine sediment before that pressure filter it looks similar to an oase one the blue knob can be turned towards the pipe that will allow you to flush the system regularly

I actually have a foam filter from the filter box I started with. It worked OK but cleaning was a PITA and needed to be done often (every few days). I currently have the foam laying over the inlet to the pump and held down by a rock. I chose this filter for ease of use which it has performed better than I dreamed. I need to clean it 2 time/ month and the water stays crystal clear. The Pleco and turtles love it.

@@notoshaapproved I have a similar system running into a box filter with jap matting on an IBC tank I'm using to grow koi carp on over winter here in UK approximately 350 2 inch long at present . the pump is inside an upturned bucket with 3mm holes drilled all around half way up sides. And larger hole for pipe /cable . It's held down with stone and pump hasn't suffered blockage in 3 years only minimal removal to clean internally. It works great for me and my friends who use similar in there goldfish ponds .

before i sell a pond i tell my clients there are three stages of water . water problem , water head ache , water nightmare . yours is stage water nightmare . its a lot of work to keep fish ,water plants and don't get me started on turtles . the filter system you bought is sufficient for this pond . it just needs to turn the water over for two time a day . down fall is the cleaning . it will have to be cleaned often . more in important is your UV light . you need a in pipe uv or put the light in the filter . all the water must run over the UV light . turtles are highly toxic with saminila poisoning. the more you run the filter the more clear the water will get . you can also use aqua clear products . keep ph around 7 no more then 8 .5 no less then 6 . don't use water from your house it has chlorine . you can buy a filter or let water set for three days . after the water clears you will have algae problems any algaecide will do . i hope you enjoy the water feature i can tell you there is an answer for any problem you encounter . but they are work to maintain

They just came in,the temps are still colder so no chance of algae forming, but going to get out there to change it soon. My biggest coy had to much fun after the pond cleared up that I found him outside the pond 10’ plus away from it 😢 he must of jumped out of pond with new arrangement and flow of water current.
