I was at the Guardians home opener a few weeks ago, and my seats were a few sections away from those sections they took out along the third base line. It actually looked great, and there were hundreds of people standing around there drinking and hanging out. I later walked around the ballpark and I personally thought the stadium looked really cool and had that brand-new quality! It did have some other strange standing room viewing areas, particularly around center field, that instead of feeling like mistakes, felt more like fun quirks that you expect to see in much older buildings like Wrigley. The only thing that irked me was the signage and way-finding was poor and it took me longer than it should have for me to find my way to my seats.
It's the ownership of the team. That's the issue. And it's been that way for over 20 years. The dolans bought the team from Dick Jacobs in the early 2000s. Immediately, they blew the team up, and before you knew it, everybody that you associated with the Indians in the mid to late '90s was gone. . The dolans have always been looked at as cheapskates and recipients of MLB welfare. They look at the franchise as a way to make money, and not win. Nobody's saying that they should pull a New York Mets and just blow through money like there's no tomorrow. But everybody can see that the Dolan's are not real serious about winning. In fact, I think that they are trying to eke out every dollar they can get from this franchise before they ultimately sell it in the not too distant future.
Let’s go Cleveland. They should have kept the Indians but to me they’re still the tribe. Plus they got really good tv ratings. Lots of people watch them on TV
Oh stop it. I was just there this past weekend. Upper right was a massive improvement. It will look spectacular next year when complete. You just love to hate on this stadium.
The attendance numbers went down at Progressive Field when Ford closed their engine plant in the Greater Cleveland area. They lost much of their upper middle-class fans that could afford to buy game tickets on a regular basis.
It's a problem with many of the MLB teams, ticket prices have skyrocketed beyond the means of the poor and lower middle class. In the Cleveland area there are a few minor league teams not too far away with considerably cheaper tickets... MiLB baseball is the best value for sports entertainment nationwide, with seats closer to the infield action...
I gotta say, I’ve been there a couple times now post-renovations and I’ve been pleasantly surprised. I don’t think the new areas look near as bad as this guy says, and they seem like cool places to chill and watch the game. Low attendance isn’t just a stadium issue. It’s a combination of bad ownership, name change induced apathy, bad weather in the first months of the season, and a primarily blue collar fanbase that just doesn’t buy a ton of tickets (especially in a bad economy). Come summer, if the teams still winning, attendance will get a boost
You can’t change the entire identity of a franchise as storied as the Cleveland Indians and expect zero consequences , as far as many Indians fans are concerned the Guardians are dead to us…
How can you criticize a stadium that’s dead in the middle of an renovation. Wait till the place is complete first. I’m in Cleveland & been to Progressive & our stadium is STILL beautiful. It’s a work in progress. Judge it next season once it’s complete man.

I remember the Oakland Coliseum in 1996 when Mt. Davis was being constructed during the Athletics’ season, complete with jackhammering during games, and what was then-Anaheim Stadium in 1997, when most of the outfield seating sections were ripped out. Progressive Field looks completely fine, and is improving.
Those upper left field seats in Oracle have always been sparcely used. even if they sell 40,000 tickets (at or close to capacity), half those seats are empty.
I have walked around both upper deck sections and think they both look nice. The upper right deck isnt finished yet but the upper left deck above the Guardians banner is a really nice beer station with tons of nice standing room
Damn thats sad . that ballpark used to be the envy of all owners who wanted a new ballpark for their teams back in the 1990s. And it was sold out for years

A better solution would’ve been to never remove seats to out the shipping containers in and left the seats alone who cares if it’s empty you want to fill seats 2 simple fixes 1. But a good team on the field 2. Lower your ticket prices all the owners are billionaires let their pockets hurt.
I live near ATT park and it needs a baseball town around the baseball stadium with a lot of businesses near that area. and they don't have a lot of businesses in that area.
Closed shops on King Street are nothing new. It's been like that since the stadium opened, even during the early 2010's sellout streak. There simply isn't any reason to head to that area of the city 285 days a year, so the bars and restaurants.
Owners need to remember... the fans come for the games.. not to see the stadium... the arena just is where they play. On top of that.. cleveland this time of year is NOT a pleasant place to sit outside.. Right now it's below 50 degrees and with the wind coming off that giant glass of icewater (lake erie).. it's bleepin cold. Why does anyone think a cold weather team will draw in April? It’s cold in CLE until June. They’ll fill seats in the summer if the team is still playing good baseball. But this is a team that has not been invested in for many years and somehow they compete most seasons. The AL Central isn’t super competitive… At least it’s not the Browns train wreck. Go Cavs!
Northern fans like to crap on any slight southern teams have with attendance, such as Miami and Tampa, but they selectively ignore that most northern cities have generally low attendance these days. Cleveland, Detroit, Pittsburgh, Chicago White Sox, Cincinnati, Minnesota, Kansas City, Baltimore, Washington, NY Mets, all terrible. The only. Northern teams with decent to good attendance are the NY Yankees, Philadelphia, Boston, Chicago Cubs, St. Louis, and Milwaukee.
It’s the bad weather. It’s just been cold. We had one weekend series with warm weather and attendance was good. I think this is going to be a good year for attendance once the weather breaks
Changing the team name and Jim Crow Joe's economy is keeping Cleveland fans away The Giants' attendance is high due to season ticket sales...if the team is out of contention, those season ticket holders are disguised as empty seats. And, while not as cold as Candlestick Park was, it still gets cold at Oracle...which brings down attendance if the team isn't contending/some school night games DG claiming retractable roofs should be open 60 % of the time...tell us you haven't been in Texas, Arizona or Florida during the summer without telling us you haven't been in Texas, Arizona, or Florida during the summer...
A lot of my Indian friends are upset that Cleveland changed the name to Guardians. I use the term Indian instead of Native American because the closer you get to reservations, the more people use the term Indian. I used Native American for years trying to be respectful and not confuse with people from India. It's toxic white people that force the term Native American on people and want to eliminate all the Indian based team names. The name change is not the only issue with the franchise. Good luck to the Guardian fanbase and if they choose to either support or leave the franchise, I support their decision.
@@Anthony-yg1fs im not a cleveland fan i don't give a fuck just tired of hearing about this stadium careless billionaires doing careless billionaire stuff and its an ugly ballpark
A lot of it right now is the weather. It’s been cold and rainy. Also. The Athletics. If u take away the loses to the Guardians they would be 9-9. And they only played the White Sox 3 games. We’re 24 games into the season. Everyone has played a bad team. Or two. They’re good. They just won 92 games in 2022. They’re even better than that team.

Locally, people love the stadium, and seats are not what people have Said they want, Every new bar area and standing areas are very popular. You have to be on the rail to see the game. Is rather see empty seats than those decks. Taking out the Terrace Club is a horrific idea. Another iconic feature removed. The upper deck right field area you talked of were already restrooms. They just left them. The right field deck is for group functions only. Theyre calling it the "Pennant District". They completely ruined the entire park. Every renovation has been bad. Moving the bullpens was bad. All the standing room and bar rails are beyond stupid. No one wants to stand at a bar rail. The seats changing to blue is an awful idea. The original seating had a cool design on the pieces which has been replaced with their generic block C. Changing the team name, the ballpark renovations all provr ownership is not in touch with the fans. Not even a little.
