Make sure to check out the tutorials by Zsolt (the creator of the plugin @VisualPKM )
Here's a list of his videos in order: github.com/zsviczian/obsidian...
Also if you can, make sure to "Buy Him a Coffee" to support his incredible work!
I'm becoming more of a fan of obsidian the more plugins I see like this.
Appreciate the comment as always man! And yeah I 100% agree. sometimes I wonder if I use Obsidian because I like it by itself. or just because of the plugins 🤣
If you prefer this app model to centralised development model don't forget to donate a lil something to the devs of plugins you appreciate the most from time to time when money is good. People put an awful lot of free work into making such tools.
Love the joy you convey with your video editing
Thanks you so much! happy to know the editing is worth it!
I love how excited you are about this plugin XD
I have this plugin already installed, but I really underestimated its potential! Thanks again, Santi!
that's great, happy to know I was of help, enjoy this awesome plugin David!
I’ve played around with Excalidraw for a while, and it resonates so much to see you being that excited haha! This plugin is absolutely amazing!
awesome comment, thanks for your support!
so "amazing" that it does not support inserting tables and code snippets that you can draw on. Also frames substitute data collapsing but it's very limited. i will stick to OneNote so far.
How cool is that! Thanks for pulling this together.
my pleasure Charles, thanks for taking the time to watch it!
Hi Santi! Thanks for the awesome video. Very nicely explained.
Hey Zsolt! thank you so much for the incredible work you've done with this plugin!
Keep it up man, love seeing new obsidian videos!
thanks Sergio, means a lot man! Loved your latest video on backing up, it's such an important topic to cover, I've been having that topic on my videos to-do for way to long 😀 you beat me to it
@@SantiYounger Oh thanks man appreciate that :) Haha guess I beat you on that one! Have a great week!
Great vid Santi, I learned a lot!
thanks a lot Nick, really appreciate you for checking it out! PS: I send you a message on Discord, check it when you get a chance. Have an awesome week!
I've been looking for something like that for obsidian. Thanks! Also, I love your vibe, soo enthusiastic and energetic. :)
Thanks Pauline, appreciate the support and kind words!
Nice overwiew - I was just as excited when I found this plugin.
Thanks man I wouldn't have found out about Zsolt without you. Very fuckin appreciative of both of you
This is incredible, so glad I found this.
Hey Ingmar, thanks for the support man!
Hi Santi, another cool video. I really look forward to your YT content on Obsidian. I now feel I should really subscribe to your Obsidian course!
That's awesome thanks a lot for the support Nigel! Have an awesome day!
Man, this kid is so awsome! Keep up the great energy dude!
The kid is grateful, thank you!!
very nice! thanks for the introduction. i was intimidated by the plugin before watching this video.
Hey Snow, glad I could help!! thanks for the support!
Wow. Really nice one. Thx for sharing and explaining.
my pleasure, thank you for watching
Hi! Really grateful for ur excali videos! Is there a way to make bullet points containing drawings/shapes whether on excalidraw/brain or native obsidian?
Hey great vid! How are you getting word wrap in shapes or just in a text box?
Wow just incredible
amazing man!
amazing you! thanks for watching
How does this compare to the new canvas?
Awesome
*Pressuresensitive Input*
Thank you dear Santi for this gentle intro.
Question: Does the Ios Ipad version support pressure sensitive input by the ApplePencil.
This looks great! I'll install this plugin RIGHT NOW 🤩
(Also, I have a dog and the note about squeaky toys did disturb me, good job hahaha)
so happy to hear that! and yeah that dog fun fact is horrible hahaha
Can you label an arrow?
I normally use a mix between Notion and Miro boards for my workflow, but I am so thrilled about the graphs visualization of obsidian that I really want to make it my main tool. Do you think at some point because of the plugins it could be a prop r substitute for those two? I have checked dataview plugin but it is still not even close to Notion tables and their visualizations, and this excalidraw is a nice try for mindmaps but it is not so well designed as Miro boards... What do you think in your own opinion about the development of the plugins in this terms for the future, with your experience in the field, they will get as good? Many thanks! Great chanel by the way!
thanks a lot Jose, and incredible question. I'll be honest with you I don't ever think Obsidian's plugins will create an equivalent to something as powerful as Notion's databases.
This is because I don't think the Obsidian developers are interested to compete with Notion. And any independent plugin developers have nothing close to the resources (money) that Notion has.
I agree as much as dataview is awesome, I don't think it can compete with Notion as a full alternative. What I do is I keep using Notion for databases, and Obsidian for everything else.
I really wish Obsidian could become a Notion alternative, but I really don't think it's possible, however I'd love to be wrong 😀
Regarding Miro vs excalidraw plugin, in my opinion that's closer to possible.
However at it's current state I still think apps like Miro will remain more powerful specially when it comes for collaboration.
I think trying to achieve absolutely everything inside of Obsidian is not the best idea, my recommendation would be:
Use the additional apps you value, and experiment to see if certain Obsidian plugins can replace some of them.
I talk more about this topic here: czcams.com/video/w1nQgBQ4q2M/video.html
hope that helps!!
Awesome video and plug-in, did you check if same functionality are in logseq through the command '/draw' ?
Hey man, yeah I've tried the logseq excalidraw integration, and at least when I last tried it it didn't have the linking to notes functionality. But if we request it in the forums we might be able to get it in the future!
Incredible... just like Visio back in the noughties. : ))))))
uhh that sound interesting, what is visio? I'm not familiar
Ty
Gonna have to try this plugin, to help me plan out my Uni assignments. Ta!
that sound awesome, let me know how it goes!
@@SantiYounger will do, though will probably for my 2nd assignment onwards.
visual PKM is an amazing tool - a mental sandbox! Obsidian and these brutal plugins!
100% agree! yeah I've getting super interested in visual PKM tools
This fantastic plugin works well even in the mobil versión!! I really like it. Thanks for your video Santi.
so good to hear that Javier, and that's awesome I was aware the plugin worked on mobile but I havn't tried it yet, awesome!
Super well-explained Santi. For the connecting node part, I got the problem that in the preview mode, I could only see some first sentences in the node I connected to (though I have more than that). What should I do now? Thanks a lot!
hey, happy to help! so, are you sure you are not just embeding the title of a note instead of doing a block embed? I have a video on my channel on "block references" in case you aren't sure. Hope that helps!
I love this, Santi! Any advice for using this on the iPad? I mainly use Obsidian on the desktop but sometimes find it easier to draw with the Apple note. But some of the behavior is a little different than expected. Just wondered if you've used it this way and if you have any tips. Thanks!
I get you, unfortunately I don't have an ipad, but I can definitely see a lot of people wanting that out of this plugin.
What's the current problem? is it not responsive enough, or is it something else?
@@SantiYounger Yeah, basically a lot of the behavior isn't quite what I expect. I was playing around with lines and fills. I'll try playing around with it some more - just looking for some tips to shorten the learning curve. Thanks! I love your content and energy
@@drmelhopperkoppelmandac6834 got you, yeah unfortunately I don't have an ipad to test it on, but I highly recommend reaching out to the creator, since I definitely see a lot of people benefiting from a better mobile experience.
Thanks a lot for the kind words and awesome support!
Looks sick! Does this work to handwrite things w/ Spen on mobile?
it's pretty cool, honestly I havn't tried it in mobile, so I'm really not sure, let me know if you manage to get it worknig
If excalidraw plug-in really gets more upgrades, its gonna be like Onenote with bi-directional linking, and down goes One note
Keep us updated regarding any update of excalidraw plug in
I agree, it's definitely a great addition to Obsidian, I like that comparasion, Will definitely keep an eye on this awesome plugin for sure, thanks!
onenote seems to have been a program ahead of it's time. :) I remember using it with ease 14 years ago. linking all kinds of notes from all kinds of media. searching through typed notes just as easily as handwritten notes and spoken notes in audio recordings. putting in video's, being able to annotate it all. I mostly missed the linking capabilities, they were there, but just still rudimentary. I had to make some mindmaps to accompany my other notes to help link them together. but making mindmaps was also easy in onenote. but I used hyperlinks wherever I could.
I'm not that happy with microsoft, I use linux for almost everything, but onenote was the only exception for which I couldn't find a substitute for years. It was so easy in use and had so much capabilities in comparison with other programs... I hated it for not making me able to switch fully to linux
This plugin is really good, even though i think that the handwriting experience should be improved, also the possibility to add images and an eraser for the handwriting (maybe usable by clicking a key on the stylus) would be game changers.
the creator of the plugin announced that image support is coming very soon. And I'm not sure about handwriting functionality, but I agree, hope that's added too!
@@SantiYounger Cool! awesome vid btw you made me discover some features of excalidraw i didn't know ^-^
@@Marco-zj1hs that's great, so happy to hear that!
Can you use buttons?
Looks like there's a green switch there
that's just an icon, so it's just a drawing. Even though you can't toggle it, you could add a link on top of it with this format [[link to note| ]] that would make an link without text, which you could add on top of the icon
Hope that gives you some ideas, it's pretty cool
@@SantiYounger yes, thanks!
Hi, how do you enter the text at 4:10? Is it speech-to-text?
that's just me typing like normal, and the speeding up the video edit to make the video less boring 😁
@@SantiYounger lol, it looked a bit like magic :)
Oh my > .... [[ ]] THIS IS GREAT!
happy you like it, it's awesome for sure
omg this is a bottle of water, this is MIND BLOWING, you can GRAB WATER< MIND BLOWIng
same
Finally a way out of Miro!
happy to hear that!
Obsidian had this powerful plugins? 🤯
my laptop keeps freezing whenever I want to write or draw , any solution?? thanks
it's hard to tell from my side, but if you have a not very powerful computer there's a setting in Obsidian that might help a bit. settings > about > advanced "hard hare acceleration" try turning it on and off, see if that makes a difference. IF it doesn't leave it how you found it at the default.
I hope that helps!
@@SantiYounger
my laptop is "asus x505za"has 16GB ram, it works fine other program I don't know why I encountered with such a problem. Anyway thanks a lot for your good contentssss
@@pr1nceofPers1a got you, that's really strange, sorry to hear that. I don't know what it could be sorry. Maybe someone in the Obsidian discord community might be able to help
@@SantiYounger
Today I unistalled alll other plugins, now excalidraw works fine :)) I dont know why but now everything is ok.
thank you
Oh my god, i was using obsidian without knowing that i can embed file content 🤯🤩😀
so happy to hear you learn that, make the most of it, it's a great feature!
I can't the links to notes working. Shift-Click, Ctrl-Shift-Click... nothin
actually, I can get it to work if I go to "view mode" (option+r). Then I can double-click the links. But in Edit mode it doesn't work.
@@Stan_sprinkle yeah in the excalidraw plugin you need to be on "preview mode" to open the links.
Check out the tutorials from the creator of the plugin for a more in depth explanation
github.com/zsviczian/obsidian-excalidraw-plugin#video-walkthrough
Good luck with it!
wow
thanks, happy you liked it
Thanks for the video. Great plugin. Would anybody know one to manage tables (it is quite tedious in Markdown)?
I get you this is definitely a big frustration in markdown, there's a community plugin called "advanced tables" ( I think that's the name) but honestly for advanced tables I either use Notion or google sheets. The experience in Obsidian might improve in the future for tables, but for now it's very limited by markdown
Hope that helps!
Using community plug-ins, isn't a privacy concern for notes? Because Before using them, the app warns you about it...
I had all this functionality on my tablet pc that I used 14 years ago ... my mind is mostly blown by how slow technology (from the point of program functionalities) is moving this past decade. It's more easily accesible and affordable (allthough... I was quite a poor student 14 years ago) , it's more portable, things got smaller, and using remote storage (cloud) options got more popular, bigger and cheaper (hmm... maybe not really cheaper, but at least their are more options and easy to use). But the functionality is really lacking. They still offer the exact same possibilities as were already available for more then a decade :-/ . It's still great and useful, just nothing new.
That's an interesting perspective for sure, you are right especially with note-taking even the most advanced of apps are only better looking versions of what was already possible to programmers 10 years ago. I still think that making things accessible and more aesthetic is good progress. But you're right in terms of functionality, innovation things haven't changed drastically.
Which apps do you use? Do you find it worth it to use modern apps?
😮😮😱😱😱
😎😎😎
Slim shady? Fan of Eminem I see.
hahah yeah, awesome you got the reference
Obsidian or logseq 😓 ?
I highly recommend using Logseq as a journal and Obsidian for things that depend on plugins.
If you only want one, then Obsidian is more powerful and stable at the moment
Hope that helps
@@SantiYounger Got it, thanks
äähm, just ordinary sketch and diagram features... exists since years in many tools xD
You are right I should switch my notes to Microsoft Paint 😂
