    This might help other people, I got a cheap a5 plain paper pad, tore the cover off and it sits next to my laptop, so when I'm listening to CZcams I can doodle. also I've made it my mission this year to simply use up my ungodly amount of unused notebooks and years old pens even if I'm just scribbling. I think some artists think they need the ultimate art supplies and the most expensive paper but that means you're never truly ready to "ruin" or "waste" them and therefore never end up using them. If your mission is hey let's use up every page of this books or use up all the ink in this pen you'll find yourself drawing a hell of a lot more. Is most of it terrible? Yes lol but you're still practicing and improving even if you're just improving your doodle game

    • @beybladebaby
      @beybladebaby Před 3 měsíci +4

      I should say that I tore the cover off the paper pad because of the mental barrier it creates, if a closed book is on my desk I'll leave it alone, if it's ready to go it's more tempting I guess, although maybe that's just me

    Thank you. I have been on the road back to my art since Fall 2021. I found CZcams then. I have been doing Art since 1975. High School. I am now 65 years old. I am not done yet. It helps me with my Anxiety which I have been under a doctors care for along with resulting heart problems. I had been working with my art on and off over the years. This time I am growing. I found out I can finally draw people. Line draw with loose sketching. I knew how to line draw etc. in School. I just couldn't loose sketch people better than I did at the time. I am back to being myself where I want to try and I know it is possible. Thank you for inspiration.

I do try to draw every day, even if it's something that I've already drawn loads of times. The ladies in my choir always ask what I've drawn each week at choir practice, but it's always the same old corbel, trying to catch the way the shadows work. I can see that it's a better drawing this month than it was in February, which is great.

At around 21, life stuff happened, school became a struggle as i was close to getting my diploma and around age 22 i quit drawing completely. For some reason i never picked it up again till the end of last year. Im 31 now. I have started from the basics AND even started painting! And i love it. Im so glad something just clicked in me last year that made me go back to it. And now i'm taking it a lot more serious. I started drawing in September last year and stopped in January. Why? Because I got frustrated. In my own opinion I didn't make any progress during that time. Also, it's very hard to draw for me, because I always expect nothing less than nearly perfect from myself. Of course that's a way to get frustrated easily.
    But I refuse to say I gave up! Because I know, I'm gonna start drawing again, I'm just not sure yet when that will be. Currently I'm working on being more patient and less of a perfectionist. Maybe I should also consider drawing less often in the future. I tried to follow your advice and draw every day. But perhaps that's not for me, because if you draw every day and don't see any progress in your skills it gets very frustrating.

    Very true. I spent a few years studying art through various online classes and art books (one of them was The Creative License!). I got to where I was very proud of my work. Then my situation changed. I didn't have as much time to devotw to art. It got away from me. Now I feel like I've lost all of that skill. Though I know I can get it back, I find myself wrestling with time constraints and my inner critic. Maybe I just need to focus on the small time I do find to draw (even if it's "terrible") and be happy that the fire is still within me. I WILL get there again! Thank you for all of your encouragement over the years.

And even if you know better, that is discouraging at times when your own is nothing like that. I stopped sketching because it was exhausting only wanting high standard mini drawings and paintings in it. I feel like only one is messed up, it dishonours the good ones in it.

    And I have been wondering about that for the past 2 weeks and this urge to take my pencil and just scribble something has been on my mind! THIS video feels like you just read my mind♥️ Thanks for this♥️

      There are many great sketchbook manufacturers, all available on Amazon: Canson, Hahnemuhle, Fabriano, Moleskine. Mixed-media books are good because you can use wet media, and they don't have a rough texture that makes it hard to draw with a pen. Don't buy the cheap ones. A good sketchbook will cost less than $20 and last for months if you draw regularly. Need pen advice? czcams.com/video/6psVzMUJbNY/video.html

    I like the idea of drawing to appreciate a moment and to preserve it. But... when I look at my old drawings, I usually don't remember the moment at all. Like, OK, I drew this sneaker lying on the floor, or this flower, or this croissant, but so what? Even two years later, it's devoid of any context or meaning. I think, Danny, that your accompanying *notes* have MUCH more intrinsic value as mementos. Or at least, that the combo of drawing + note is far more effective than simply drawing. So I'm not sure why you put so much more emphasis on the drawing part. The written text is what makes the sneaker unique and meaningful to you. Anyone can draw a shoe and then forget why they drew it, only you drew THAT shoe with THAT story attached to it.
