As we know, Plinth level is the level which lies at the end of the substructure and at the beginning of superstructure. The beam which is provided at the plinth level is known as plinth beam. This is the first beam constructed after the completion of foundation.
Plinth beams play an important role in a building structure. These provide a connection between the columns and hence prevent them from buckling. They prevent the extension or propagation of cracks from the foundation into the walls, when the foundation suffers from settlement.
Plinth beams distribute the load of superstructure over the foundation in an evenly manner. The size of plinth depends upon the lateral and axial loads acting on it. That's why it becomes necessary to provide the proper size of a plinth beam.
In addition to that we must know what quantity of steel should be provided for a particular size to avoid any cracks in the walls of the structure caused by any settlement.
In this lecture i have discussed what sizes of plinth beams should be provided in residential buildings upto G+3 storey as per thumb rule. I have also discussed about the details of steel reinforcement provided in each type of plinth beam.
If we want to construct ground floor only....the minimum size of plinth beam should be taken as 9'' x 9'' or 225mmx0.225mm
For this size of beam we should provide a minimum of 4 number of steel bars (2 at the top and 2 at the bottom) having a minimum dia 12mm plus tie bars/rings of size 8mm spaced at 150mm c/c.
For G+1 storey, the size of the plinth beam should be taken as 9''x12'' or 225mmx300mm
And we should provide a minimum of 5 number of steel bars... Out of which 2 number of bars of minimum dia 12mm at top, 2 no of 12mm bars at bottom and one extra bar of 10mm dia at the bottom plus tie bars/rings of size 8mm spaced at 150mm c/c
For G+2 storey, the beam size should be taken similar to the G+1 storey building i.e, 9''x12'' or 225mmx300mm
And we should provide 5 number of steel bars.... Out of which 2 number of 12mm bars at top and 3 number of 16mm bars at the bottom.... plus tie bars/rings of size 8mm spaced at 150mm c/c
The same size should be taken for G+3 storey building i.e, 9''x12''
And we should provide 2 number of 16mm bars at top, 2 number of 16mm bars at bottom and 2 extra bars of dia 12mm at the centre of the main bars
Again the tie bars/rings of size 10mm spaced at 150mm c/c

First time i saw a you tube vedio which is precise to the point no unnecessary boring lecture .
I really appreciate. Pl let us know about G+4 residential building. &footing details.
We also need to specify the Code that governs for each country. It varies depending of the seismic condition. Like Most countries, 16mm is the minimum bar used for beams and columns.
Really appreciate your explaination, may God bless u
very good description, i can easily learn from this type of animation with description.
Superb! Thank you for sharing this video. Please increase your audio volume by two fold. The video & illustration quality is very good. Greetings from Papua New Guinea.

So good. Like to understand about columns sizes and spacing
Having discuss the size of flinth beam ! Kindly please discuss the TIE BEAMS in the same manner. TYVM
Mai basaan cxe gasakh kashur aasun .......By the way very nice information about Size of plinth beam for residential buildings
Love u sirji❣️u will definitely grow immensely
very good explanation......thank you so much...
Tanku good explain May god bless you sir
I wish in Pakistan …people start to educate like u do…👍👍👍
Very nice explanation even im not an eng'r,i really understand this
Hello Sir. Thank you So much
To feed back My Rft knowledge.
Wonderfully explained.
Very important knowledge 💕 in civil engineering
Yes 😊
Thankyou
Sir I want to ask you. One more thing important is span of column to column... If the span is more than 15ft there is a need of 9"*15" Beam.. And minimum 16mm 3 bars at the bottom and 2 bars at top
Long span recommendable for Commercial building.. for domestic purpose Short span with 4*12mm rods more than enough since there wont be extra live load at all time.
sir maximum span plz
Can u pls suggest what type of steps we should taken For 40 ft width pillar to pillar ..
Please provide the estimation for G+3 building end-to-end steel requirement with sizes under 185 SqYards with 12 pillers each and 1377 sft
Tie beam is for tying the columns so that they dont go for Long column. At footing level it is called strap Beam. Please explain if I am false.
Hello sir u told about beams but did not said about pillars plz say about pillars and Pillar span
I have an existing G+1. I am renovating the 24 year old building which is wall to wall construction without pillars. In the ground floor, I want to break the center wall and give support using 2 C framr making a box type frame vertically support and 1 I frame Horizontal. I planned to construct G+2. Can I use 8 inch width I frame or H frame 6mm thickness for G + 2 support ? What type of support should I give vertically and Horizontally?
Good information
Thanks for this
because the upper columns are larger than the ground column. should , is the oppositte
G+3 building
16 mm steel in bottom
12mm in top
0ne 16mm extra bent bar
Vizag steel
Plinth beam construction was, completed
Is there any problem in this method
What kind of foundation required, if there's black soil up to 25ft deep
Thanks 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Sir for G+3 building can my column size 15×8 column
Thanks so much i like to have this pdf please
