The Nikon Z6 III is the long awaited camera in Nikon's mirrorless system. The new camera features a all new, partially stacked CMOS sensor which enables a host of features that were previously not possible on 24 megapixel sensors because of the slower speed readouts. You can shoot 20fps burst speed raw files and 6K video up to 60p with no crop.

This is the camera we (Z6II users) have been waiting for!! As someone who prefers the Z6II body size for full time photography, this is a MASSIVE WIN. I’ve used the Z 9, Z 8, Z f and I ALMOST settled for the Z f because of how good the AF and low-light was. The Z 6III just take the distance! Well done, Nikon!
Can't take people serious that are disappointent with this camera. This thing is the best in class at everything and above competitors with it's performance in photo and video mode. The price will come down over time or there will be a trade-in or cash-back. Too much complains about nothing.
Yes, it's good, but price would be really attractive closer to $2200 to compete directly with S5IIx and I wish the dynamic range weren't so mid, but it's usable.
@@JohnSmith762A11B the ZF is 2k. $200 is not enough to compensate for the advance feature of the Z6iii over the ZF.
I was waiting for this camera for like a year. Pre ordered!
Looking forward to the full review!
It’s really great to see Nikon is properly back.
Thanks; Will be interesting to see a comparison with the Nikon ZF after using both cameras for a while. The Nikon ZF looks lovely; just like the older SLR's such as the Nikon FM, FM2. But the Nikon Z8, Z7 and these Z6's look great as well.
Just sold my Z5 and now waiting on this beast!
Yes, I must have this Nikon!
Incredible
How many upgrades does one person need!
World’s greatest pics made on simpler cameras.
Cameras now like phones, something new every Xmas.
Some just have to have the latest and greatest even if they shoot on auto and can’t navigate the menu. Just my retail experience.
we just need more and more after this
Would you prefer no one bought them, and cameras ultimately became only phones.
I agree. We should nationalize the camera industry and only have 1 option called THE Camera. So everyone works on equal footing.
Dude, this video isn't being watched by just z6ii owners.
I agree. This is a major win for Nikon users because of where they came from (basically the bottom of the heap,) but if these features were on comparable Sony or Canon these would just be considered upgrades.
Not me, I've been around too long to be constantly hit by G.A.S., and one thing I know from experience, for me it's best to wait a few months after a product comes out before making up my mind. In addition, it will also pay off much better for me to have ice in my stomach, and wait for between one or two years before I buy. Because then the price is usually more reasonable, and you also know a little more about the faults/cons via several others serious photographers who are not paid by Nikon or are fanboys, because then it is easier to make the right decision 😉
Nikon Z6II is on sale for $1399 today at the Nikon Store.
Exactly my thoughts, I'm very tired of CZcamsrs being used as free adverts and not giving well balanced reviews. Also like you say in 6 months it'll be a much more attractive price
It was like that with Panasoonic s5ii. The camera had extremely good reviews before release but it was known information that Panasonic gave all the content creators s5ii and 3 lenses to keep forever. When the camera came out it wasnt as good as it was presented. I was glad i waited and didnt preorder and I'll do the same with z6iii
The ZF has been what I've been thinking about getting, but I'd love to see you compare it to the Z6III.
Why would you accept the control set and ergonomics of a ZF when you could have either of the Z6s?
@@echt114 because it looks cool. I tried one out at the store and didn't have any issues with the controls or ergonomics, either. And, according to b and h, the ZF is cheaper by enough to matter.
Great review! What watch are you wearing though?
We’re in the same boat! Love my. Zf and have a Z6ii that I’m not using as much! Question for your review, how much faster/better is the electronic shutter than the Zf? Glad Nikon let you get your hands on one! 💪🏽
Waiting for your Zf 1 year review, Ted. 😊
thanks, interesting camera, is there a chance to test it with Sony af lenses?
I think it’s time for me to upgrade from my Z6 to this z6iii!
Let's see extensive testing in low light vs the z6ii, especially photography. Does the partially stacked sensor hold up at high isos vs the z6ii, which is one ot a handful of cameras to have max iso performance on stills. What's realistic for street at night? Nikon has some fast lenses suitable for street, but how fast is af, say on a figure approaching a night tennis court, just outside of the spotlights?
Love your review . . Thank You !
Question for the full review: how does it compare with the Z7 II?
I would like to see somebody test the video. Duration and heating. The lumix has the internal fans virtually eliminating overheating. How does Nikon compare?
First impresion!
Currently have the Panasonic G9 mk2 with up to 300fps continuous shooting BUT with manual focus?
Im not video shooter, and now not a Nikon user, although a bit of a brand fan from the past. I think if I was to switch (now on Panasonic just for the street value of their kit deals) I would get the Z6 II or Zf and a Lens. Do you think the improvements in the non video features are enough?
For the full review I would like to know more about low light video performance, particularly at the ISO6400 dual native setting. I’m curious about noise performance when light is limited. Though to my surprise I will have a Z6III to work with starting tomorrow.
does the camera do auto focus stacking
The feature set is compelling, but I would like to hear a more in-depth discussion on image quality. How does it handle natural and artificial light? Is the flash sync with the electronic shutter at 1/60 usable? How are the skin tones in different lighting scenarios? How do they compare to the Nikon Z6 Mark I and II, Leica SL, Canon, and other models? Additionally, what is the speed and fluidity like when connecting to the phone app?
Does the Nikon Z6 iii have continuous shooting at 240fps with auto focus?
I love the bigger body and grip. It's all I ever wanted from the previous version.
Question, just to make sure lol You said there is no crop on 4K @ 60FPS?
Hello Ted, thank you for the review. I am close to purchasing a Nikon Zf but I not because of the retro look; I am interested in the way the autofocus indicators interact with appropriate manual focus lenses such as those from Voigtlander. I much prefer the ergonomics of the Z6III though. Do you know if the Z6III supports the same auto/manual focus mode(s) as the Zf?
It supports the same eye-confirmation in MF as the ZF. I saw quite a few asking after that in various reviews, and there have been confirmation from a few of them.
As birding is no fun with my Z5 autofocus, Z6iii will be my new cam
I have a question about the prerelease. If you're shooting in raw, will the prerelease shots be jpg and then switch to raw for the regular frames?
❤❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉😊😊so excited
What's the background song playing in the first minute of the video?
I was really hoping for the same sensor as the ZF because the images are just gorgeous. Its leica level of beauty, so my question would be does that partially stacked sensor sacrifice a bit of image quality to gain read out speed? A similar situation to the Sony A9iii and its slightly noisier images because of the global shutter.
yeah but DX crop on a z6iii 24mp takes you to 10mp compared to the z8 in DX 19mp and if you want to make big prints the 19mp will result in better results on paper
at 2:30 you show bird detection. Is this from a Z8 or 9 since I dont think the 6iii has that? It's under Animal.
If they had put a sensor shield in, to make it safer to change lenses in the field, it would be the perfect camera for me. I'd buy 2!!
question image detail comparison to Z8 both images in fx
waiting for the z8 ii
What does the Z6 III offer over the Sony A7 IV that is worth ~ 50% higher price? (2k vs 3k)
Thank you! Does it have the same manual focus assists as the Zf?
It does
@@scottscrufari Cheers for the confirmation, Scotty, I love this feature when used in conjunction with my native Voigtländer z-mounts on the Zf, hoping it will come to a Z9 FW near me soon, as it would make life easier when shooting my 75 1.5 Voigtländer on it. Fingers crossed.
You brought up your presets in this video, which are still my favorite Lightroom presets, and really the only ones that I use with any regularity. I just wanted to suggest that you create a package of color grading presets. I recently came across Mark Dumbleton's Lightroom presets, and he has a free black and white Lightroom preset package, which includes seven color grading presets. He intended the presets to be used to shape the black and white image, but I have been really happy with the subtle changes they make to my Nikon D850 color images. The changes are very subtle (which is a rarity with Lightroom presets), and they don't make the image look at all unrealistic (which, again, to me, is a positive thing, and a welcome reprieve), but they can completely transform the mood of the image (and help it to pop). Less important, but something I took note of, they almost have the ability to make Nikon images look like Sony images, etc. Color grading is a very important step in the photo editing process, and having a preset package of maybe 12-20 subtle, but effective color grading Lightroom presets that are put together by an academically minded photographer such as yourself would help photographers who are comfortable making exposure adjustments, but less comfortable with color grading their shadows, midtones, and highlights, etc. Best wishes.
Hi, I have the AoP Lightroom presets but when I apply them to raw images from my Z50, they seem to affect the images way too much. Not sure if it’s a process I’m not doing right or some settings I’ve not got right…any advice?
Thanks for review, stacked sensor is great. However, I feel the red tone is little high, causing skin tone a bit off. Red is too RED, leaves color is not very accurate. I am comparing with Canon R6
Are there any improvements in manual focusing. No mention yet of all z6III vids yet. Thanks, well done!
I would assume that the new viewfinder would improve things visually. Functionally I'd expect it to work the same as on the Zf, Z8 and Z9.
It has the same eye-confirmation for MF than the Zf does. So yes, indeed a very nice improvement.
hows the AF ? I hear different things on it..
Do you recall if this has the A/B/C/D SHOOT banks that are in the Z8? I'm guessing it doesn't since there is a U1/U2/U3? I decided on this over the Zf, which is a beautiful camera but ergonomics were too much of a challenge, also missing some little things here and there. I wanted to love the Zf but couldn't, too heavy for the ergo for me.
No, it has the 3 user modes like the rest of the Z 7 and below.
So it's a slightly smaller and cheaper Z8, with 6k instead of 8k. 👍
Z8 is a 45mp sensor and still better AF
@@yacko00dont forget the price range
If you are not currently a z6 or z6ii owner then you can’t appreciate this camera.
@samwitthecam I have both of those 👍
@@samwitthecam I guess that's why Nikon can't beat Canon and Sony then eh? No one wants their cameras if they don't already have them 😂
If I am a photographer that does not shoot videos, will the Z8 be a better candidate or a Z7ii for the 45MP sensor?
That's for you to decide. Do you need those pixels or not? I have been shooting Nikon 45MP cameras for as long as they have been out. I need all those pixels and 24MP would not work for most of my work.
I really miss a shield to avoid dust on the sensor
No RAW pre-capture is a bit of a bummer.
Who makes the sensor for the Z6 III? Can we expect it to show up in other cameras?
Sony
The only other camera that will use this sensor is the upcoming Sony A7S4
@@coleargue7194 sensors are not copy/paste, each brand designs their own. They may end up being similar, but they will not be the same thing.
@@deejayiwan7 on paper you're right.. in reality you're wrong.. when it comes to sensors, it way more complicated than that!! Just like saying sony makes the fuji GFX100 sensor which is true on paper..
On 2:31 you are showing subject detection that has bird subject recognition. I just purchase my camera in store. No such subject detection.
Any comments on this?
Is this why the Z6II is marked down to $1399.00 today at the Nikon store?
I haven't seenanything yet to compelme to trade in my Zf. So, like a lot of other commenters I look forward to a comparison and hope you don't find something I can't live without on the Z6iii.
If you have the Zf you don’t need this. The Z6iii is for people like me who are current z6 or z6ii owners.
@@samwitthecamExcept that the ergonomics and the EVF look way better on the Z6III, imho (I own the Zf)
@@lucschoonjans4540 I understand! But ergonomics might night be enough to switch.
I would be interested to know which one is going to be the better option, z6iii or z8 in light of the price difference.
The main/only factor is whether you need the 45.5MP of the Z 8 or if the Z 6III 24.5MP will work for you.
50mm f/1.8 is huge! too bad we can't use old glass on the new camera body's
(sure there are adaptor's)
Yes it is. I use all my old AIs lenses on my Z 9 with the FTZII adapter. They still look the same though in the images.
The z6iii is outstanding when compared to the z6ii overall and yes it has better buffer than the Z9 but does the new 24mp sensor capture more detail than the z6ii as the z8 is a lear winner over the z6ii in capturing detail for large fine art prints.
Z8 is in a different class I wouldn't expect the Z6 III to match it in fine art image quality.
@@JohnSmith762A11B hi thx I really appreciate your reply as I’m just about to book the z6iii to do a photo comparison but I’ve already done a z8 vs 6ii and like you said no comparison thx again
theres no dedicated bird ID on the z6iii
You have the very best review of the Nikon z6 iii because you are truly one the best in your field. Bravo ! With HUGE graitude 🫶🤗🤗🙏
It can't back up video. I moved to Sony for this reason. Also with the biggest lens mount why is it's stabilisation still behind Panasonic.
If it had a flip-up screen, it would be perfect.
If you compare it only to the Z6/Z6 II, then yes, it is.
I just hope they don't put that flip-screen on the Z9 II and Z8 II.
Engineer something different that allows us to quickly tilt, without extending, like Sony did, or keep the current mechanism.
Soo...big cameras are dying, Nikon, Canon, Sony, Panasonic and Olympus soon switch to the fast food business,...or are they...? It looks pretty alive wherever one looks! I just bought a used Canon R and a (new but nevertheless affordable to me:-) RF 50mm 1.8, and was blown away by the quality of the images and the low light performance! I shoot a lot of Macro but I no longer bother with a tripod;-) And the R is by now already history. So kudos guys, and keep up the good work ❤
Does it have dual video recording?
No.
new gear is always great.
its like getting new and younger girlfriends (gears), its always fun to hang out with.
The camera does not have a curtain to protect the sensor from dust, right?
Right
@@kennethraysealsphotography3513 so It doesn't have....
That's an important feature I was looking for...
What will be the expected price?
£2,700 and $2,500
Not s lot there over the 6II for a photographer only and I won,t bother ordering one. Maybe the video is a different story. I am intrigued as to why all cameras include video when a lot of photographers like myself never bother with it. Cheers
240 fps 1080p is in FX
Sony took under 5 years to bring out the A7iii. Nikon has taken about 6 years to bring out the Z6iii with useable auto focus. But they could have done this sooner, about the the same as when they brought out the Z8. Canon was able to nail auto focus early as they had the experience from the M series. But Nikon didn’t seemed to learn anything about auto focus from the Nikon 1 experience.
In hybrid category nikon is still lagging in MP. They are jumbled in stills and video cameras. Af is still catching up to a7c level for Z6iii.
only one missing feature.... being able to record until the SD card is full
@2:37 It doesn't have bird af. That must be a screen record of Z8 or Z9
Can anyone estimate, by percentage, how much better a photographer I will become when I buy a Z6 III and open the box?
It's al good if your buying with USD otherwise its too expensive .
Unfortunately the price is SIGNIFICANTLY higher , 3000 Euro in Germany - that is a lot of money in my opinion !
( one could buy 3 used Nikon Z6II, or 1 used Z7II and some nice lenses ! for that money !!! )
Please do a VIDEO About ::::Low Light f4 Lenses Longer like 85mm or 24mm-120mm f4 AF ???? Eye AF ??? Low Light IBIS how slow SS handheld ???? STILL PHOTOS not Cine ThankYou :) :) :)
Ummm they did raise the price tho
$2600 so not cheap when compared to the Z8 which is on summer sale
Prerelese must be RAW. Like on Canon. JPG is mostly useless...
Why are these Z primes so big these days?
Nikon is aiming for minimum optical defects in the S-line lenses, so if you consider lenses like the 50 1.2, 85 1.2, 135 1.8, etc, they will be big and heavy, especially if they are trying to eliminate focus-breathing. The F1.8 lenses are not as big and heavy, but still very good optically. Good to have options though.
@@bsc001 so these would easily outperform the G series lenses for example? Like the 50 1.4g not just for focus breathing but potentially in every way…?
@@bsc001 thank you for your reply.
@@Vartan297 Correct, yes, the newer lenses are optically superior, much sharper and fewer aberrations, for example.
Some though, might prefer the rendering of these older lenses, so best to rent before you invest, imho
@@bsc001 ah yes, brilliant! Thank you again.
Bottom line - for new cameras the only thing that’s going to change 90 percent of most shots/video image quality is the autofocus. In this price range it’s just starting to get close to 2 year old Canon’s and Sony’s. Why has Nikon not been able to put digital hot shoes on any of there full frame cameras when other brands have had for years. No shutter cover ?
Bottom line- You don't have a clue. Just keep shooting your sony. 😂
@@jbilly24 5 other brands of cameras have had digiital hot shoes for years - Nikon hasn’t figured out how to put them on any of their cameras ? No sensor cover on a brand new $2000+ interchangeable lens camera (you’ll keep your repair shop in business). Nikons were great. 10 years ago. Lol. 😂
Low light performance compared to z6 and z8
Camera updates have gotten pretty boring over the years. Please give me a Zf with a top-in-class viewfinder for manual focusing, the 45mpx sensor from Z7, and well-built metal lenses like those for Fuji X system. I would drop Leica for that camera.
You've basically described D850 :))))

@@antonvoloshin9833Except an OVF without a focusing screen replacement, and no IBIS, don't lead to the best manual focus experience.
@@aloi Well, I guess it's a question of habit and practice, more so DSLR's usually have some MF helper, and I believe modern ones have LV with focusing help too. I wouldn't mind magnifying eyepiece sure, but Nikon doesn't make them anymore :(
IBIS is a nice thing to have regardless whether you use MF or AF, yet with really good sensor with good high ISO performance I don't think it's a must, especially for stills.
I don’t own a ZF because it doesn’t have this EVF
It seems to me the Nikon ZF is the best bang for buck for stills. No?
For video the non redundant recording to both cards is still saying: do not use NIKON for pro video applications. Anyone agrees?
For stills the original Z6 is best bang for our buck if you're not needing auto eye tracking for sorts or wildlife. Nikon has been perfect for pro video since the Z9 was released.
@@SimonBurnCreative True, I meant in the 2k range.
IMO For stills you can just buy an old DSLR and a bunch of vintage lenses, and you'll be absolutely golden in terms of "bang for buck" because the whole kit will most probably be cheaper, than one Z-mount lens.
C6? Isn’t it a Z6?😊
let's stop the bullshit with the 24mpx thing being a limitation. it's a huge upside not a limitation.
One of the main reasons i still keep a d4s is it's 16mpx.
i do stills, i want my camera to have ridiculously high ISO performance. Nothing comes close to the z6ii in that regard (it's 1 stop better than the mighty d4s) , so i m sure the z6iii will be unreal as well.
different needs for different people.
if i want a high megapixel camera i m not gonna get a 33mpx camera, that would be just dumb.
so as always getting a d800 and a d3s made a ton of sense in 2012, now having a low megapixel terrific camera and a high megapixel one makes a ton of sense. i have a z6ii and a gfx, i'm happy like a pig in shit.
It's nowhere near an upside, what are you on about? For example, wild-life photographers absolutely crop, so do landscape photographers, and sports. The more MP, the more crop potential, the less wasted shots. You don't need to justify the lower resolution when the rest of the camera is great.
