- A former police chief is weighing in on the Gabby Petito case, calling the events leading up to the discovery of human remains in a Florida reserve Wednesday, along with items belonging to Brian Laundrie, "quite strange."
Former NYPD Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce joined Eyewitness News to discuss his observations after the FBI unraveled new details in the case, including the discovery of remains and a backpack and notebook belonging to Laundrie.
Among his questions is just how Brian Laundrie's parents fit into his disappearance and what exactly they know.

The fact that the parents can sniff out a dead body that the trained dogs couldn't is giving me migraines🙄 something smells fishy🤦♀️

I wouldn't believe the Laundries even if they ever told the truth.
Of course they new....he might still be alive if they had been helpful. I lost a child and the pain and agony is unbearable. Through this whole time looking for him, I believe they knew where he was. How can you sit back and be silent and wait for your child to die...they had to be pretty sure he was deceased when they went to the park that day. They need a lot of prayers for forgiveness.
Strange how the parents knew exactly where the mustang was and went straight to it, then 5 weeks later they knew exactly where Brian’s remains & backpack were, and went straight to them yesterday, yet, for the 5 weeks in between they remained silent, mowed their lawn, went shopping, met with their lawyer, ignored desperate pleas from the Petito’s and the public and sat and watched the FBI spend $millions searching in the wrong place……
i just wrote exactly that above... i am pretty sure there will be something later on that comes to light..

Yes. They are so, so credible, these parents.
And they haven't showed any emotions. If I thought they found my missing son dead I'd have a breakdown right there. Strange
I will say that I understand it would have been hard for them to "live a normal life" and go out and search for him, and go out to the store and buy dinner, etc... it would be very difficult for them to be able to do anything normal. Even grieve in public. But I will also say that they brought a lot of that upon themselves... bad choices... ghosting Gabby's family. Not turning their son in when they had ample opportunity. The Laundrie’s attorney is completely wrong and he and the parents should be arrested! They knew where Brian was but said nothing until they made a deal with the FBI. Where’s the empathy for the Petito family and for Gabby. They all have anger issues and not surprising they are such good friends. Sick and need arrested!!
No, Brian's head was found in the area where the Laundries asked the police to search when they reported him missing.
How in the world did his perfectly intact 2 months ago body turn into dilapidated skeletal remains found in the woods?? Make it make sense! It takes sometimes years for bodies to be stripped like that! Either that's not his skeleton, or there's a huge part of this story missing.
His parents are more of Sociopaths than he is. Omg..
The parents stink. Their behaviour is despicable towards the victim and her family. Callous.
Complicit. Hard hearted. I can’t believe they are innocent. Poor wee lass 😥
They aren't innocent.
@@augustrosepriv892. exactly I think they helped him fake his death.
I find it odd that they find the body then say dental records identification was already done within hours.
*So the parents bring investigators to where Brian’s belongings and later his remains happen to be but in September they knew that Brian left their home allegedly on a Tuesday but didn’t inform authorities until that Friday?!*
*Were the parents giving Brian enough time to allude capture and commit suicide instead of facing possible murder charges?! And didn’t Brian unlawfully use Gabby’s credit to return to Florida WITHOUT HER⁉️*
It was really strange the way everything played out today....
He and everybody else. The notebook was dry and way too sketchy. There better be 3/4 of a body and mouthful of teeth.
The laundries must think we are all way too stupid to figure out the truth.
They'll DNA test it; don't need much.
How do you know the notebook was dry? Did they show it? That’s interesting
You never heard of DNA huh?🤣
What if they kie about the DNA also?
I heard the notebook was found in a dry sack…a common item used in kayaking and camping. It’s water tight.
Robert Boyce is right, the Laundries Attorney admitted he gave the cops a head up, what he said without saying he did was....snitch, he ratted out his clients, he said it was for their protection, he's just trying to back out of the case carefully as cooperating (Bertolino)
UPDATE: Bones found are Brian's.
Former FBI agent suggested that the ONE day the park opened to the public, someone saw something and called the Laundries, thereby leading them to want to go and look.
I really hope the parents don’t try and “fake” his death so he can secretly use someone else identity 🧐. 💚
Yes, this can happen
@@denitajohnson5887 breaks my heart that it’s a possibility, smh that’s just a shame. 💚
Well DNA will show of it's Brian or not but this can certainly buy Brian time. Giving him the chance to get farther away.
Go ahead let him if he’s that dumb. The U.S. will catch him.
Fake his death? The question is who did they murder and throw into the water to pretend it was their baby boy.
The law should hire Chris laundrie for their team he's much better than any cadaver dog 🤔 🐂💩

And the fbi and dog the bounty hunter 🥴
he is also self-serving and full of BS

Great comment
Brian's parents' lawyer called FBI and News to tell that parents were going or went to park at 7am yesterday to "look for the body" - comes from another news report site.
You can only imagine all the good things Gabby would have done in her life. We lost a real jewel.
Hello Patty
I'm so glad you brought this up. I'm sorry but no one found anything for over a month and the parents come out and just"find" items that dogs and FBI couldn't locate. I just don't understand why law enforcement seems to be oblivious
The parents might have faked it
Freemasonry in the mix , How many years did the mum have working in the system , to compile stuff on other cops n lawyers , .Brian's lawyer? 25 yrs of knowing the parents ,Hmmm who owes who?

Watch the police press conference. The area was under water and too dangerous to search until recently. They searched and found his head and a couple of belongings in the area he was hiking. How is that mysterious?
He was never a "survivalist" he was just a simple backpacker.
He is a survivalist now.
They gave him too much credit
No he wasn't even a backpacker just a COWARD.
He was a wannabe survivalist....it didn't work out. And i'm sorry,but I'm glad he's gone. What a coward though!!!!!
@@earthmother4397 eeeerrrrrrrm, he ain't survivin' nowhere........unless my friend.....I don't know it's so odd
I nailed it right from the 1st day. I wrote that no naturalist could survive in that environment. Not that I gave my credence to their claim about his abilities. I wrote that if he was in there that he would be eaten by an alligator, or injured enough by other animals living in there that it would cause his death. Every person who had an idea, my scenario was never echoed. The parents of Brian need to be brought to justice as well. Now way they could of walked up to that area without prior knowledge. Also pretty dumb of them to not even take this case to court. If O.J. got off, come on, Brian at least had a chance to get a reduced or not sentence at all. But noooo, they let him run away into a environment that was hostile to humans. Going to be hard to get on with there normal life after the way they played this out.
How the parents knew exactly where to find remains 🤔🤔🤔 in less than a week. But everyone else took months
For someone who supposedly "knows" how to survive, his remains? For parents to go exactly to that location, I'm getting a headache lol
He new how to survive on chocolate bars in the wild….when the chocolate ran out he was doomed!!!!
Me, Nauseous.
Yep
"Knowing how to survive" is relative. It doesn't mean he knows how to survive for weeks on end in a flooded, gator-infested swamp.
And it doesn't mean he didn't commit suicide when he got there, which is another possibility.
Personally, I think he was probably communicating with his parents for at least a couple of weeks before he died.
@@thecarpetman7687 🤣🍫😵💫☠️
How absolutely convenient that the "remains" were found by *Brian's parents* in an area that, until recently, were *under water*. The *investigative chops* on the Laundrie's are amazing! That or they got tired of waiting for the search teams/FBI to discover the "remains" and decided to lead them there by the nose.
These are the same people who didn't report Gabby missing for over a week after Brian's return, snuck him out in their camper, helped him hide, fetched the car from an area opposite of the "remains" location, and stone walled law enforcement & the Petito family all to help buy him more time to get away. Never underestimate the lengths parents will go to in order to protect their child, imo.
I hope they're fast tracking the DNA and making no assumptions! Has the family already provided the comparison samples or will they try to fight that in court?
For at least a week, no one will be looking for Brian while the DNA is run. What a wonderful time to go to a non-extradition country! 🙂
Edit: typo
The parents did not find the Skeletal Remains
@Truth Seeker well they probably knew the area that he liked , remember he was their son & they’ve known him better than anyone .. it was probably his favorite camping spot or something.. He was dead soon after he got there so I don’t think he was communicating with them or anything
@Truth Seeker & remember they told the police & FBI to look in the same spot many times .. but since the area was under water they did not find him then
It's a coverup just like Oswald was framed for killing President Kennedy. I don't think for one minute that BL is dead..even if it is reported that it's BL bones...it's a buy off..a favor owed
Yeah, & the cops keep botching the case 🤔 ...I think Chris killed Brian, or it's just not Brian at all. And then a gun is found at Fort De Soto...the Laundrie's have help from LE or FBI. There's no other reason as to why things are the way they are 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
I feel like Brian thought he could live himself after what he'd done and it turns out he couldn't
The more I watch Chris & Roberta, the more i see how Brian was very obviously raised by them.
They’re satanic demons………
Coincidence requires planning. The three day camping trip was a planning event.
Yes. I've been thinking that, also. I think they went out "camping" to plan his death. That's why the parents have been quiet. They knew all along the whole situation and dealing with (eventually) the death of their son.
Yes away from.the home that was being watched.
Exactly.. This whole thing is so crazy from the beginning..this laundry family behaviour..liars... And after sometime they will tell they found a note saying that " I didn't kill Gabby "in the book . So he was an innocent poor guy 😜

@@sihelisahansa8376 I think same, in his diary they’ll find some made up story about her death and poor Brian who couldn’t come back and live with this sad truth. How incredibly convenient that it wasn't until the parents joined the search that evidence of Brian was found in the swamp that had been thoroughly searched over and over again. It's almost UNbelievable!
many seem to not be getting all the information. Not sure where you are looking but you can't be looking hard enough because it's all out there. The Laundrie's attorney contacted one of the local news stations about this today. This part of the park has been underwater since mid-September and was just opened yesterday which is when Brian's parents contacted the FBI letting them know that they were going to search this area now and that the FBI/authorities met the Laundrie's at the park to begin the search where the parents told the FBI at the beginning this is where Brian went and where his Mustang was found a couple of days after he went missing.
@@kawikajones9436 riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight

@@kawikajones9436 but how and why did they know to look THERE? Been underwater since mid September, when did Brian flee? He was seen on the 17th hopping the fence
@@bulletsfordinner8307 no proof that was him on the 17th. The parents told police/FBI to look in that area when they first reported him missing( I do believe 1 or 2 days after he left). Tough to look in swampy area. Brian went on his hike Sept 13th.
QUESTION(S): Isn't it one thing to keep a lawyer on retainer for 20+ years, and another to be long time family friends? On another interveiw Bertolino states he exclusivly has been close friends with Chris for 25+ years. Doesn't this create a conflict of intrest due to the personal/emotional investment between attorney and client(s)?
i guess that's florida for you, lots of effed up people live there, i hear, many above the law
They need to find the phone because there was a time when he switched off his comment section in instagram and then switched it on again. The remains couldn't have been lying there for a month, could it? Who had his phone then?
In reality the remains aren't necessarily his. Other remains have been found during this search. The bag and notebook could well have been a plant.
It's a decoy, you think? 😲
It's definitely his remains because a DNA test confirmed it (which is always done when human remains are found so if his belongings were planted it would have useless because DNA would have revealed that the remains found were someone else's). For it to not be him, he would have had to have an identical twin because only identical twins have the exact same DNA.

This is too strange, too mind boggling. I don't believe in coincidence. I can see the laundries walking away from this. That's what happens when you have powerful connections. Poor gabby.

Powerful Connection?

Yep. Wouldn’t be surprised if they walk. Even if brain get caught in year or years or whenever.
If I were the Laundries when things are settled, I would sue so many people for defamation and harassment.
The slander of the Laundries on here is sad. The Laundries cooperated with the FBI. The place where they found their son was exactly where they told the FBI to begin their search a month ago. But when the FBI arrived there it was covered by water. This explains why the parents acted so weird. They were not being conspiratorial. They knew where their son went and suspected he had committed suicide. And they did the right thing sending the FBI to the spot. But the FBI couldn't find his remains underwater. And without a body, even the Laundries had no explanation for what happened to him. But as they live near to the reserve and knew the water had receded they went back again... with the FBI. And they found Brian where they thought he might have been all along. The parents are being unduly slandered by commenters. They DID cooperate with law enforcement and probably hoped police or the FBI would find their son's remains so they wouldn't need to. But the FBI failed. The police failed. And the cadaver dogs failed. Because moving water on a swampy flood plain will hide a body well. All the experts crying that the cadaver dogs can smell through water. Such experts. No. Actually, unlike the movies, sometimes they can't. This family had a son who went bad. True, they enabled his ridiculous relationship with Gabby, who was an emotional child like Brian. But it's wrong to keep pretending the Laundrie parents were helping their son run. No, they knew he was probably dead, told the FBI where to look and the FBI botched it.
Very odd how it all transpired. All of a sudden the Laundries call their lawyer to arrange to go search the area, and magically they know exactly where to look. Surprise surprise, there is the white bag, which Chris Laundrie picks up (he claimed) so the media photographers wouldn't get it. There is also Brian's notebook and nearby, law enforcement searchers locate partial remains, close to Brian's backpack. So, do the Laundries have ESP?
"Quite strange" doesn't come close to what the rest of the world is thinking.....
that's because most of the world(to include this former NYPD police chief) doesn't have the information that was put out because they are too lazy to do a little internet checking of local news station live broadcasts about this that explains the whys?

They immediately find a notebook and backpack… that’s like finding a needle in a haystack! It was planted. The remains… I don’t think they are BL. I’m afraid it’s another victim of his, he had to buy time. Or… his parents helped him buy more time. They surely haven’t been worried about him!!!

Great reporting and interview with the Chief.
Everything about this is strange ...parents finding backpack , skeletal remains(knew right where to look) . Let's not even mention the hand in the garden and the odd new hobby of gardening with no tools, no seeds no plants, an exchange .. perhaps Brian is alive and possibly removed body parts the parents placed at the scene. Why not? This is bizarre.

This find right after Brian's father called the FBI that he was going to search at the Carlton reserve smells quite fishy to me. For all we know Brian Laundrie could be cooling off somewhere laughing his head off for outsmarting the Police and FBI. It would really surprise me if the remains turn out to actually belong to Brian.
The whole scenario is just too convenient to be believed.
On the other hand, if it turns out to be Brian's, theen the parents must have known for quite some time and were just playing both the public and law enforcement.
Giving their antecedents, they're capable of doing that too

I think it makes more sense that the Laundrie's didn't know the full extent of what happened in Wyoming. Lawyered up, and knew precisely where Brian was. After more than a month of him being missing, I think their fear of him having killed himself became very real and they finally decided to check the one spot they didn't that they knew he'd probably be.
