  • Future generations deserve a liveable planet. Scientists are predicting that by 2050 we’ll have more plastic in the ocean than fish, so it’s so important that we find more sustainable ways to commemorate significant events that will look after the planet for future generations.
Helium balloons can quickly travel hundreds of kilometres, winding up as litter along our beaches and in our oceans. Too many native animals are killed each year as a direct result of balloon debris - with some animals becoming entangled in strings tied to the balloons, while others including sea birds and turtles mistake the balloons for jellyfish and eat them.
The Greens bill to ban the release of helium balloons will help protect our environment and our precious native animals.
