  • It's not hard to see why the Accord sells so well, it's well priced, fun to drive, reliable, efficient, and now it's also well equipped if you select the new HondaSensing package of safety systems. But does that allow the Accord to stay on top? Let's find out.

    In 1985 I bought a new accord for a little over 11.000.00 dollars….and even back then it was a an amazing car for the day. 34mpg on the Hwy, a little under powered, but a great car.

    Great review. My wife and I have been test driving cars in this segment. Our favorite two were the Accord and Mazda 6. It was very close, but we chose the Accord. The black leather interior on the EX-L is super nice.

      This is probably really late lol, but my parents have had a 2014 Accord EX (with the 4 cyl. and CVT) and it has plenty of pep. Not to mention the fact that Brian Cooley thought it was a 6 the first time he drove it ...

    • @Gur814
      @Gur814 Před 4 lety

      @mike E Your comment is the first I've heard about this. Pretty concerning, but we haven't had any issues with ours at all. Just had its second oil change last week. It's been a completely problem free car, mechanically speaking. Ours is fairly low mileage still though. A little over 20,000 miles.
      Also, sorry for missing your comment 3 years ago, Austin. Never got a notification for it. ☹️ We've been very happy with it so far. It has plenty of power for a family sedan. More than I was expecting. But is by no means a performance car.
      It has a small wind noise on the driver's window when above 45mph. Dealer improved it but couldn't fix all the way. Not a big deal, I barely notice it anymore. It also has 3 minor interior rattles. Those are expected after a few years, especially on the poor roads near our house.

    Bought a 2016 3 weeks ago. 6 cylinder EXL and just love it. Years ago had a 1988 civic, which kept me from taking any Honda for a test drive, but once I did, no reason to drive anything else for me.

    Maybe I missed it, but I'll mention that my EX-L came with remote start (you Westies probably don't care but it's a requirement in the cold, cold winters in the Midwest). I also got the V6 which makes this "family" car quite a little hot rod and puts a smile on your face. Loved your videos since the early days (before the name change).

    Having owed the Touring version of the Accord Hybrid now for about a year and a half I can say we love it. Sure it gets great mileage but it's the very linear pull from the engine/motor combo that appeals so much. It's quiet inside, has a sporty feel with great visibility all around. I'm 6'8" and with the driver's seat all the way back we still sit adults behind me. A downside to the Hybrid is the reduced truck space but it's been fine for us. Sad to hear it's taking a break for '16 but I had also heard that its production was being moved to Japan. Hopefully it makes a return so that more people can enjoy the fine car that it is.

    Great review Alex; If there's one thing not addressed is Honda's decision to use same wheels on a touring and sports models. As a current touring owner I'm puzzled as why they would use same wheels, not include wireless charger as in Canadian mode being there's a great price of almost 10K. I did however test drove Camery, Sonata, Audi, Cadillac and MBZ. Over all I ended up buying the Accord as it gave more bang for the buck. As as for Honda sensing,,, I myself don't feel there's any difference than in normal drive mode. I'm also puzzled they didn't include a simple 3.5 MP 3 input in touring model but do in lower end.

    Both optima and sonata has steering drifting safety issue and requires driver's constant correction since 2013 model that the manufacturer is not prepared to answer. We will see more and more electronically related issues like this in the future now that everyone is moving to drive by wire system.

      @ibmtpx24 Před 8 lety +1

      +jorge romani Check out the complaints on NHTSA for the 2015 Optima, 9 out of 17 are steering related:
      www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/owners/SearchResults?prodType=V&searchType=PROD&targetCategory=A&searchCriteria.model=OPTIMA&stats=1978675%2C0%2C0%2C17%2C3%2COPTIMA&makeStats=&jsonBaseURL=%2Fdownloads%2Ffolders%2F&searchCriteria.model_yr=2015&searchCriteria.make=KIA&searchCriteria.prod_ids=1978675
      We can debate if 9 complaints out of the sales numbers is statistically significant, but the fact that half total complaints for 2015 model are steering related says something. If this issue was seen in 2011 that means there are at least four years of history that this safety related issue is not being answered or recalled.
      I think KIA and Hyundai mid size cars are good value and they provide good warranty but I would not put them on my shopping list knowing they have safety concerns which is not addressed by the manufacturer.

    I need facts from some Accord owners. I'm torn between the Accord I4 or the V6. I really want the V6 but I don't want to sacrifice gas mileage just for power. I want the V6 because of the LED Headlights. I currently drive a 99 Toyota Camry and my gas mileage estimates are 23/29. (I get really good gas mileage, in my opinion, and from my experience. My car is a 4 cylinder.) I realized if I get the Accord V6 I would still get better gas mileage than my current car, since the Accord V6 advertises 21/32, and sometimes 21/34. The only problem is, a friend of mine drives an accord 4 cylinder and she said she's actually getting Accord V6 mileage. She's averaging low 20s in the city and high 20s/low 30s on the highway. I'm sure this is because of how she drives and other conditions. I realize that if this is true and I buy a V6, there's a huge chance I will get even worse gas mileage. I don't want to buy the V6 and regret it. So, what mileage is everyone actually getting with their 4 cylinder Accords or V6 Accords?

    • @PLATINUM2U
      @PLATINUM2U Před 7 lety +2

      Get the V6! Although the 4 cyln and the V6 look the same, they are 2 complete different cars is terms of driving, handling, breaking etc. With the V6 you get fast acceleration, decent torque, precise steering. And yeah the 4 cyln is more economic but not by that much. The lower mpg numbers compensate for a much better driving experience, very comparable to much more expensive premiun cars.

    Hi! I'm shopping for my first car. Im 17 and I want something that is classy and restrained. This is my favorite looking midsize sedan. In my opinion, the Passat, Accord and Altima are the best looking sedans available in the class. Which of these 3 would you recommend? Other options? I don't like the way the Mazda 6 or Ford Fusion look but I would be open to other options. Thanks

    Did the sample you drove have the two-valve dampers that heretofore were on HA- Hybrids? Wondering if those and other possible suspension changes have made the Accord significantly better as far as ride over the previous model. Also, if I am correct, the new car doesn't offer any blind-spot monitoring other than the right-side camera.

      +Ronald Coniglio those dampers are only available on the top of the line Touring model. They work but the problem is the Touring has the low profile tires so this alone introduces a lot of harshness in the ride. Real world usage isn't reported to be that much better, although you could easily opt to mount higher profile tires that could give you a much better ride.

    Alex, an excellent review -- as always. A few things. Like you, I find the new front grill a bit more likable in person, but it's just too close to the Acura "beak" for me to really like. Second, how would you rank the new Accord vis-a-vis the Mazda 6? Finally, I'd be very interested in a Touring version with the 4 cylinder engine; any idea whether that will be offered?
    Thanks again.

      +Jim MacMurdo If I may throw in my personal opinion, the 2016 Mazda 6 is a piece of art. While it may not by Toyota/Honda-level reliable, it looks great, handles better, and feels much higher-end inside than nearly any other vehicle in its price range.

      Hi Jim, The Touring trim is only offered with a 4 cylinder in Canada (etc.). In the USA, the only engine at this time for the 2016 is a V6. My Touring is supposed to arrive this week and the V6 is really peppy compared to the 4 cylinder. Also the V6 gets just 3 miles less on the Hwy with it's Variable Cylinder Management. To be honest though, it's 51/49 for me and I would get the 4 cylinder engine if the USA had it - but the nicer/plusher features make it all OK. :-)

      Don't go with the optima please, if u buy it, it'll be a huge problem, 2016 ones spare parts (genuine) are hard to get and that car has many complaints.

  • @MrKikoboy
    @MrKikoboy Před 8 lety +1

    Seems like with the bigger and nicer 2016 Civic they could lose some of their Accord sales....especially since that turbo is basically the same HP as the base 2.4 but with ( supposedly) better fuel economy...
