20 YEAR SKETCHBOOK TOUR | Childhood - Art School - Animation Career
Vložit
- čas přidán 14. 08. 2024
- I've been drawing for a long time. And as a result, I've gone through a lot of sketchbooks in the last 20 years. A couple weeks ago, I was helping my parents clean out their storage room and I found all my old sketchbooks that I filled through my childhood to art and animation school and as I was writing my book series and starting my career in animation.
Touring through all these sketchbooks, you can see my artistic evolution and see the progress I made during different stages of my art career.
Through my whole art journey you can see that I've always loved drawing superheroes and monsters. You can also see the most important time period for my drawing evolution. Just as I was fighting my way into animation school courses, I took a bunch of online classes for anatomy by Neil Fontaine over on Udemy. Here is a link to his courses:
www.udemy.com/...
I did eventually get into animation classes at Concordia University where I really started to hone my drawing skills!
I hope you enjoy this sketchbook tour! Sorry that the quality dips near the end, there was a camera issue that I couldn't fix in editing.
Also as mentioned my favourite youtuber is Mr Sunday Movies! Here is his channel / mrsundaymovies

Your drawings are so good that a drawing a month earlier pails in comparison to your latest. You are on a role and are a big inspiration to me. I love your videos and I hope you could eventually post daily and make a podcast.
InstaBlaster.
5 year old you has better hand writing then 13 year old me

Why did everyone had so many sketchbooks when they where young, so organised, I used to draw everywhere I found...
Hahahaha I did that too, lota lost art, but I also just loved buying a new sketchbook XP Even when I wouldn't have finished my last one
I drew on the living room wall with a crayon and I drew on my dashboard with sharpie and I also drew on my self with a sharpie it didn't come off until I was 7

Love your videos and drawings !!!!!!! And Your Art is Super Good :)
Draw the crusaders
I started drawing comics since I was 10 now I'm 14 it took me a while to get down the fundamentals of art now I'm progressing more than I expected!😀
you got an art channel?
@@LeCedric Nah but I still be drawing every now and then.
This was so cool seeing your previous art and your progress!
Agreed
kewl
......
1:57, I feel ya bro. Those days when you have much time to spare.
In the words of Eric Thomas: "Practice doesn't make perfect. Practice makes permanence." Seeing all your sketchbooks and your evolution from age 5 to now is truly amazing. I'm more of a writer and storyteller but after watching your videos I actually want to give drawing another go. Also, I like using tech but I still love using pen/pencil and paper so I might need a bunch of notebooks 😁
Just posted a vid trying to do ALLL of Inktober 2019 in 1 day. Finally went back to traditional art. Check 'er out here! czcams.com/video/Xyq5Sb04N6A/video.html

Wonderful progress and it shows anyone can get great at art if they try hard enough
I love the growth being laid out that way. I also find it funny how so many of us creatives are so unorganized and bounce around from this to that so often. My sketchbooks mirror that same a appearance of being a little here and a little there. I use your youtube channel and art with my junior high art class and my kids and I just want to say thank you for creating such fun and very cool art into the world.
This is such a chilling and authentic channel, thank you! keep it man, you deserve way more attention, but I'm sure it will come
Thank you so much!!! I’m making an effort to not ‘act’ much even on occasions when I have to script things. Glad you enjoy it and I’ll keep the vids coming!!! 😁😁😁
18:34 the building looks exactly like the one on American Horror Story Apocalypse!!!
Faxxxxx
Yes you should make a redraw episode for that i think that will be amazing!
Wow, your improvement is really impressive ! Great video as always !
Thanks!!! :D
thank you for another great video, I am working on a zhc style superman piece I will show you when I'm done
TJ Wilson ooooh! Awesome, I’m excited to see it!!!
anybody notice how “the kid” kinda looks like ben 10
I love when people show how they started, its humble and sweet. You earned a subscriber here
don't have any drawing saved up from when i was a kid. got a few from high school assignments and such tho. at the time i wasn't good at anatomy and perspective but given any description/story, i could bring it to life so i was kinda more creative back then.
Amazing art might i say man! To see how you came to be what you are today is absurd!
Every art channel I watch always mentions Chris Hart's How to draw Manga. I can't escape it. This book still haunts me to this day
I really liked drawing when I was younger and want to get back into it so this was pretty neat. I found all these sketch books from my early to mid 20s than I filled up while I was experimenting with psychedelics. Page after page of really weird creatures, cityscapes, and inanimate objects that feels like a trip in itself as I'm trying to understand the angles and dimensions I was trying to convey. There's a hobo looking dude that shows up a lot, usually peeking out from behind some obscure shape and wearing a whistling snail on his head emitting little musical notes. Haha, anyway... thanks for this vid!
Every time I watch ur vids I look at ur sub count and it always gets higher good job keep it up
This comment makes me subscribe
You draw as 7 year old kid better than me now!
Huh, Udemy actually works? Their ads always felt so annoying so I never tried them
Tobi-Wan Animations I always would have agreed, but I bought a course called Character Art School, and it has been amazing! Would recommend! There are actually some useful courses on Udemy!
It’s so sweet that you still have your childhood sketchbooks. This was a fun video! I don’t have any of my work from being little, but I have it in my head!
My daughter has drawn passionately since age 3 and is 9 now, I have all of her work in sketchbooks! My son is 6 and has only been interested in drawing for the last year but his work kills me. It is the most amazing thing to inside a child’s head through their art!!
I love this! I found it when searching for a way to help my kids keep their art organized and that we could go see their growth. Thinking of buying them a yearly sketchbook! Thanks for sharing this is so cool 😊
really cool to see the progress you made through the years.
You should get more subs than these you deserve more subs
Navi Padda thanks so much!!! 😁😁
Thanks for sharing man! It's good to go back in time to avoid mistakes you made way back then 😃
It’s Nice to see pro artists show their older, middle school art cuz it helps me feel like all hope it’s lost when it comes with my drawings
5:17 bottom right ooooh
Yes, I would love to see that
10:36 Red Hood and the Outlaws! My favorite comic series!!
Holly crown my friend, u are at 19 k (remember me)
This was the most enjoyable sketchbook video I've watched ever most other people start off showing off there stuff when they were in like high school and draw amazingly it's nice to actually see some of your childhood drawings
I am not going to liewhen I saw that your sketchbook covers were not covered with stickers and a bunch of other cute stuff I nearly freaked out!!! I'm not the only one that doesn't feel the need to decorate the front of my sketchbook and immensely!
9:05 omg! I remember we had to draw that when I was in 9th grade! (Last year ) 😂
I watch a lot of art channel’s but your channel has inspired me the most
This makes me happy as I'm about the right skill set to match his drawings from when he was 5
9:05 my art teacher also made me draw that but I didn't finish it
Like the thing is...this guy never tried to be anyone else,he just found his style and improved on it and he doesn't compare his art to anyone else's. I love that. That's why even tho he wasn't really the best traditionally, he still ended up becoming professional. To be honest, this just shows people shouldn't always crap on their art, if you practice, you'll progress. Peace ✌🏾
How can a 5 year old be this talented
I’ve been a huge fan of your work and I hope when I’m done my drawings I could send one or two of them to you
PopCross: AND THEN THE KIDS FAMILY DIES
My Mom: Well, That's graphic ;-;
That happens in Finding Nemo though
My art progress
2007=circle
2019=stickman
seems about right, wonders why I have seen this specific comment text like in everywhere art tutorial
I've noticed with my own sketchbooks that I rarely finished one before going on to others. Some of my books have art ranging from middle school to senior year because they were used at random time intervals over the years.
I draw that too at 9:05 four weeks ago I’m also in 9th grade
character: has megical new hand thing+magical gems
me: *thanos*
props on having some books out there. I wish more books had art. thats why i like japanese light novels and warhammer 40k novels.
Love to see some redraws
i keep all my artwork too, from childhood till now, and sometimes i show them to my kids to encorauge them to be creative
Me 2010: hmm my art is not bad!
Me 2019 look at that picture that I drew 9 years ago and compare to the the one I just drew: oh it's not improving!
Me after seeing the very first drawing of this video:
Why didn't I thought of making it before
That was a very good art journey!!
Glad that its pretty much guaranteed that you're gonna redraw some of your old characters. It should be interesting
I would love to see you draw these again
Amazing video, I love seeing sketchbook videos and how the artist has improved, would love to see more if you have any👍🏻. Also you should definitely do a video of you redrawing some of your old art work that would be awesome!!
I really hope that if I continue drawing in twenty years I will go through my childhood drawings
Love your channel been there since the start its grown so much
wow ...all that works over the years :) I bet you feel a certain sense of nostalgic when going through them :)
Can you make a tutorial of how to get better at drawing?
Bruh that’s a power ranger the guy with the “health symbol on his chest”
This is more interesting than my homework
Ha LOL 😂🤣
Please sub my channel please help
I only started getting good in may of this year. I'm 15. Your drawings at age 5 looked better than mine at age 13.
Do you have Instagram love to see your art
@@acgraphics1139 yeah its shiny_shiny_midas
@@erinfleming5643 I'm bumblebeearts15
The video is kinda helpful since I want to be come an animator or just a normal illustrator. My art style has improved even though taking a lot of time. Very good vid keep it up mate.
27:24 wow! these two drawing with the monster shark work really well compared to what you did back then
8:07 i did something similar to that once. It was during a performing arts (I’m shortening it to pa) class and i think i had just used up my all the pages in my pa book so i needed a new one. I wrote my name (I’m jasper btw) and the subject and I thought that was all good. Until my friend pointed out that I instead wrote “japa” on the front page. So in response we took that name, made it jappa with two p’s instead, and it became my nickname to this day.
11:58 aaaaand ima gonna steal some of those poses, thank you.
I found this video really inspiring, love your art
3:37 that drawing of carnage in my opinion was one of the better old drawings in the video
woaw i can totally relate with your very first drawings
I think i might actually do this, pull out everything and show a progression of my drawing. And then have the fun task of redrawing a character or two :P
You have an awesome drawing ✍️
When i was a kid i cant even draw a stickman XD
You really got me back into drawing again
You really did
Love your videos and drawings !!!!!!!
13:18 those looked like thumbnail sketches from a CZcamsr named Koizu. I think it was the video called how to draw fight scenes. I used to watch him too 😄
I need to start working on the animation industry soon in Los Angeles soon, ether this summer or fall.
First, I'll student animated films there which are scheduled to release this summer or fall.
10:40 I'm glad I draw way better than that I learned to use visulastion early and I'm only 16 took me a few months to nearly master it I still need to morph buildings with it.
Mark Bagley is my favorite spidey artist too I've interested his style and my own to make a sick style
Love the Mr. Sunday movies drawing
That would be dope, I was thinking of doing the same thing with some of my old work!
I would LOVE to se you re done some of your favourite drawings from back then when you were litlle! That would be so amazing
I’ve just gotten into drawing at 17. I have 3 drawings and several water color paintings :) it’s never too late to start I guess
Hey! You had mix media sketchbooks!!!!! I'm currently using mix media as my main sketchbook!!
I like that you switched your personal style, Chritian.
Subbed!!! I would love to see you redraw some old art and characters! It would be amazing to see the differences!
I know someday you will be famous sir. Keep it up!
I wood love a video of you re-draw these old drawings
Im not going to a boring art school im learning from you of al the artists on yt you are the best 1 whith creatures dragons and charters
Never, Never give-up your non-digital sketch books!
I fell out of art pretty much 20 years ago, I'm guessing I was around the same age that you are now. Wish I'd stuck with it to see where I'd be at now... always wanted to do a graphic novel.
Gonna need a redraw of The Kid real quick
Actually working on a redraw vid now... dunno if I'll do the kid... hmmmm maybe I will actually. We'll see how the vid goes!!!
how tf did u know art fundamentals when u were a kid
das jas pure talent ma dude...
9:06 did you get inspiration of Hey Jude by the beatles?
Yes I would love to see an update of the Characters
Many of them have shown up in Multiverse Tales episodes 😁 Got that as a full playlist!
Thanks your the best
I'm your biggest fan
maaaaaan im 13 and i have still alot to do to be like you but dont worry i will not give up and i will try to get better and better
Nice! Takes a lot of practice, but from seeing some of your art you're probably farther along than I was at 13!
