You got me thinking, "Huh... maybe that's why I never finish my large sketchbooks." I finish my small ones no problem, but I struggle with my large ones. Instead, my large sketchbooks that were intended for more detailed pieces become just occasional doodles and practice, and my small sketchbooks that were intended for occasional doodles and practice became detailed pieces. Anyways, great video! Super relatable

I'm so glad you're feeling more enthusiastic and happy with your new sketchbook!! I definitely think you made the right choice with starting a new one, and I think this is a sign for me as well (I've also been in like a 6 month art block which sucks)

Honestly whatever makes you happy and makes you want to draw you should just do it without explaining yourself. Buying a new sketchbook even though you haven't finished yours, getting new art supplies to spark your interests, even a change in your desk or art space will make a Huge difference. Also yesss make it a sticker 😍😍

I literally ripped half of my moleskine sketchbook and then regretted tearing all those pages off from a bound sketchbook 😭😂✨I abandon my sketchbooks too and felt guilty. But I’m glad that I’m not alone.

I love how excited you are! I think you're right that you need a small notebook for a go-to default practice. I definitely would encourage you, though, to keep the other one in mind. There may be times when you do want to do a larger piece, and #4 will still be there for you. #4.5 is clearly really important for you and I'm so glad you have it! But you might find that having #4.5 available to meet these needs will free up a part of you that sometimes also wants large format dreams.

Best sketchbook advice I ever heard is that you do not need to start at the beginning of the sketchbook, and you do not have to go front to back in order. Just open and draw.

oh man, i really agree with the 'if you have art block, maybe switch sketchbooks' thing!! a few months ago a sketchbook I had was just. so bad it prompted me into a three month long art block. only figured out it was because of the sketchbook and not anything else bc I tried using that sketchbook again (only finished half of it the first go) and the artblock hit even worse than before! :D sometimes you just need to experiment w/ ur supplies

I'm so glad you found your joy again!! If anyone deserves it, it's you. Your artwork is always so dynamic and alive.

Keep the bigger book and work in it off and on through out the year. Maybe it won’t feel so daunting. I’ve got about 7 different sketchbooks going right now. They are for different things. One of them is my ‘Big Ass Book’ it has 300 pages. My goal is to eventually fill it. I have small ones I take everywhere with me. I also have ones I use to make more complete compositions and a couple of them are very specific subjects.

what kind of varnish do you use to preserve your pages? i think i need to start doing that, my colored pencil always starts to smudge and fade

this video found me the day after i decided to go through all my abandoned sketchbooks (due to art block), take out what i like, and start a fresh sketchbook <3 thank you so much for sharing this bit of your process, i definitely feel less alone about my sketchbook habits when things aren't flowing how i'd like

I totally get abandoning sketchbooks due to their size. My comfort size is the Moleskine A6, due to the fact that I draw so much better on a smaller canvas, and I don't have the looming pressure of 'not using the most of my potential' since a smaller size is very forgiving.

No need to stress out because you didn´t finsh a scetchbook and got a new one. It´s your art and your channel. ^^ The whole "scetchbooks need to be finished and PERFECT" is rediciolous and unhealthy.

I love your incorporation of water colours and colored pencils they blend so smoothly it almost look like markers. I can see that your favourite colour is yellow

I haven't watched the whole thing yet but I paused it to say: I have this too, sometimes something just doesn't feel right, I'll like close a movie midway through or whatever because it isn't "the right time", but then what magically happens is like, there comes a "right time" and so my whole insanity is like, justified. Honestly I wouldn't call the sketchbook abandoned, I'd just say it's resting!!! Someday your fervour and need for it will come back, and there it'll be, just waiting 🥺❤️

Love how you draw/composite/decorate your sketchbook! Your experience is so relatable. I have an A4 watercolor paper sketchbook. The paper absorbs watercolor in a weird way. I hated it, and stopped drawing for a few months because I just doesn't feel like drawing on that sketchbook. Later on I realized, I could have just bought a new sketchbook and move on! I have later bought a few and I am happy to draw again :D

I watched the video last night but forgot to comment! I LOVE how you finallyyyy broke up with your old sketchbook! Hah! Loved the spreads you did, they’re all so vibrant and your style is amazing! Welcome to the tiny Moleskin sketchbook club 😎
