    Red card was right. Although the guy did make a meal of it the laws state under the law 12 fouls and misconduct that "ANY physical or aggressive behaviour (spitting, biting, pushing, striking out) is a straight red. I agree footballers should not dive like that but the laws the law and referee has to carry them out. So stop giving grieve to the officials as without them you won't be able to play football.

  • @kensavage7657
    @kensavage7657 Před 5 lety +59

    As an referee (UK, not US), my view point is
    1. Sending off. Entirely appropriate. Opponent baited him, but that's not an offense. You are not allowed to hit, or lay hands on someone else. If you do - there's only one punishment. Ref was entirely correct in this decision.
    2. While I would have handled the red card differently (I always separate the player away from everyone else. I explain my decision, then issue any cards - removes possibility for confrontation and allows Adrenalin from incidents to subside a bit), she's entirely justified to just show the red card as she did.
    3. She loses control of the players. After the incident, she starts to get surrounded. At this point, she tries to back away - but the crowd moves with her. For me, this would not happen. In the pre-match session, Referees set out how they will referee the game. I always told the players that if I signal you to move away from me, you have 3 seconds to be gone or you will get a yellow - and I always followed through on that (once players see you do it once, they don't do it again). Also, the player with the red card - I'd have explained that if he refuses to leave the pitch, that the game will be forfeited with his team carrying the blame (normally means that team forfeits the game, gets a points penalty, often financial fine). As you can imagine, all teams hate this so captains/managers usually get that player off ASAP.
    4. When the red carded player starts walking off, then decides he wants to have more "words" with one of the players - this is absolutely unacceptable. When a referee issues any kind of card, we have to fill in a form detailing what we did, and why. (It's actually a reason that I hated having to issue cards). This incident should have been added to the report. So, what was a standard red card offense (leagues have a pre-listed penalty for red cards, often a 1/2 game ban and a fine) would now be escalated.
    5. At 01:48 - we don't see what happens afterwards, but we do see the player in white still on the pitch later in the game. That's, absolutely, a red card offense. Is the player in black holding up the game, by holding onto the ball? - yes. Do the players in white want to play the ball quickly, and is he impeding that? - yes. Is it the player in white's job to impose his own justice here? - Absolutely not. If the referee thought the player was illegal holding up the game, it's her job to decide on a punishment - not his.

      @kensavage7657 Před 5 lety +7

      Viktor K and Jason Woodward. As armchair supporters, you seem to believe that "he hardly touched him" is some kind of defense. According to the rules - I'm afraid it's not.
      How much force was appropriate here? He wasn't impeded by the dark strip player, the dark strip player was not going near him in any kind of a threatening manner. No, he merely wanted to hit him, which he did. Red card.
      If you'd like to point me to the section of the rules that shows that this kind of action was appropriate, then I'd concede the point. However, I'm required to study the rules every year - and I know the rules (and specifically, the expansion of that section, for clarification, that has been made over the past few years) and I know you won't find anything that backs up your case. You'll find full details under Law 12, if you want to look.

    Firstly as a referee assessor videos like this are good teaching tools. Firstly the red card was correct. Regardless of the conduct of another player, the second you place your hands on another player and push with that amount of force it becomes violent conduct and therefore a red card. This wasn't just a little push, the blokes legs nearly hit him in the head. Secondly the confrontation is a learning opportunity. The referee must control that better. I find by getting the yellow card out and holding it by the side of the referee and if players start approaching say things like "if you come any closer you will be cautioned", if they step closer they are shown the yellow card. Next person is then warned that they will be next. It might take one or two but it will stop.

    • @oilcitywoodworks
      @oilcitywoodworks Před 10 měsíci

      Agreed. I am a third year referee still trying to get better every day and I have realized too that needing to control the "crowd" once you make a controversial call is just as important. But then again, even when you start doing that, and heavens forbid, you give a card for reactions to your initial card, all of the sudden you are "making the game all about you." (eye roll)

    easy red card any day of the week. Could have been handled better, i personally pull the player away from everyone before i give whatever card i need to. It takes the adrenaline out a bit, and i have more time to think of my decision, which i explain to them. this also gives them no means of arguing as i quote the law.
    She loses control quickly and that isn't necessarily on her, but the idiots who kept circling around her and crowding her, more cards should have been used. In my pre game speech i have to the captains when i'm reffing NPL, NewFM or anything else where i have a game off before my center, one of my main instructions i tell them is "If you or your team has a problem with my decision, you and ONLY you are to come to me, ask me respectfully and i'll give you the answer, quote the law, give you my view and reasoning. If you come to me disrespectfully I will send you away, or card you. Remember, when me make our decisions, we need to take all emotion and discuss the considerations. If you feel you need to speak to me more about it, come to me at half time or full time and i'll give you an in depth knowledge on the law"
    at 1:48 I have no idea why that white player didn't get sent as well, yes he was trying to get the ball, but the way he did it was excessive, and as per the laws excessive force= red.
    yes the other player was holding up the ball, and delaying the restart of play. Thats a straight yellow, if you want to argue that, you really need a law book, it is literally a code in itself.
    I'm an aussie ref, not US or UK or anything like that. It's clear that she didn't have the best game, but from this video, it doesnt look like she had much of a chance

    Simply one of the worst exhibitions of refereeing ever. The atrocious dive that caused it in the first place should have been a yellow against the side in black. The cynical diving and cheating so well exemplified by the team in Black is a canker in the game today.

      You have strong opinions, but use the wrong terminology. That is not a dive! You can say it is simulation, as he exaggerates his fall, but that is up to the referee to decide and you can't see it from her angle. I would say she should have shown yellow, rather than red here, but he risks a red by pushing.

    One of the most incompotent officials I have ever seen. Lost complete control of the situations. Why the other player in white wasn't dismissed for throwing a player to the ground is beyond me?!! She didn't even react and try to calm the situation down....USELESS!!

      So, @Npn Smith, are you saying the player wasn't pushed? Whether the player who was pushed made a meal of it, id=f his opponent pushed him - straight red is not only appropriate, it is exemplary. Good for the ref.
