Just came to realization, that Naruto running is actually quite realistic, in their universe. They jump from tree to tree, meaning they should rather be considered flying than running. Spending most time midair, it’s reasonable that their posture focuses on wind resistance and the control of their balance to land with their feet where they want.

    • @marspark6351
      @marspark6351 Před rokem +4

Yah even if we ignore the fantastical element that the characters are so fast that it's best to remove air drag, I can see the stance actually being practical in real life for a variety of reasons.
But first, you have to take note that in the original naruto manga, the running stance is that you lean super low, and your arms are more or less naturally back because your upper body is so low. It's really the anime that kinda ruined this by having them not lean as much. I think it's only fair to compare with the actual author's intent. So, it's really not so much the arms that should be the focus, but how low the upper body goes.
One factor that's worth taking into consideration is that all the ninjas have a lot they are carrying around. Especially early on in the manga, they would often show with backpacks. And almost all of them tend to carry weapons around the vest and belts. If you've ever ran with a heavy backpack, you would quickly realize how hard it is to run with your backpack bouncing up and down. Instead if you lean forward and minimize the up-and-down motion in running, it gets significantly easier. Try it out yourself. Get a heavy backpack and try running while you lean forward. It is significantly easier than running body straight

The issue is the amount of time anyone has spent their life doing regular runs simply puts such a strain on trying to. Animie run that. Its never going to be relaxed enough to test. Evenly. If you grew up only ever animie running you would have muscle memory. And knowing just where back there your arms could be also neither of you had your heads down quite as far as i immagine. Really. Running ninja style would be. The test is not flawed. But. The test cant be done without a lifelong dedicated. Ninja run. Runner. Not. A champ but relaxed. @marspark6351 Před rokem +10

I know this is a year old but there is a few variables that I think are not taken into account (in general).
First, they are both professionals in terms of fitness and are taught the proper way to run, breaking from that means their brains are naturally going to fight it and get back into proper form.
Secondly, there was a legitimate style of 'ninja running' but even that had a proper form (point 1). The point of the form was not to run extremely fast, but rather run efficiently, focusing on covering vast amounts of distance as quickly as possible, as quietly as possible, with minimal drain to one's stamina.
Essentially, to compare Olympic runners to ninjas would be basically like comparing military hand to hand combat vs boxing. 2 different styles for 2 vastly different professions and purposes.

Another video says you save more energy when you anime run.
When you lean forward you would normally fall on your face due to gravity. With training, you can stop the fall with one leg and start to fall again with your center of gravity leaning forward and then transition with the next leg.
The goal is to create forward movement by using the pull of gravity and produce as little reverse directional force from the soles of your feet as forward propulsion.
When done right, your legs should be lifting off the ground with your body leaning forward like you are trying to climb a steep hill or climbing steps.
Instead of using long strides like on a horizontal surface, use small strides and lift your knees like you are climbing stairs. (How Heavy Are Your Dumbbells- episode 8)
Now take the incline plane and lay it horizontally and you can get the movement for an anime run. The mechanical energy that can be applied for walking up hill can be used horizontally.
Additionally, anime running with heavy gear like a katana around your waist is easier because there should be very little bouncing from your legs that should be creating very minimal upward propulsion. Normal running will leave your extra weight flailing around in an uncomfortable manner.

He easily and consistently outruns them even when they are trying their hardest to catch him. He moves faster than they can while he is moving his arms.
The real reason they run like that is to keep their hands free for weapons or grabbing onto things while they are running through trees. And because, and I cannot stress this enough, the biggest reason: with the amount of running they do, it's easier to animate.

Not really. Even trained from birth this technique would still suck because we're not built to run like that. You can tell because no one even considers it until they've seen a particular wank anime.

The trick is to use you arms like a race car's spoiler to create extra down-force on your feet. Loose arms will create extra turbulence behind you and mess up your stiff leaning forward torso. Breaking the sound barrier with an improperly balanced torso is an almost guaranteed face plant.

What you should do instead, is calculate the damage one step does to a similar gym floor and recreate how many steps it takes, before its smashed up like in that clip.
