Just came to realization, that Naruto running is actually quite realistic, in their universe. They jump from tree to tree, meaning they should rather be considered flying than running. Spending most time midair, it’s reasonable that their posture focuses on wind resistance and the control of their balance to land with their feet where they want.
Yah even if we ignore the fantastical element that the characters are so fast that it's best to remove air drag, I can see the stance actually being practical in real life for a variety of reasons.
But first, you have to take note that in the original naruto manga, the running stance is that you lean super low, and your arms are more or less naturally back because your upper body is so low. It's really the anime that kinda ruined this by having them not lean as much. I think it's only fair to compare with the actual author's intent. So, it's really not so much the arms that should be the focus, but how low the upper body goes.
One factor that's worth taking into consideration is that all the ninjas have a lot they are carrying around. Especially early on in the manga, they would often show with backpacks. And almost all of them tend to carry weapons around the vest and belts. If you've ever ran with a heavy backpack, you would quickly realize how hard it is to run with your backpack bouncing up and down. Instead if you lean forward and minimize the up-and-down motion in running, it gets significantly easier. Try it out yourself. Get a heavy backpack and try running while you lean forward. It is significantly easier than running body straight

they should have an Olympic Naruto running competition
I know this is a year old but there is a few variables that I think are not taken into account (in general).
First, they are both professionals in terms of fitness and are taught the proper way to run, breaking from that means their brains are naturally going to fight it and get back into proper form.
Secondly, there was a legitimate style of 'ninja running' but even that had a proper form (point 1). The point of the form was not to run extremely fast, but rather run efficiently, focusing on covering vast amounts of distance as quickly as possible, as quietly as possible, with minimal drain to one's stamina.
Essentially, to compare Olympic runners to ninjas would be basically like comparing military hand to hand combat vs boxing. 2 different styles for 2 vastly different professions and purposes.
Millions and millions of years of evolution had lead to this, *Humanity's ultimate peak*
So basically, Mario, Luigi, Toad and Toadette are Naruto runners.

i love how the way she laughed on naruto run
I never interpreted "anime running" as a purposeful technique; I always thought it was just a representation of the fact that they're moving so fast that their arms can't fight the wind resistance and go back like a flag in the wind. It's similar to how fast or acrobatic characters are often animated with scarves or headbands so that you can track the direction of their movement more easily.
I don't think that explanation works for characters who have ridiculously high strength levels as well. But, I agree on the artistic point.
@@TerryTerius sure it does, they like the feeling of their arms flapping. anime running IS for enjoyment only. Its like clapping your hands when you're happy only your hands are behind you.
It's based on how ninjas used to run in real life. It supposedly saves energy over long distances due to not moving your arms.
@@MCSPARTAN501 Anime/ninja running was created as an animation cheat back in the early days of the Japanese animation industry. It saved time and money by not actually animating the arms and legs moving while still implying speed. The technique became so synonymous with the genre that it has stuck around to this day.
THANK YOU!! I'm disturbed by how few people actually make this point.
I think their superior speed and skill makes using arm unnecessary, and they are just letting them fall limp, and wind is what holds them back. And they are not wasting energy swinging their arms. There may also be a benefit to having their hands always "near" their kunai pouch.
"That felt fast"
"Uhuh"
i never took it that the ninjas were holding their arms back
but that they were traveling so fast
that it's easier to just let their arms flap behind them in the wind
Interesting to see an expert runner try this, the slow mo showed another factor: leaning forward and trying to bring one's leg up, the leg compresses the torso which will reduce lung capacity.
I was surprised that the gal was still on her toes for Naruto, that takes strength. She was also swinging her arms side to side which helps with balance.
Oh, and wind resistance plays no role in anything below 45mph. An olympic sprinter can't do 25mph.
I love the scenes where she's LITERALLY laughing at him.
They didn’t focus their chakra so of course there wasn’t a gain in speed.
Rosey Do you mean their Qi?
@@mschrisfrank2420 To be fair, chakra are the "organs" that facilitate the flow of qì throughout the body.
@@mschrisfrank2420 no, the ninjutsu (magic) in naruto is powered by an inner energy known as "Chakra". 🤷♂️
And is used more for balance, not a speed boost (like Jedi using The Force for a quick burst of speed)..
Chakra in the Naruto sense is a mixture of spiritual and physical energy. While the show wasn't explicitly clear on what this means, I understand it to mean combining ki with the energy used to move the body.
And ninja were taught to regulate their chakra output, not just for jutsu but also for things like walking on water.

"First *annual* Because Science Anime Running champion"?
Does that mean this event is going to happen every year?
What's the song that plays when Kyle is naruto running?
Another video says you save more energy when you anime run.
When you lean forward you would normally fall on your face due to gravity. With training, you can stop the fall with one leg and start to fall again with your center of gravity leaning forward and then transition with the next leg.
The goal is to create forward movement by using the pull of gravity and produce as little reverse directional force from the soles of your feet as forward propulsion.
When done right, your legs should be lifting off the ground with your body leaning forward like you are trying to climb a steep hill or climbing steps.
Instead of using long strides like on a horizontal surface, use small strides and lift your knees like you are climbing stairs. (How Heavy Are Your Dumbbells- episode 8)
Now take the incline plane and lay it horizontally and you can get the movement for an anime run. The mechanical energy that can be applied for walking up hill can be used horizontally.
Additionally, anime running with heavy gear like a katana around your waist is easier because there should be very little bouncing from your legs that should be creating very minimal upward propulsion. Normal running will leave your extra weight flailing around in an uncomfortable manner.

Ok. I'm going to state for the record that even in Naruto, it's faster to run while moving your arms than not. There is an episode where they are guarding a guy doing a race. He easily and consistently outruns them even when they are trying their hardest to catch him. He moves faster than they can while he is moving his arms.
The real reason they run like that is to keep their hands free for weapons or grabbing onto things while they are running through trees. And because, and I cannot stress this enough, the biggest reason: with the amount of running they do, it's easier to animate.
There is a real world reason ninja ran this way it's not just from Naruto lol they ran this way because they believed it to one be faster but also made it easier to dogde or roll from a flat out Sprint.
If that guy you said is faster than them while running normally, this doesn't mean that ninja running is slower. Maybe that guy was just faster no matter the technique. They use this running method to increase their personal speed, not to be faster than others.
@@taurus99exe that guy started out as a ninja and still chose to run the normal way when he was going full speed. He may have been faster overall but he still didn't use the ninja run to win races.
There's nothing to do with animation since the running is depicted in the manga as well. They are just animating what is in the manga
You're all wrong, the reason ninja ran this way is because they believed that running like this would make their steps more harder to hear as they were approaching the enemy
Arrow dynamic running is only useful when you run faster than the eye can see.

There is also actual historical basis for the naruto run. Not in terms of optimal speed but in other areas. The original ninja run is meant to be a quieter and drain less stamina. While being easier for people with swords or bows on their hips or in hand.
Though the anime stylisation exaggerates certain aspects to be easier to draw i expect and for cool factor
Please provide sources for those historical claims
@@Desdemona-XI i wouldn't think it would be easier. Both of them stated it drained them more than normal running. And if you are weighed down with armor and weapons, it would increase the off balance of your center of gravity, making it harder to keep up right.
Jeneba is wholesome as hell. She just seems like a nice easy going person.
LOL I Love this channel 🤣🥰
You can see that when she anime runs, her natural intuition is to move her shoulders while Kyle's shoulders are virtually still.
I thought the same thing. She swings her body and arms so much more than the anime characters. Maybe why she felt so weird while running. Upper body should be somewhat stiff, with arms back. What do I know?
I noticed that too. I'm chalking it up to power. She's probably throwing so much more oomf behind each step that it becomes virtually impossible for her torso to remain stiff.
I agree with nolan on this one, she needs to counter balance because every step is so powerful.
I think she actually did better though. Kyle's arms are stiff as fuck. Her arms where loose like the ninjas actually do in Naruto.
Shes a gold medalist, probably spent thousands of hours running to perfect her form. So anything from muscle memory to subconscious habits were making the naruto form awkward XD.

There was a person on CZcams a long time ago whose body had adapted to this form of running. Sadly he’s no longer active, went off to make it in the music industry...
Not really. Even trained from birth this technique would still suck because we're not built to run like that. You can tell because no one even considers it until they've seen a particular wank anime.
I practiced my anime running with this mindset: it’s like doing mountain climbers without touching the ground with your hands.
“Weird run” take that back ⚔️
-Fuck you weeb- You deserve to have an opinion
Jeneba's reaction to Kyle's Naruto run is everything.
For a profissional runner seeing that must be the most ridiculous thing.
Even in slow motion she's faster than I could ever be lol
YOU SUCK AT EXISTING LOL
YellowCactusTv z Lol
The trick is to use you arms like a race car's spoiler to create extra down-force on your feet. Loose arms will create extra turbulence behind you and mess up your stiff leaning forward torso. Breaking the sound barrier with an improperly balanced torso is an almost guaranteed face plant.
Ninja running is all about falling forward and being less exhausting, but speed isn’t the reason, the reason is their wooden sandals prevented their feet from pushing off the ground the same way we can with our sneakers
I got a very interesting question maybe for an episode: how fast are Saitama's 'serious sideways steps'?
Mach 2
or how the monster cells work
Count the frames and do pixel measurements comparing the length of steps to saitama's height
@@eanna3781 Sorry but that could be missleading since we only have 24 frames per second. If he took 2400 sidesteps in that second, then only 24 would show. What you should do instead, is calculate the damage one step does to a similar gym floor and recreate how many steps it takes, before its smashed up like in that clip.
Or how fast Goku when he uses the after image technic against to Tien Shin Han and there are 8 (?) Goku visible...
Props to guest Jeneba for dealing with us nerds. x3
The fact that this is a thing is amazing!
I just saw this on a newspaper! ( could be either the Guardian or a Belgian one ( Het Laatste Nieuws) ) Congrats!
"I don't have many athletic clothes"
