About transportation: getting a BIKE on campus is one of the most helpful things you can do! There are bike racks pretty much EVERYWHERE and it's even faster to bike than to take the bus sometimes.
Are there any bike thefts?
@@Cataphract1236 In certain areas, yes, but if you get a U-lock instead of a wire lock you're fine.

Heck, I've worked on campus for 21 years and I found this SUPER informative.
Yes, WALK everywhere, and/or grab a cheap bike. I park the car in the morning in my spot and do not touch it until I leave. If I HAVE TO drive somewhere, it's usually accompanied by a groan.

I graduated from UIUC in 1992 in computer science. I transferred from DePaul University and started as UIUC as a Junior. I did well in computer science only because I started out learning about programming on TRS-80 computers as a kid.
This is just great college advice in general

How did you know which meal plan to choose?
I go to a small school in Chicago to play d3 soccer and I love soccer but all my friends from high school and etc go to u of I and I think I want to go there. I have the grades to get into their business program, but I’m about to be a junior in college and it’s too late to transfer this year. Do you think it would be worth it to transfer my senior year?
Hey man you only get to experience college once but if you’re getting college paid for from soccer I’d stay where you’re at. But if you’re paying for school then yeah make that move big dog. I’m a townie lived out here all my life and the U of I would be a great move. Especially for business. You’ll have a great time and it’s your senior year you’ll have a blast here at the U of I

I’m going in as a transfer and I feel like I’m not going to find my place for a while. Going in as a Junior in the spring term is making me so nervous. Especially because I went to CC for my first two years. I hope in the end it’s an amazing experience tho!

Based on the info I can find it's good, but it doesn't look like I'll be able to see the campus and ask myself so just wondering if you heard anything about it as a student there.

I’d say for this industry, experience counts way more than courses. get involved as much as possible!! definitely try out all the different committees in AAF and always keep an eye out for opportunities and internships. network!! good luck ☺️

@@kevintsai9300 ah swipes are how the dining plan works! you get a certain number of swipes to go to the dining hall each week and a certain number of credits you can spend at the university 'convenience stores'. you're required to pay for one as a freshman and its suuuper pricey lol so don't let it go to waste!

Here’s the one percent of your viewers lmao I’m already worried about paying off loans and havent even stepped on campus. Are there any good ways to make cash on the side? Basically anything besides a typical job. Or maybe a job that is known to pay really well?
imo the best kind of job for the most money is serving in a restaurant or anywhere you can make tip/commission (depending on where you can make at least $150+ per shift); otherwise i also liked working a desk job at the library bc the pay is pretty decent now + i can study/eat while i’m there. i also made a video going into more detail on this! idk if you consider those ‘typical jobs’ but that’s all i’ve had experience with 🙂

Tell me why the school is offering free four years tuition or three years for transfers and then they deny me when I live in state honestly this kind of tells you that they give preferential treatment to out-of-state students since they have to pay over 60,000 and Illinois resident pay nothing. 3.8 gpa btw
Lived in Champaign Urbana my whole life and never attended university of Illinois but it’s the main thing in Champaign Urbana so I’ve been there a lot. Lived on campus for many years. Very fun amazing school. But things are getting bad in Champaign and Urbana now. People are getting killed daily now even on campus. There used to be an IHOP right on green street we used to post up at all the time. That got tore down cuz everyone was shooting up there. It’s a smoke shop now and a liquor store. The bars red lion and clydebornes and joes are decent places. Great party school great school in general but the city is getting bad. Just be safe especially how they’re expanding the university. They’re putting new apartments up in areas I grew up in and it’s not safe where I grew up. So do some research if you’ve never been to Champaign Urbana befor you just find something that says it’s close to campus. Cuz it might be close but might be in an area most people don’t like living. I love it but for students you guys would hate it. Good luck anyone that reads this comment. Ask any questions you got I’ll do my best to answer them.

My ex ran track for u of I and majored in advertising. It’s not hard to get into for advertising from what I saw but there is gonna be a lot of work. But my ex ran track was a star on the track team her names Marissa G. But yeah she ran track, worked at a store in the mall, and got her work done so i think you’ll be fine. Think it’ll be a great move for you. 👍

Is there a lot of freedom to choose course in CS?
generally with any major, there's a set of required courses, a set of courses that's partially required but you can choose which ones, and then after that you have much more freedom with electives and your 400-level classes!
