I got my BS, MS, and PhD from here in ECE and I found the classes to be hard and challenging. It's not easy to fail, but it's not easy to get an A either. If you want a 3.5+ GPA in engineering, be prepared to not have a social life outside of engineering. Your study-buddies in engineering become your social life. If you date, make sure your partner is also in engineering, and hopefully taking the same classes. Sign up for as many classes as you possibly can and then drop later. You do this because if that semester's professor sucks (sometimes you don't know until you've sat in on a few lectures), then you want to wait to take that course another semester when it's taught by someone else. Also, sometimes the midterm and finals schedule all fall on the same day. That's when I selectively drop the courses which exam clog on my schedule. Since most of the grades in the courses are determined by exams, when you take these tests makes a huge difference. Let the person next to you cram for 3 midterms in a week while you only focus on one. That's how you beat the curve. Finally, ask the people the grade above you for all their exams and HW solutions. Pick a dorm close to your courses so that you can grab those elusive ZZZ's in between classes. Nap time comes at a premium in engineering.

I live in Shelbyville, about an hour and a half from Champaign--I used to work at the County Market in Shelbyville before it closed. CM and Harvest Market are actually part of the same company--I was able to see the HM just after it opened when we once had our ESOP meeting in Champaign, and it looks nice! My kiddo is set to attend UIUC in the fall as a transfer student, so I'm encouraging her to get involved in activities. We've been to Champaign several times, so we know there's good food to be found, especially Portillo's!
When I was in high school, I was in band, and we participated in the Band Day at UIUC--it was amazing performing on the field at Memorial Stadium :) I am also planning to move to the Chicago area, but that's due to my husband living up there in the suburbs. I'm currently working on my bachelor's in Multimedia Design and Development/Graphic Design through DeVry.

as a STEM major, most of the classes seem like we are all trying to understand the material and just survive but sometimes in the science courses, it seems like there is a competition on who gets the higher grade. it’s like a lowkey competition, that only a few students feel?? i hope someone else in STEM can explain this better lol

@@zainaanarwala6147, international students unfortunately do not qualify for financial aid or work study. Navya’s only option if going for an undergraduate degree is to apply for more scholarship or look at a different institution that cost significantly cheaper.
What I usually inform potential international students is to pursue their graduate degree at the institution as we provide more aid for those students and usually employee them as teaching assistants, graduate assistants or research assistants. Which cover their student tuition and leaves them to pay for their fees only. Which is typically 2k per semester.
