  • My brother had been wanting to take his Xterra offroad for a while, and one of our old college buddies wanted to test out his 'new to him' 4Runner. So as soon as we got the winch installed we set a date for the next available weekend! Had a few Trailhawks come along and it was a great day on the trails!
    Mods:
    -Rocky Road Super Sliders (rock rails)
    -Dobinsons KL Trailhawk suspension lift, paired with partial Hazard Sky lift spacers to achieve 2.5" lift
    -32" Milestar Patagonia MTs (265/70/17) (had to trim front fenders and pinch welds)
    -40" Rough Country Curved LED DLR Light bar with Hazard Sky mounts
    -Rock Lights (cheapo)
    -4" Pod Lights (cheapo)

    Doesn't matter what you bring to the table, as long as its with good people, and good scenery, wheeling is fun, especially when you send it! Props to you all. Most of the better equipped and capable rigs in Southern California just crawl the Malls, so the fact you're getting dirty with a lot less is all the more inspiring.

      Eggs. Act. Lee. The more people out there enjoying it safely and responsibly will only help this sport/hobby out in the long run. Had a guy snap an axle recently on a ride, i felt bad for him and kept apologizing...he kept saying "a bad day on the trail is still better than a good day sitting at home". I even don't mind seeing mall crawlers...because they are buying Jeep parts...keeping the market viable for the rest of us!

      I think Trailhawk might be #2 behind Rubicon on a muddy hill climb... As far as traction on dirt goes... Probably #2 out of all jeeps. On rocks... Yeah maybe a Wrangler sport with 40s can take it.
      2 inch lift on the trialhawk is like stock Rubicon to me.
      My humble opinion.... Dunno if Jason agrees ...

    Pretty damn good for a vehicle that also gets 26-28mpg highway, can tow 4000lbs, goes down the road extremely well and it's really comfortable inside. Jeep has a pretty good vehicle there. I have a feeling they'll gain a cult following over time.

      Haha! Yeah, most Jeepers are great folks! Its amazing to see such a strong community based around owning a vehicle. But as with any group of people, there are some that are not as open. Got a 2019 KL trailhawk over other, let's say, more capable machines for 2 reasons. I have a family I need to haul around as my daily driver and I want to be able to handle a good amount of offroading challenges.
      These videos are awesome. I'd love to own a wrangler but it's just not practical. I feel the newer cherokees are a good blend. My best friend is a hardcore wrangler owner and was super excited for me and just loves to crawl and get to places most can't. I feel people like that are like that are the true Jeepers. The haters just want to feel elite at something. The same people who want to shit on the Toyota FJ and 4Runners and the like.
      We all love the outdoors and upgrading our rides. Keep crawling!

    • @fugaziiv
      @fugaziiv Před 3 lety +3

      @@m.g.1089 Right on. Full disclosure, since I posted my initial response, I got rid of the Wrangler and went back to the cult of 4runner... for much the same reasons you went with a KL TH. It was a toss up for me between the two, and ultimately I just like Toyota. For real world application with more than a passing dash of off road capability 4runner and KL TH are VERY hard to beat.

    • @FearlessTrailhawk
      @FearlessTrailhawk  Před 4 lety +1

      You can do a fair amount stock. We had 2 bone stock TH's (with newb drivers) on this ride, neither of them had to get pulled. Lift and tires cause extra wear on other parts, so be prepared to start replacing CV's and other suspension related bits that won't be covered by the dealership. If i didn't ride so much with my club i'd probly left it stock with just the rock rails. I really miss being able to say "yep, and i'm still stock".

    • @mrjomaled755
      @mrjomaled755 Před 4 lety

      Thanks for the advice. I keep forgetting that lifts and other mods do place extra stress on the suspension and running gears. I may just do rock rails at least and perhaps increase my tire size to 255/70 or 245/70 . I’ve read a lot in the blogs about using that tire size without any lifts or pinch welds but I get so many conflicting answers. What’s your take? And thanks for replying by the way.

    • @FearlessTrailhawk
      @FearlessTrailhawk  Před 4 lety

      The gen2's have smaller front wheel wells, but even then, tire size is one of the most helpful forms of lift you can get, and even 1/2" more clearance can make a big difference. As to which size won't need to grind, it is really a per-vehicle thing as some do and some don't, for whatever reason. Mine is different fits between driver/passenger sides.

    First off thank you for your video definitely some good entertainment while stuck at home. How reliable is the Cherokee with the lift kit? Do you recommend it? I am looking to get a Cherokee Trailhawk and want to do a two inch lift and some tires but have been told by many that's it's not made to be lifted. But then I see a decent amount of people with a lift and figured I would ask someone like you with the first hand experience.

      @FearlessTrailhawk  Před 4 lety +1

      Depending on where you are located, you may be able to get dealership to install lift and fully maintain warranty. MFC (one of the companies that makes lifts for us) has agreements with a number of dealerships.
      As to my personal experience, i'd say don't there aren't many issues until you do more than 2". Currently i'm sitting around 2.5-3" and i've had a couple CV's go bad and one of my bushings. That may also be due to me taking it on the trails a lot as well. They certainly look better with a lift and tires.

      My right rear went out before i got lifted, i think it was partially due to some unseen collision damage. I got it replaced and the replacement went out within a week, dealership claimed the lift was responsible and "it will just go out again". Drove on that for 2 months then replaced it before the Colorado trip. At some point late summer, the left rear started clicking. Have driven on that since and will likely replace that soon-ish. The right side is still doing fine since the 2nd replacement in July (i think it was either bad part or bad install).
      Nothing from the fronts *yet, but i will be purchasing the RCV front axles at some point this year...really wish they would make the rears as well. But also keep in mind, i wheel the piss out of mine.

The club did have a lifted and tow-hooked AD1 latitude come along for one of the club rides, but the also had to sit one trail out and had to get pulled through one of the ruts. Just being honest.

    • @FearlessTrailhawk
      @FearlessTrailhawk  Před 7 měsíci

      This ride consisted of a number of old unmaintained county roads near Chilicothe. Unfortunately it has proven unwise to give people the trail addresses as it 8s easy to take a wrong turn in this area, and the locals can get very protective of their private property. Most of the Ohio based jeep groups do organized rides through the area.
      The trails have also gotten a bit more challenging in the 3+ years since this video was filmed.

      *looks at the Ranger that was in the vid...unless you mean like some of the larger super duty's and such? Tacoma's, Frontiers, Gladiators, and the like have all gone down these trails. They can get a little more beat up because they stick out a bit more in the back.
      These are all public county roads. There are a couple places to park trailers, and there are always sxs's on those trails. Like i said in the vid, there were a metric tonne there this particular day...i'm not sure where all the trailers were parked though...because we probly saw well over 100, and encountered a couple groups of maybe 20 or more. I'm not a sxs guy, so i can't really answer the trailering question as well, other than the area we usually stage and trail prep for Jeep rides, some people will leave trailers there.

      Maybe I can help a bit more on the full size portion, being married into that Ranger, we have had a couple F-150s in the past, Those specific trails would be too narrow for a F150 you liked the paint on. I’d love to get into off roading but I don’t have the vehicle for it yet. One day I will. This looks like fun. Is that a stock 4Runner? It looked very composed out there.

      Maybe they just need a snickers? I'm with you, it doesn't matter what you are using, if you are out there enjoying a sport and doing it in a safe and responsible manor, it can only help to spread awareness and help the sport grow in a positive direction. I do my best not to discriminate, as i am usually the recipient and it can suck sometimes.
      Yes, the 4Runner is stock with the exception of some light AT cooper tires? As to offroading, i'd never been until i owned my previous Trailhawk for a year...then went on a stock ride, on most of these same trails, and was instantly hooked! Yeah there will be more expenses and repairs, but i think it is worth it.

      There's some toxicity in the jeep community. Most off roading can be done in a 2wd vehicle. Not everyone wants to crawl up boulders

      It is really sad to see though. How does that do anything but hurt the community, i just get it. But more trolls equal better interaction and better YT algorithm placements, so it doesn't hurt my channel any...lol

    Why drag your rear diff across the mound? You don’t have to nor should you take the beaten rut path. That red orange Jeep did it correctly.

    • @FearlessTrailhawk
      @FearlessTrailhawk  Před 3 lety +1

      Umm, which part? The only reason the driver in the red KL did that obstacle well is because it wasn't his first time with me, and he takes spotting directions VERY WELL. That side wall is not something i would let new drivers attempt, even with spotting, as inches matter, just a LITTLE bit off and you are on your side.
      The trucks could all make it without straddling the rut, and that is the safest option. I've seen too many rigs on their side in this section to take it lightly.
