I read the title and instantly had a flashback to Evan & Katelyn's pumpkin Francis (and yearly subsequent pumpkin resin experiments) lol I'm really impressed how resilient the butternut squash is!
That is, what I was thinking of. 😂
One cannot forget Francis and his degradation.
It might be because the butternut pumpkin is so much smaller. I always wondered when I saw their videos if they used a smaller version would it have worked better? Their pumpkins are always so big. Hilarious outcomes though.😂
@@ctempleman1401 I think it’s not the sitze. I think it’s more the texture and the water content of the Butternut. It is more solid.
@@detliskenvondematkos didn't know that because we have a pumpkin here called jarah it is so much harder than the butternut. I usually buy pumpkin in slices, half a butter nut or a slice of jarah. I prefer cutting the butternut. 😄
That is so cool. Using the butternut was a good idea. The skin is harder than a regular pumpkin. Looks like a head in a jar! I think the bubbles make it look more creepy. ❤❤❤❤
Thanks Connie 😊
and the head in the jar has had the brain removed, from the incision.
Look forward to seeing the 1 year update. The more rotten it gets. The better the Halloween effect is.
Really neat, Ben. It may have turned out better than others because you used a butternut instead of a regular pumpkin.
Bill
The only issue I can see is the air gap under the lid that MAY be an issue in the future. If you ever do it again maybe put some holes in the top to allow it to fully fill with resin but it looks pretty good as it stands.
Evan and Katelyn did that last year and it was chaotic but seemed to help
It might not be a true pumpkin but it made a pretty awesome jack-o-lantern lamp! I wondered if you put it into a vacuum chamber, it would have removed more of the air reduce the bubbles? Anyway, it looks great!
I am really impressed with how well the pumpkin held up over 3 months. Very cool 👍
Thanks Mark 😊
I love how the sharpie smudged and looks like smoke, makes it look like there’s an actual candle burning inside it causing the smoke!
Evan and Katelyn on youtube have been trying to do this for a while so if you ever do this again you should see what they've done just so you dont waste your time and resources (i havent watched the video yet)
I immediately thought of E+K too since I know they've been trying various methods. And there's a short updating the current pumpkin 1 year later.
@@MissMTurner yeah
What a great pumpkin for Halloween! Best to keep it inside, you wouldn't want it smashed on the street! Love it! 🎃
I like how the marker around the nose hole swirled up like that, it makes the nose seem way deeper like a cave entrance
Regarding knife cuts - I think you're probably right because they sell a "pumpkin knife" here that is basically a thick aluminum saw blade with totally rounded edges to ensure nobody can cut themselves on it. Since pumpkins are a relatively squishy material it just pokes through about as easily as a regular knife. Just with a much larger kerf, obviously, but that doesn't matter with carving a pumpkin.
That’s a big squash! I’ve never used one for a Jack-O-Lantern before. It turned out super cute.
The bubbles added a underwater creepy vibe lol great vid 🌟🌟🌟🌟
I like how the marker pen has smudged and made a scorched effect adds to the Halloween look
Nicely done Ben!!! Once again you've worked your magic!! And now Nicole has been in your videos two weeks in a row!! You guys are both so talented. Always look forward to your videos. Keep working the magic!!!
Thats brilliant Ben, the bubbles make it look alive 👻🎃!!
Been a LONG TIME since I have been in Australia (1986 to bury my Fiancee in Tenant Creek), a “Butternut Pumpkin” is an Aussie-ism that I actually remember. We Yankees call them “Butternut Squash”. So you bring back memories.
A drowning jack o lantern, cool, glad you left the bubbles. I had to laugh at the "Check it out" when I make something I say the same thing to my cat in just the same way 😂Thanks so much for uploading all these videos, I love them 👍
I have eaten many butternut squash, but I have never seen anybody carve one like a Jack O'Lantern, but I have to admit it came out pretty darn cool. Quite Awesome, Happy Halloween 🎃👻
I think the air bubbles add to the spooky Halloween vibe . Neat
This looks so creepy and does have sortof a walking dead head in a jar feel to it. Well done. Yeah Evan and Katelyn have been trying to do a cool pumpkin every year and it's awesome to watch, but it's definitely very hard to do. Keep up the great job Ben! 🎃
I like the effect from the seeping ink on the face (though I'm guessing unintentional)
It gives it a little spookyness
I kinda love how it looks more like a traditional jack o' lantern when lit up.
3:15 my brother in law is a trauma nurse.
Yes, emergency departments get busier around the holidays.
From people cutting themselves while carving pumpkins to people who forget to put on oven mitts before taking the pumpkin pie out of the oven.
Carve it out from the bottom is best. Do the pour with the pumpkin upside down so the head fills up completely no air pockets. Sort the base out last. Sort of doing it all in reverse.
That is a great idea. I thought pouring through the top opening but your way is so much better.
There's probably some air trapped under the lid, wonder if that's going to affect the rotting process eventually, should have poked a breather hole before casting
If you do something like this again with the wire, carve a short slot in the underside of the resin base to allow the cable to bend as you take it out, did you forget release agent ?
One idea would be to wrap the cable around the base with tape and turn just the top into a curve ;)
Ben, long time follower. I always look forward to your videos as your work is incredible and you are such a sweet person. I’ve looked at your shop several times over the years and never bought anything as shipping costs to the US are a bit high (totally understandable) but today is the day I actually bought something. I owe it to you for all the entertainment you’ve provided me over the years. I’m excited to get my blue starry night egg 😊 thanks in advance!!!
Thankyou!! I really appreciate your support 😊
i really like how the heat from the resin (at least i think thats what caused it) made the marker start to wear off, gives the eyes and mouth a bit of a smokey feel which makes it kinda spooky looking
Wow, amazing! Great project. Looks creepy with the bubbles (which i love).
Thanks Linda 😊
Boo Ben!! The butternut jack-o-lantern looks spooky cool. No tricks...just a treat. Lol
Happy Halloween from Texas!!🎃🖤👻🧡💀
Happy Halloween from Austin. Hope you’ve been enjoying the rain, if you’re getting it
I loved the way the marker pen leaked around the mouth. Great effect. Another brilliant build 🤟
The light was a brilliant idea!
So i love how it was such a cute pumpkin and after just finishing it looked absolutely scary af! Like the black marker got way loose and the effect is just unreal. I noticed after 6 months, the base is kind of green so it will be cool to see it after a couple of months or years as well.
I immediately said "no, don't turn it" in my head, then you said you left them in! The large bubbles made this piece! Personally, I might have used food coloring to dye the skin orange, but otherwise, bloody brilliant, and yeah, I think it's good for the future archeologists Ben!
The bubbles are perfect! It makes it look like a mad scientist project🧡perfectly disembodied.
The egg video was hilarious. I felt bad for you but couldn't stop laughing. They are all cool experiments! This pumpkin is the most awesome!
absolutely super WICKED!!!! 👻
I don’t know about everyone else, but I’m totally cool seeing this again when pumpkins are in season there in Australia. 😊 As the original jack-o’-lantern, a turnip would be interesting as well. Honestly, I’ve throughly enjoyed all the these “preserved” fruits of yours. ❤
I was expecting more to happen with the air bubble under the lid, but happily surprised that nothing really catastrophic happened.
Pennywise in resin was cool . Jack O'Lantern in resin much much cooler thank you for posting
Hi Ben, great job. It turned out cool with a light too. Have a great weekend.
Frightenly cool!! I love the bit of black around the eyes. The light was a great idea! It turned out better than I thought it would!! Thank you for sharing! 😊💜
Thanks Mel, yeah the black looks cool 😊
Anything that will rot outside of resin will eventually rot inside resin. But it lasts longer. Cool video!

Awesome Video Ben's Worx i would like to say that you did an awesome job with casting the pumpkin in epoxy resin and I hope you are all well.
Thanks Mate
Hmmmmm… I can smell pumpkin soup from all that lovely pumpkin flesh!
What a brilliant project Ben … spooooooooky!
Thanks Fran 😊
You sir are an absolute delight to follow and watch your creations! You are a party in a CZcams video! Jan from USA Arizona!!
What you could do is seal the inside with resin first so there is less bubbles.
You put hot glue or tape on the outside of the eyes, nose and mouth. Then fill inside with resin. Then don't carve the flesh from the top of the pumpkin. Then when it's cured you can put it back into the bucket and fill the rest up.
Evan and katelyn on CZcams did a resin pumpkin and it's lasted years 😂
Yes the ER does get busier around Halloween. I love this. A butternut squash great choice Ben.
I live in the US, and we don't call that a pumpkin, we call that a butternut squash!😂 But same thing I guess!!
I can't wait to see this one next year!!🎃👻☠️
Pouring the resin in, in a way that there was a hole at the highest point on the pumpkin to void out as much air as possible from the pumpkin may have reduced the small amount of shrinkage/decay that did happen. It was Cool to see how well it held up, even with some air still inside the pumpkin.
That's a good first jack-o-lantern! Next time you might want to try a washable marker because permanently marker is hard to get off without damaging the pumpkin.
A touch of rubbing alcohol takes it off no issue. Been using it for years and it doesn’t seem to affect the pumpkin
@@wolflinggon5664 Oh thanks! I entirely forgot that was a thing that works and went right for stronger solvents lol.
It turned out so cool, impressive that it still looks great after three months 👍
I love watching your experiments! Thanks!
Yours came out the best I've seen so far.. If you really wanted to amp it up I can think of a few more steps that might take more time but you'd have a clearer casting with less chance of bubbles and pulling from shrinkage. Always love watching you tho it's soothing for some reason
What a great idea! It looks so awesome!
After seeing other resin pumpkin attempts, I get concerned about the internal void under the lid and the inevitable bubble.
That is so cool looking
Thanks Stacey 😊
Amazing project. Two thumbs up.
This was neat. I do have a suggestion: Go ahead and buy (and fill with resin) a pumpkin now, for next years video. That way you can do a 1 year update on both!
Also, another suggestion, place micro holes (approximately the size of tooth picks) to allow any trapped air to release from the top of the pumpkin head.
Love it. I think the bubbles add to it.
You gave it an adorable face! It’s such a fun experiment. Thanks for sharing with us!
When you left the Sharpie around the cut out features I thought it was a mistake but then the resin dissolved the alcohol and made it even more awesome. Kind of like a bald Alice Cooper (out of his gourd). 👏🏼🎃👏🏼
An absolute win!!!
Thanks Lynn 😊
Awesome idea!!!! Great video as always, thanks man!
If you ever do this again, cut a notch when cutting the lid off. Makes it a ton easier to fit the lid back on later. That, of course, wouldn’t have worked this time, just something to keep in mind. Originally when all this started, they carved turnips, not pumpkins. So that might be worth a go. ❤
Thanks for the tip 😊
Awesome. You did it
You did a great job Ben. Brilliant!!!
If you do another pumpkin, fill it res in part day (so the eyes and mouth are covered) and then out in some coloring inside the pumpkin, and then finish as before. You could end up with some interesting light effects.
That is so cool! I was really surprised at the result after three months. It doesn't seem to have changed much at all!
Happy Halloween! Great job!! ♥️♥️♥️
That was pretty cool to watch!
Thanks Mate 😊
Not what I would have expected. Good job and a very interesting project.
I recon the air bubble in the top of the lid will cause problems long term.
It does look amazing though. I hope it holds for years to come.
Our family record is having a carved pumpkin last all winter Into early spring sitting on our deck. So it will be cool to see how one does in resin!
The bubbles actually add to the overall look 😊
That came out amazing! Love it so much!
wow it looks awesome!
It turned out so good!!! Great job and I can't wait to receive the egg I bought 😊
That was awesome!!
I love this SO MUCH!!! 😍😍😍🎃
Looks fantastic!
Loved your food in resin videos which got me to have a go
I did a mince pie in resin and put some glitter for the base turned out better then I expected
Pretty spooky pumpkin.
It looks great! However, there are big difference between a pumpkin and a butternut squash. Pumpkins are softer and I think you would a completely different result using an actual pumpkin. Anyway, great job!
So much fun!
Looks great. Good job sir 👏
Looks really awesome. But I would have left the cap of and poured the resin inside the pumpkin first so that it spills out of the eyes, nose and mouth. I would then put the cap on and pour the rest to avoid those bigger air bubbles.
Hi Ben, cheers from Oregon USA 🇺🇸. Did a great job Mate, that pumpkin looks like it’s in a science jar. Just need a lid handle on top, perfect pumpkin specimen.
This looks awesome! And i was hoping that you would somehow get a light in there and you did! :D This is a halloween decoration that as long as the lights keep working, it can just be used over and over. Good job on this!
WOW, awsome job
The bubbles look really cool imo. It almost makes me wish there was some method you could try to control the stream of bubbles to get a more consistent look.
would love to see and actual pumpkin for a video released next year.
for the hollowing your best tool is a large spoon that's partially sharpened to a thinner edge but not sharp enough to cut you, with your thumb inside the middle of the spoon use it to scoop
That turned out really good 🤩
It’s a great way of making Halloween decorations that last 😂
Great job!
Wow that turned out awesome, great job!
I’m loving this! And I really like the bubbles! Awesome!❤
cool project, love it!
I think yours came out the best!! I love it!!! Happy Halloween 🎃
