Also, another reason it’s great like you were saying, but sometimes during an emergency situation, you can scrounge up some propane tanks sometimes easier than gas depending on the time of year. Thanks for the great information. Keep it coming.
Yea all depends on where ya live and what’s available. Always good to try and prep before a storm. And you’re welcome and thanks for watching 👍🏼😀
Good stuff. I got tired of having to clean my generator carb so I switched my old Generac over to a tri-fuel set up. I also have a small dual fuel inverter gen for my bus that hasn't seen a drop of gas in it.
I have a couple now that never see gas. When testing all this stuff I have to make sure everything is treated, run them every couple months unless one gets loaned out.
Great information as usual! Thanks!
Thank you Charles 👍🏼😀
Great information from your video!
😀👍🏼
Adding a propane powered generator would be a smart addition to my solar set ups and my Ecoflow Delta Pro back up power source. My son has that Champion 4500 unit. I still haven’t unboxed my Predator 2000. 😵💫. Great info here, thanks!
Thanks Jeff, Happy new Year and unbox that thing 😂👍🏼
Happy New Year 🤠🤙🏼
Duel fuel definitely the way to go more options
So in the case of the ecoflow smart generator, does the dual fuel unit have this same propane bypass that the gasoline only version wouldn't have? I recall you were recommending the gas stand alone with a homemade put together upgrade for dual fuel / tri-fuel over buying the dedicated dual fuel generator and I'm curious about that for the future since I already got the dual fuel version
The gas only version of the SG was the unit you want for a Tri fuel kit. Verses the dual fuel has an onboard load regulator which makes it much harder to to run NG.
@@johnnysweekends thank you!
At 1:18 point you say propane/natural gas generators have a 10-15% lower lifetime, why is that? With cleaner oil etc I would have thought the opposite to be true?
I was wondering the same thing. Johnny, you state all of the benefits of propane being cleaner burning causing less issues with the engine itself, but you state that engines running propane wont last as long? How so? All research I've done over the years, speaks to the opposite. Propane-powered forklifts are a good example of this, as the propane-engines tend to last much longer.
@@tristanschaper281I didn't know this about propane Fork trucks but it's very interesting and I'm curious as well. Adding a comment here cuz I figured if we build on this one instead of adding our own similar question it might get answered haha
In short propane generators typically have a higher compression ratio which needs tighter clearances. But a designated propane only generator can normally last almost as long.
But with dual fuel they probably build the engine to run primarily on gas, do not use hardened valves which is needed for propane generators and because of less btu or energy per gallon the engine may need to spin faster for the same load that gas is using. So if also turning more rpm over hundreds or thousands of hours that adds up to more wear and tear till something essentially fails. Normally the valves or loss of compression from valves or piston rings.
See answer above… or below 🤔😂
@@johnnysweekendswhy the need for harder valves?
Thanks god bless
😀👍🏼🙌🏼
I can store propane much longer than storing gas. Safer storing propane as well.
Is there aw way to run that Champion using natural gas?
Yes but a Kit and by pass internal reg
Propane doesn’t last very long. It’s a great option for a cook top though. Very grateful for my PTO generator and my diesel tractor. Plus with a 75 gallon transfer tank on my Cummins, it can run a long time. Hard to beat for hurricane preparedness here on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
Totally different unit there but nice to have if you have the room.
Propane actually lasts (ie. stores) longer than all other generator fuels? (Did you mean typical tank size-like a bbq tank? People with generacs, for example, have 500-10,000l tanks.)
@@GMC-qo9xi I meant running wise. It does keep longer than any other fuel.
@@GulfSoftwash so then are you referring to the relatively small bbq tanks? Tanks come in any size you need, so I’m still not following what the issue is that you are pointing to.
@@GMC-qo9xi 10 gallons of diesel will run longer than 10 gallons of propane. Diesel is easier to refill than propane. Only way a natural gas generator makes more sense than diesel for a backup solution is if a home has a natural gas hook up and can run indefinitely.
Living on the gulf coast in the middle of hurricane alley, being without power means longer periods of time without it. Propane is cool for a day or two, but for extended periods of time, I’m taking diesel.
Could these be explosive? Leak propane under cover?
Not anymore explosive then having gas in it..🤷🏼♂️
@@johnnysweekends Does flow gas stop if leave tank on after shutting down
@user-qu8so3io7h yes when gen shuts off the gas flow will stop
Had a question...What is the best generator apart from Honda & Yamaha...?
That’s a million dollar question!
@@johnnysweekends Which one is the closest you think...?
Honestly depends on size. Not all champion units are made by the same manufacturer that I know of.
Same with other brands except GenMax and DuroMax I believe they make all of there’s.
The champion 4500 and wen 3800/4500 have been excellent units from most user reviews and feed back
The Honda 2200 still seems like a great unit for those that want to spend more and have something quiet but gas only
The champion 2500 seems to do very well.
The Maxpeedingrods 3500 has been getting really popular and the pulsar dual fuel 4000 which has the same engine but an awesome price.
Honestly that pulsar is doing really well.
It all depends on the size. The predator had its day but there are better options now.
Have you seen or checked out the Champion 4000 watt dual fuel inverter generator?
I will be soon, probably a month. I dont know why they used the company they did for the engine. Never heard of them
@@johnnysweekends I’m really watching out for a dual fuel generator on sale prime days. I really want the maxspeedingrods 4000 watt. The low decibel range and weight caught my eye 2nd choice is the Pulsar 4000 watt. I actually scored this one on May 16th this year on Amazon for $149. Someone screwed up they said it shipped then 3 days later cancelled the order. Lol I need someone not send me things to review, but I couldn’t do the job like you. Thanks for the videos. I watch them over and over if it has to do with the equipment I am looking at for my rv’s

Correct! Medical field still gets in there sometimes as we monitor Co2 levels on patients. I’m pretty good about catching it in editing but hey… we are human
