As a retired combat veteran I can tell you that a vast majority of service members have what most people would call a dark sense of humor. And being shot at, having IEDs blow up around you, the only way you can deal with it is to make jokes about it. We crack on each other and cut each other down a lot, but that really means we love each other. The only time you have to worry is when your fellow soldiers hardly acknowledge you or never say rude things to you. Heck most of my officers and even a General or two would say crazy things or laugh if I said something crude to them. One Colonel used to always tell me nasty jokes!!
One of 😊the funniest phrases I’ve ever heard is : “There’s nothing funny about …”. That’s nothing but a challenge.
Mad respect for the Bee. Satire is really needed in this world and the fact they are willing to roast their own side is a great quality.

You know what- the people that get offended are not the ones closest to the tragedy, because military, police, fire , EMS , and nurses have the same dark twisted humor to deal with our jobs 😂

When I was a kid and we saw live on TV at school (many schools aired it because of the teacher being on board) the Challenger explode I said the last words of that teacher on it was "hey, what's this button for?"
Wasn't because I was a cruel kid, just trying to cope with the overwhelming image of what I saw.
I was in Florida at the time as a kid and they all brought us out into courtyard to watch the plume of smoke from rockets.....then it split and they all took us suddenly inside and didn't tell us anything. Fuinny joke thought, would have been better if teacher was the one who pressed it.
Regarding the teacher on Challenger…a joke right after….what color were Christa McAuliffes eyes?
Blue. One blew right, one blew left.
We buried my grandfather that day.

I believe humans were "given" a sense of humor as a coping mechanism for all the terrible things life throws at us. I feel sorry for people who are easily offended because they are lacking in this trait.

I like the Spirit airline jokes.
Ironically, the best flights I’ve had in the last decade were on Spirit. The negative publicity meant having room to extend your elbow into the empty seat next to you, but the best surprise was that the flight attendants were relaxed and friendly. Often now the flight attendants (on other airlines) seem to be on edge and wary - to the point of being defensive if you say thank you.
So, I decided to give this little acknowledgment to them in your comments section.
I used to fly Spirit. Was not bad, Frontier is the Target to WW.
Appreciate the Spirit shout out. There have been a few people claiming Spirit has been pretty good. I'm almost convinced to give them a try. appreciate the comment!

Last flight had a woman who screamed at me and claimed my animals under the seat were farting the whole time (we were at the front right by the bathrooms with people standing there waiting to go) and then was coddled by the staff for the remaining 4 hours of the flight. I am Indian and they were all the same race, darker than me.
How about Egypt Air. For $400 they will fly you from JFK to JFK Jr.
First time (and last time) I was on Spirit, the attendants were fighting with one of the passengers and they wouldn't stop loudly talking about it among themselves. So loud that not even headphones could block their incessant complaining, while they disregarded the rest of the passengers and blocked the restroom... so very unprofessional. It takes two, but the situation was diffused ans they wanted to escalate it.
Besides that, the last minute cancelling, and rescheduling to where they charged me extra and couldn't do anything about. Just a horrible experience overall.
Cheaper up front, but you'll pay for it otherwise.

It is not twisted to think of jokes after tragedy. I live in South Africa, and we make jokes about every tragedy. We don't wait for comedians. Just go watch TV ads from South Africa and you realize we make fun about everything.

There used to be a female tv comedian in the UK called Marti Caine.
In the Sun newspaper, there used to be a page of crossword and simple puzzles, probably set up days or weeks before publication, including anagrams of famous stars or tv personalities.
On the day Marti died suddenly and unexpectedly, the famous personality anagram was "I'm in a crate" ( Marti Caine).

What scares me about TBB, is how many of their way out, wacky jokes, turn out to be true.
AWANA is a good and fun Children's Bible-based program that encourages and strengthens trust, faith, love and obedience to Jesus Christ in one's life, so the joke with Trump in a Sparky vest, in his attempts to endear Christians, was something that promoted the efforts of the AWANA organization as one with a positive impact and influence on everyone. Someone misread the implications behind the use of their organization's Sparky vest in the joke and took offense, without realizing that it was one that brought good publicity to their goals and efforts in ministry, as people will want to know more about it and be encouraged to have children participate to get to know God more through their ministry. AWANA is a good and fun Children's Bible-based program that encourages and strengthens trust, faith, love and obedience to Jesus Christ in one's life - frankly religious indoctrination of children is inherently child abuse, so no it is not a 'good' program.

That's Totally True!!! My dad and I Struggle with that; to the point at funerals he would remind me that we both need to keep jokes to ourselves.
You can't spell funeral without "fun." I laugh at them, too. Nothing I do is bringing them back, so it just makes more sense to enjoy life when and where you can. I let me kids laugh at them, too. My son and I aren't allowed to sit with each other anymore.
I've had to walk out of a few funeral services because I was laughing so hard. Anyone who followed me out to offer comfort found my thoughts equally hysterical. My best friend died at 39. She looked gorgeous! I kept visualizing her sitting up and saying, "Boo!" I couldn't make it stop. For my grandfather, I was whispering to my dad that Grandpa didn't look like Grandpa. We figured out it was because he wasn't wearing his glasses. "He doesn't NEED them but...." We made a note to remember Grandma's glasses a few years later.
I got ejected from my cousins funeral. Everyone was standing around going "he looks so handsome, he looks just like he's sleeping.." Then there's me.."He looks like he got hit by a train..." Which is how he died. I'm sorry I didn't get the memo we'd entered the delusional part of the evening, you could SEE the putty used to reconstruct half his face. At least I never said "WTF were you thinking, open casket? FFS..." I thought it, but never said it, so I'm calling it a win.
@@jlgavitt How to explain a funeral to my 3 y.o. daughter. "Grandpa's taking a nap." My 3rd child, so my reaction time was good. I caught her JUST as she was climbing into the casket to lay next to him.
Thankfully I never had to explain death and funerals to a young child, mine were in their teens before a family member passed. I'd have done a shit job. Most likely my husband would have taken that one for the team.

Some people have the remarkable ability to remain unemotional about things and at the same time see the funny side of things. It's a gift.
Not really. We're called sociopaths because of it. "Don't you care at all? How can you be so cold?" But as soon as you get a video on EMS workers or detectives being able to push through and ignore emotions, it's, "What a hero! They save lives!" Like, those of us who can emotionally distance ourselves from issues in the domestic may not be saving lives daily, but we're not trying to manipulate you just because we aren't instantly drawn to babies or can cut through your marriage drama to see the issues causing it.

After flying with Spirit the first time, my wife asked me what it was like. I told her that it was like that movie from the 1950s where Jimmy Stewart was riding in a bus in a foreign country wearing a suit and a hat. Nobody spoke English, it was smelly and people were riding with goats and chickens. Kinda like that.

Awana needs to lighten up! My daughter and her friend use to see how many memory verses they could pass each week. They would memorize, quickly find a leader to quote to and move on to the next. I doubt they retained any memorization.
Make them write it down as well.

If something is truly important to you, you will immerse yourself in it, and that usually means memorizing at least some of the source material. Also, one of the first attacks that anyone will take in defending their religion are challenges to how well they know their scripture, and if they don't know it extremely well, that is treated as a strike against them.

The author dying the same day as you put out the satire reminds me of a dark humor meme about babies that I posted to a pregnant friend's social media, only to have her post about a miscarriage like an hour later. It was a complete Ah sht! moment.

I totally relate to finding comedy in tragedy.
A local elderly man died from a gas explosion in his home. My friend was telling me about this and said; "The poor man. I wonder what went through his mind in his final moments"

I was a big east coast city firefighter. You want dark humor. Sit at the kitchen table after multiple deaths. If the public heard us, they would want to put us in our own camps.

Yeah, I have moments like that too when I immediately think of funny or ironic angles to tragic events or someone's death. In the skit about Californians moving to Texas - going to the gun range - the Alec Baldwin rule had me crying it was so twisted funny.

Yes some people cope with bad news by covering it with a bit of humor. My wife doesn't understand that aspect of me and I hold back on it as she's commented in a few cases why do I laugh at so many things. And the truth is, even within the dark and horrible clouds of life, there is almost always something that can be comedic. Sure it's not the best time for it (too soon, FAR too soon). But it is there, and we cope by grasping at that comedic lining of the cloud.
And yes I have flown Spirit once .. just once. But in my defense with no luggage that flight the $49 one way fare was hard to beat. And I got in my needed steps pedaling with the rest to keep the plane in the air.

Gary Larson's "The Complete Far Side" has many examples of letters-to-editor complaining about Larson putting animals in peril (Teacup Poodle Fanciers vs. Falconers comes to mind). Berke Breathed penned a panel sparked by a woman's attempt to censor Bloom County way back in the 1980s. Great moments in comedy.
