ANTHROPOID is based on the extraordinary true story of the World War II operation to assassinate Nazi commanding officer Reinhard Heydrich. Heydrich was the Reich’s third in command after Hitler and Himmler; he was the main architect behind the Final Solution and the leader of Nazi forces in Czechoslovakia. Nicknamed “The Butcher of Prague,” his reign of terror and brutality prompted Czech authorities in London to hatch a top-secret mission, codenamed “Operation Anthropoid,” which would change history forever. - Krátké a kreslené filmy
Imagine that. No way out. No reinforcements. No last minute saving. All they had was their dignity. Remarkable bravery. Truly a story worth telling for centuries.
best shootout scene I've ever seen..they were cursed from the beginning but they fought till the tragic end.
Official report of the gestapo was that they were askied 3times to surender and they refused each time while third time they said Czechoslovaks dont surrender. To bad they got betrayed by one of their own.
They fought for 7 hrs. I dont know how they held them that long
They were going to lose anyways so why not make as much noise as possible
@@lerafty5116 Yeah, I mean if I was at their position I would be thinking "Even tho I am going to die, I will not surrender and make it hard for them to get me". I know, sounds ridicolous, they had much more courage than any of us here, but you know what I mean, right?
@@17MrLeon No my friend this is not a tragic end. This is a "Dying as a man in a blaze of freaking glory!" Oh how I wish this was how I went out.
Every little detail even how the structural look of how the SS squads were depicted during the shootout is a pretty close representation. You don’t have soldiers running around with MP40s all over the place you see a lot of KAR98Ks and even MP38s considering the time of the war and the fact that they’re actually implementing MG34s instead of the obligatory MG42 shows a lot. Seeing how the production team has a lot of care for authenticity!
Mp28* and waffen ss*
But you are right
Except at that point in the church they didn't have sten guns only pistols.
Amazing film!! Rest in peace to the Czechoslovakia Soldiers. Their bravery was exceptional!
burn In hell 😂😂😂
7 vs 800, Duration of the fight seven hours,
that makes me a proud Czech.
I used to date a girl.....a Slovak from Trencin that introduced me to this movie. One of the assassins she told me was a Slovak.
Will always remember her and this will always be one of my favorite films.
Dakujem peki ne!!
The nation of St. Wenceslas, Milan Stefanik and Tomas Masaryk...will never be a nation of slaves. We will do what we must with the help of god.
I watched this movie last night and can't stop talking about it lol
This is one of the best fight scenes I've ever seen in a war movie, tbh.
Duglife went on for 6 hours if i recall correctly...insane
@@charms71 that's definetly insane, how they managed it I don't know.
@@charms71 yeah it's weird to say that they held their positions in that church for 6-7 hours but in the movie this shootout scene was barely 25-30 mins 😐😤😡🤐
This is a remake done right. It’s not a carbon copy. The film truly benefits from modern acting techniques, cinematography and acting.
...Second for me... That Saving Private Ryan normandy beach scene is number one in my book, this one is number 2. Both great!!
Just watched this movie, wow it was really good!
I Hate Google Go to the Church & Crypt If you ever go to Prague it’s really emotional.
Probably the most underrated movie made in the last 5 years. Bought a DVD of it last year and watched it for my birthday. My friends liked it and were pleasantly surprised.
the assassination of Heydrich scene looks like it was the exact reenactment of the killing Heydrich
@@ChairmanPaulieD actualy the assasination looks good but the church fight was slightly diferent. They dont have any submachine guns etc..
The machine-gun fire was so LOUD in the theatre. Oooh!
Thanks for upload. In fact those three CZ paratroopers had no Sten submachine guns in this epic shootout against SS soldiers and Gestapo officials. Germans ambushed them early in the morning indeed. Paratroopers had only pistols and possible some hand grenades with. They had no chance against better armed Germans but they fought with big bravery till the bitter end. Big respect for those men.

You sure about that?
this and the original Operation Daybreak have become two of my favorites. thank you for sharing this
Tim Munsey Operation Daybreak is not original..check Atentát (The Assassination) from 1964..
bourlivak88 until today i always believed Operation Daybreak to be the original. is The Assassination in print still or will it be here on CZcams? I would love to see it
No thats like already third movie or so
@@17MrLeon There were some films created during war already (one from renowned Fritz Lang), but those of course have very little to do with the real event.
The Man with the Iron Heart is good too. I personally prefer Anthropoid but it's another film based on the same events that's also really well done.
Nazis have literal stormtrooper aim.
Pun only realized until after I started typing this
This was one intensely suspenseful and seamlessly crafted WW2 thrillers thats strict attention to detail really shows. Ive watched it time and time again (especially the church siege segment.) But from doing so, the only real issue I have noticed is how all the German soldiers seem to be played by what are presumably reenactors (seeing as they are all overweight and middle aged.)
You need to take into account that all those Germans were occupying forces. The best soldiers were at the front lines, these guys were simply "peacekeepers", mostly old veterans from WWI whose only job was to "be there" and eat Czech food and fuck Czech hookers. Same case with the Slovak National Uprising, that's why it was so successful at first and then quickly crushed when the Germans called back the elite units from the Eastern front to crush it. I don't mean to say that the SNU was pointless, on the contrary, it forced some of the best German divisions to go back, which made the Russian advance that much easier.
It does in a lot of instances but the three in the top of the church actually died from grenades with 1 dying instantly and 2 being mortally wounded, and in the crypt there was a similar wave after wave style attack before the water or grenades go in and the water itself barely reached above ankle level by the time they killed themselves in real life
Pretty sure Germans were smart enough to realize that tables don't stop bullets.
Well they do, they had only pistols.
...you do realize those USSR numbers are beefed up massively by civilian losses?
Military casualties {killed, wounded, captured, and missing} on the Eastern amounted to 6,225,000 Germans compared to 26,000,000 Soviets. Which works out to a 4:1 ratio in favor of the Germans. In North Africa, Italy, and the Western Front the ratio was nearly 1:1.
... military casulties of Soviets on the Eastern front were: 1.6 milion KIA, some 4 milion killed as POW, some 1 milion POWs survived. Rest were civilians. Civilians, not military casulties. Wounded do not (and cannot) be accounted for wounded. I mean seriously - how do you want to meassure a wounded person? You can be wounded many times over, that is not a statistical trait.
Or its to set the bipod on.
Wow, this shootout was a world war within a world war. They gave it everything they had, plus 200%. This is hardcore beef.
Such a great film, watched it last night
They fought until the end. Some of the bravest heroes of World War 2 👏 🇨🇿🇸🇰
The movie was pretty historically accurate, even the guns are based on the year it happened. I recommend watching it
It's not that close. Gabcik girl did not die, Cruda was not present at the assassination and the way they died at the shootout was completely different, though the heroic nature of said 7 hour shootout is there
"Hans, should ve load zeh belt BEFORE running into zeh line of fire?"
"Nine, I vouldn't vorry about it"
kid with pistol scores 3 kills. MG dudes can't get one.
actually when they start shooting at the beginning, 2 or 3 germans are killed immediately..it´s just barely visible because the camera cuts so quickly..you can see their bodies later on in this scene though.
In the real event 7 of them held of 750 SS for 6 hours. Reports have it as 14 SS dead, 24 wounded or thereabouts. Sure there's some artistic licence here but this movie is overall very accurate.
What reports? The only official one is gestapo report that speaks about 4 wounded only. It can be questioned as it was in gestapo's interest to downplay any possible casualties but on the other hand there is no other evidence it would be incorrect. Para's had no grenades (lost them during the parachute drop) and most likely they had no submachine guns either. The most probable version is they had pistols and a few mags only.
germanSS always lowered they losses...always... very drasticaly.
Aleš Z yeah because that's what holds off 750 SS soldiers for 6 hours, forcing them to flood the basement of the Church.
This movie is crazy. I saw "Operation Day Break"...the original but the shootout in this movie is insane. This scene ain't all. You have to watch it imo. I felt like I was in the middle of it lol
Operation Daybreak is many things, but definitely not "the original". It fact it is completely terrible movie, that completely lacks historical accuracy and presents it more like a western of some kind. If we talk about "the original", than we should talk about 1964 czechoslovakian movie Atentát (The Assasination).
Watch Anthropoid on Blu-ray with a sound bar and subwoofer. The church shootout is insane. It feels like you're there.
@@tommy1138 lol that's exactly how I watched it man!
Damn, Viserys Targeryen sure knows how to use that 1911.
1903 not 1911
Doesn't even look remotely close like a Colt 1911. Dumbass. It's a 1903.
FN-Browning 1903, not a 1911
No, he's father of David Haller (Legion S3). I mean Harry Charles Salisbury Lloyd.
No soldier would ever flip a table into an open room for cover, not believable.
Allied bias
they obviously flipped it not for cover, but for the MG-34 to use it's bipod to suppress the paratroopers
Nemůžu se dočkat české premiery.

Not sure if this is accurate but I read somewhere that the SS took no losses during the shoot out . In reality , the Germans aren’t stupid and won’t walk into a church knowing that the Czechs have high ground . Instead it was a few pop shots through windows and at the structure of the church . Also the stalemate took hours I heard. The Germans eventually gassed and flooded them out
There was an intense shootout inside the church. To this day there are bullets to be found in the furniture and you can identify the covered bulletholes here and there inside on the walls and floors if you know where to look-I watched a documentary on TV with details.... in Czech.
True, the SS reports quoted only wounded SS inside the church, not dead.
They had at least 14 dead
this germans soldiers are as good as in cod XD
5-8 grenades with machine gun cover and that's it

Our boy\s had only pistols during the shooting and only cca 2 magazines per pistol. Several pistols were in 7,365 Browning, one even in 6,35. Several in 9 mm Luger. It was 7 against 700. Real czechoslovak Thermopylae.
1.02 they went into a gunfight with an unloaded weapon and then loaded it in the open while the enemy are shooting at them? anyone else think this a bit stupid and unlikely?
Does anyone know where to find info on German casualties in this shootout?
First of all. There were 7 Czechoslovak paratroopers armed with pistols (only) against 800 Nazi soldiers. There were no casualties (only injured) on Nazi side. But the whole shootout took about 7 hours.
Whats the name of the actor at 0:19 shooting the pistol?
Thats Cillian Murphy roled as Jozef Gabčík
His name is Harry Lloyd, he played Viserys Targeryen in Game of Thrones
Thank you very much for this upload. The fight scene between SS and CZ paratroopers is really intense one. I noticed at the beginning one SS soldier saying "Jawohl Herr Oberleutnant". I think this rank was typical for Wehrmacht, in SS there was "Obersturmführer" instead of Oberleutnant.
Nice catch, that is correct. It is plausible that there could have been an Wehrmacht Lt, but I don't see them in any of the frames. His uniform would have been Dark Green. I do know towards the later end of the war, Kampfgruppen were very common as a mash up of SS, Heer, Luftwaffe, and even Kreigsmarine units.
@@bber45 Thanks for your comment. This note about german Kampfgruppen in the late phase of WWII is correct also. As far as I know according to the books and official documents this was just SS and Gestapo action, no Wehrmacht units were involved in this epic fight in Prague.

Not even close to how actual events went down, those Partisans were annihilated even worse than shown here. Still, it was a good movie!
La Sainte MG
Why didn't the German load the gun before entering the church?
It's a good movie but the ending is a bit inaccurate they didn't have machine guns in the church nor did the Germans put mg34 there
Wait... Fighting isn't allowed in churches right?
Wrong, such is legal if enemies occupy the building. For example you are technically not allowed to blow up a church tower from afar, but only as long as the enemy is not using it as an observation post. Of the top of my head I know that the British paras that killed Reinhard Heydrich ended up on church grounds as their final stand. Edit: Oh, this clip is based on that, hahah, well the final stand was actually underground. Not inside the church like depicted here.
How did the SS come to know for certain the place where the three heros were hiding
This has to be one of the dumbest operations of the entire war. The Czechs begged them not to do it. The result was the assassins dead, their whole families murdered, 5000 Czechs executed, hundreds more tortured and two whole villages wiped off the face of the earth. And it did nothing to hasten the end of the war or to stop the holocaust. Just plain dumb.
Yeah and they weren't really prepared for it. Why would they even go for a public assassination anyway? Smh
really ?
it was a british plan ..
kill reinhard cuz his presence was making czech production work very well
to dent the german war effort they decided to kill him, the brits knew the nazis will be mad and kill a lot of people, and they knew that upon hearing this the czech will hate the nazis more than ever
that was their plan from the beginning
Machine guns are generally a waste of ammunition.
Not if you understand how they're deployed.
MG's were used as support weapon, to pin down enemy to restrict them from firing. Fireteams were provided cover to come close to eliminate the enemy.
it was not like this... its just a movie...
Shit submachine gun technique.
Operation Daybreak was better (1975) :-)
Alles für Deutschland
Wow. Can people please make movies a tiny bit more realistic. If your In a shootout & you kill about 50 people in your area, how can you then say you're out of bullets?! Hello!!! There's no less than 5 enemy machine guns about 5ft. in front of you, magazines and all. Give me a break
ucnhtmenow1 Funny you say because this movie is about the true story of operation anthropoid and is very historically accurate.
Excuse me, but as a citizen of Czech Republic (previously a part of Czechoslowakia), I must say, this is real. The movie is based on historical facts. Those men, who took part in Operation Anthropoid in 1942, were able to defend the church, where they were hiding, for 6 whole hours. They were, of course, good equipped, but also, there were only seven men, fighting to death, against Nazis and their superiority.
Yea no shyt captain obvious. Did you even read my comment?! It had nothing to do with the story but with the special effects. Big difference.
ucnhtmenow1 what?! Your comment mentioned nothing of special effects it talked about how they didn't grab guns that were near them instead stating they were out of ammo. They knew they were going to die they were only going until they ran out, that's why they saved the last bullet for themselves. Once again you can't tell someone to try harder at making a movie more realistic when it is already a retelling of real historical events and how they happened dumb ass.
ucnhtmenow1 also the guns the Germans were using weren't machine guns but rifles so the ammo wouldn't be able to be used for the sten machine guns they were using and why they didn't go for the rifle I already told you in the other comment.
You're still a dumbass
HHhH was a more interesting movie, but Anthropoid had a better final battle.
HHhH Is nonhistorical bullshit..
if reinhard heydrich still alive ..no israel today 👍🏻
Don’t know why they ruined a great historically accurate portrayal of a great plot/plan with a completely false and unrealistic fight scene. Ruined the whole movie and dishonored those men’s action by such a fake Hollywood shootout scene.
Well said.
To give credit the fight scene here was actually well done and wasn't too Hollywood. yes it was exaggerated but thats what people want to see. I mean I saw recent action or films like Fury and the soldiers and fight scenes are cringe. This was actually well done.
