    Something to keep in mind is lots of products or brands are cruelty free but are owned by a company that is not. Take Dove for example. They say they are cruelty free but are owned by Unilever which is not. So your money is still going to a company that tests on animals.

    Cassandra or Anyone Here, I’m curious about the first skin care / personal care brand (or company) to be brave enough to be different and go 100% cruelty free. Today we take this for granted, but it was groundbreaking at one time. Took real courage to have a conscience. Animals even today are still seen as beings to exploit. Back then everyone had the “It’s just the way things are done” mindset. Even though people didn’t like it, they were not going to do anything about it. Is the first company still around? Who in the company made it happen? Was there backlash? How did they cope? That would be an interesting story…

    From what I read on the leaping bunny website NO the labs are not checked, NOBODY goes to the actual labs, they just ask for a receipt of the purchase they made to their suppliers, its written on their website.

    Sometimes I look for certification. Or sometimes I just look at the ingredients list and see if there are ingredients that are more likely to animal derived or animal created like lanolin, collagen, ceramide, honey, beeswaxs, etc. Sometimes just not having those kinda comes close to being vegan or cruelty free or at least vegetarian. Also, check for brands that likes to use plant sounding stuff for its brand name or products. I found a shampoo from a brand that is against animal testing even if the product itself is not certified vegan or cruelty free and sometimes that is the best you can find.

      In a sense, a product could technically be free of animal-derived ingredients. But if that product is made by a brand that tests on animals, I don't think it would be considered vegan because veganism is about reducing animal exploitation, and animal testing definitely exploits animals!

    • @googlefifi001
      @googlefifi001 Před rokem +5

      as someone who works in a drug store, there’s difference between “vegan” and “cruelty free”, vegan means the ingredients and cruelty free means how it was tested, so something can be “vegan” but not cruelty free… like a lot of maybelines new releases:( it’s so misleading

    • @Samantha-zu3qe
      @Samantha-zu3qe Před rokem +5

      A product could be “vegan” in that it doesn’t have any animal products, by-products, ingredients that aren’t tested in animals, and the company doesn’t test on animals themselves, but then it’s tested on animals in order to sell in mainland China. Not cruelty free, but vegan in that the product you bought hasn’t harmed an animal directly, but also it’s supporting a brand that sells in China or tests other products on animals. Basically its complicated

      That's because animals are inherently innocent and vulnerable, and adult humans are not. There was a test done to evaluate the levels of people's emotional reactions: Subjects were told of hypothetical scenarios wherein an adult man, a human child, an adult dog, and a puppy were all beaten to death by a criminal/abuser. In the cases of the child, the dog and the puppy, the emotional response of the subjects was significantly more than hearing about the adult human. This is because adult humans are understood, with some exceptions such as disabled persons, to be capable of understanding threats and then defending themselves. Dogs, children and puppies are all similarly dependent upon us for love, care and guidance. They are vulnerable and incapable of voicing any opposition.

      Well animal testing is not reliable to certify products being safe for humans either. Read on PETA's website about that. When a product is claimed safe for animals it mostly has a 3-10% chance of being safe for humans - at best. Just like the quote you're gonna find: "We have cured cancer in mice for decades but it just doesn't work that way for humans". Animal testing is just a way for companies to shield themselves from lawsuits in case of customer's skin reactions.
