I started reading the Usagi series a couple years ago and it's easily my favorite comic of all time now. I was actually a little upset that I had completely caught up on it because I never wanted the adventures to end! The amount of love that Stan Sakai puts into the series is so evident and all these years later, he hasn't let up. Who else can say they've worked on a comic that long and the quality never really wavered? What a legacy to leave behind. Great video too, thanks!
i still have 2figures through the years of Usagi Yojimbo one in samurai armor and the tall one with the Geishu clan kimono and swords as well i plan on getting as many as i possibly can Usagi has a great impact on my life like Frank Herbert's DUNE i read when i was 4 years old and understood it from end to end when other kids was reading highlights and Dr.Seuss i was in deep into the story of Paul Atreides, and this is the biggest reason why i really love Usagi Yojimbo in all facets of his story even if Stan San made a comic of Usagi Yojimbo being a surfer or a SLIDER aka dimensional traveler full time i would love to see them all, even if Usagi had his own AM and FM radio Channel and even if it is all staticy id listen to it all day and night doing narrations of his adventures like the classic old time radio shows from the 1930's and 40's id record all fo them.
OH MY GIGACHU THAT COOL HUGE PLUSH OR SUIT OF Usagi Yojimbo WOULD BE AN ULTRA TREASURE, i really love the cyan coloring on Usagi in the panel that is being used in the background im grateful to Stan Sakai San for this beautiful comic storyline and visual novels you can learn so much from each novel a sweet blessed treasure they all are, i tried to draw something to honor Usagi Yojimbo to honor him i tried several times but i think i might have made something that would honor the character i hope fingers crossed i always take my time one them too and the credit goes to Stan San, just something from the heart and to say thank you to him for being a great inspiration, and id never use someone else's creation for profit either that would just be wrong and i don't do that, and id never dishonor Usagi by going after a show made for children id watch it cause i always cared for Usagi Yojimbo, i watch as well cause im a life long animation connoisseur a sci fi fanatic and also i love the great story premise of Usagi's descendants, the overall story in all im no man baby im just an artist who appreciates great art and story one day when i do have children id read all of the novels and series to them i just hope Netflix did not stiff Sakai San like they have done with many series over the years.

Your delivery is excellent, the editing it top notch, and the the video isn't TOO long as I find the trend for the average video essay. You definitely have a new subscriber here.
Is that why samurai chronicle did not feature the real usagi as the mai. Protagonist? Because Stan did not have full control? I thought it was Stan was over protective and did not want Usagi to be used or something?
I will say, about Samurai Rabbit, that it's not bad. It's different from the comic, but it's not bad on its own. It's a shame we couldn't get something closer to the comic, though. Maybe some day. Oddly enough, while it's geared more towards adults, I thought Blue Eye Samurai was an excellent Edo period show. If you replaced everyone with anthropmorphic characters, and took out the nudity and graphic violent, I honestly think it comes relatively close to Usagi stories. As far as being a well-researched story set in the Edo period, at least.
I would not say ue eyed Samurai was "well researched ". More like the skim through a few bits and pieces of Edo history and skipped the rest. It makes me more annoyed that we have not got a proper Usagi cartoon and closet we have to do is that stupid water down version with the weak ass descendents and also I do not take kindly to the "it is a kids cartoons" excuse because bloody Gargoyles was a "kids cartoon " but unlike chronicles it was matures and did not pull punches, so will someone bloody tell me why the f Stan and Netflix could not just produce a proper Usagi Yojimbo cartoon with the REAL USAGI!!@?

I remember playing Usagi Yojimbo on the Commodore 64. Been fascinated ever since. I even have his first TMNT action figure.

I hope someday we get a faithful animated adaptation of Usagi. I've been catching up with his tales and it has been just a fantastic read.
Absolutely agree with both points, as long as Stan Sakai has full control over it.

Which of the comics should I be buying for this? Just the Dark Horse Comics or IDW or both?
Volumes in order: Fantagraphics, Dark Horse, color era. Any single volume is accessible, though.
