    I'm just hoping that after what is going on with Netflix, Usagi Chronicles doesn't get affected or canceled too soon, though, as Samurai Rabbit is animated in another studio, like Dragon Prince, Arcane, and Green Eggs and Ham, and all the canceled Netflix cartoons were done in-house by Netflix' own (and unfortunately shafted) animation studio, I think Samurai Rabbit will last very well and after seeing it, I believe it's a great take on the Usagi Yojimbo comics and if people like shows with action and adventure like Hilda and Dragon Prince, they'll like Samurai Rabbit as well.
    Fun fact, the show is done by Gaumont, the French studio that gave the 1997 sci-fi romp The Fifth Element

    I knew you were going to review The Usagi Chronicles series and I really enjoyed Samurai Rabbit very much, what's amazing that Yuki Matsuzaki has voice Usagi Yojimbo from TMNT 2012 has return for Samurai Rabbit series.

    I have to admit I also expected something waaaaay different as I heard Netflix and Stan Sakai working on a Usagi series. And to be honest I was disappointed as I saw the first trailer and said to myself: Naaah, pass. BUT … I was bored that much right now so I just clicked on it and … inhaled the whole first season! … I really was surprised in a positive way. It‘s entertaining, it has good jokes and at the end of an episode I REALLY wanted to know what happened next. I only wished it‘d be an other animation style. Like classic anime or something like Beastars if we talk about computer animated anime. But the style is ok and I definitely would watch season 2.

    I just finished it today actually. It's definitely not what I was expecting, but not as bad as I was expecting. Probably a 5 or 7/10, I've definitely seen worse.

    future spin-off of a classic comic with new versions of legacy characters and a new younger hero taking up the mantle....so it's the Batman Beyond edition of Usagi Yojimbo.
    I'm down for that.

    I just finished the season and I overall liked it. I would have preferred an adaptation of the feudal Japan world of the comics but, for a spin-off, I still found it to be a pleasant watch. I like the main characters and I'm interested in seeing where the show goes. Hopefully they will give the characters some more development in Season 2, especially Kitsune.
    It definitely felt like it was trying to follow in the spirit of the 2012 TMNT series. Would have liked to seen more of Miyamoto Usagi definitely.
    Honestly my biggest criticisms are that the action usually felt a bit stiff and awkward at times. There are some fun moments but some of it didn't feel like it had an impact. I know this is a "kid's show" but the 2012 TMNT series, which I felt this show was taking some vibes from, managed to have action that also felt like it had impact. Hopefully that aspect of the show can improve in the future as well.

    I was surprised that the actor voicing Gen wasn't the voice actor for Dirk on The Last Kids On Earth. They sound the same and their personalities are similar.

    Nice review! I honestly liked this series. It's not a masterpiece but i think it deserves a 7-8/10 in my opinion. The visuals and the animation are fine, especially with some characters like Karasu-Tengu, but they could have been better and the story is also good but it had the potential to be much better (some gags were just stupid). I've never read the original comic but now i am curious and i will.

    another Danish usagi fan here, not quite on your level Esh but hey we all gotaa start somewhere, as of writing this only a few episodes in but i still wanna share some thoughts, it's not as bad as i feared but so far at least it's not anything spectacular, i have a feeling i know what the twist about what happend with Miyamoto was admittedly well forshadowed if it is the case by usagi's appearence in the "flashback/allegation" of what happend and the action figures we see young gen with in one of the flashbacks, and if it does turn out to be the case im here for it, but yeah got off topic, it isen't what i expected i appreciate the yokai and all the little nods to the original comic, not super onboard with the art style and i think the characters can often easily look really derpy and the animation in the fights often seems really slow and without much energy, but i'll stick around and see if it gets better, characters so far seem pretty alright, i like chizu (even if im not totaly sold on her design but it isent terrible), she seems really interesting in this show, i actually really like gen also not what i expected, would have liked him a little gruffer but i get this is not the same gen and also a much younger one, Kitzune, is fine, i really don't have any problems with her, i like her comic counterpart better but she's ok in this so far, this usagi however, i get he's young inexpereinced and has a LOT of room to grow, but i was really unsure of him at first and still, somewhat am, i find him a little annoying at times and i think his catchphrases are unnecesarry but hey he's gotten a little better as far as i've come so we'll see, overall so far, not as bad as i thought by a longshot, but somewhat mediocre, hope it get's better as it doe's seem to be hinting at some pretty interesting and if my theory about who could show up in future if my reading of the hints are correct, IM EXCITED. ( ALSO THANK YOU, IM GLAD IM NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO WAS REMINDED OF KING JULIAN WITH LORD KOGANE)

    If you listen very closely, the actor doing Tetsujin, the bear, is the same actor who does the villain Jei in the Usagi Yojimbo/TMNT triple episode bang up. I know I am the voice.

    This sounds like it's only covering season 1, does your opinion change with the addition of season 2, and any others seasons that might follow?

    • @FictionAddiction
      @FictionAddiction  Před rokem +1

      I was sadly unable to do a particularly timely review video when the second season came out and thus ended up not doing it at all.
      The short answer is no, my thoughts on it did not change in any major way. It's a curious, more child friendly spinoff more than an adaptation, and if one can accept that it can be a decently enjoyable show, if not what most of us were likely hoping for.
      I found the idea of the show's version of Keiko being an alien robot equal parts baffling and straight up hilarious, it was nice to see the (rare) appearances of oldschool Usagi and overall I enjoyed myself fine enough.
      I still long for a "true" adaptation, but anything that brings the franchise more attention is good in my book.

    • @Elfos64
      @Elfos64 Před rokem

      @@FictionAddiction Curious to me that Stan Sakai distinctly didn't do that. Even back in the 90's when he tried to get a cartoon previously, he didn't try to adapt Miyamoto Usagi in Feudal Japan then either, he tried to adapt Space Usagi. And now when he gets a 2nd chance to adapt his franchise into animation, it's again not Miyamoto Usagi. It's as if he's deliberately avoiding adapting his main series, as if he presumably wants the comics to be their own thing and doesn't want any full series cartoons to just be the comics also. So either he eventually changes his mind about that, or we can just expect more descendants of Miyamoto, or just have to hope crossovers with TMNT go through.
      Speaking of, it's worth noting that Rise of the TMNT had no crossover with Usagi Yojimbo, and the series that had the most crossover with him, the 2003 series, was non-union. I really hope they get the legal issues that seem present with that all worked out because that seems to be the most we can expect to see of Miyamoto Usagi.

    I tried watching the show when it came out. I got up to episode 4 before I hit my breaking point. I guess it's technically not the worst thing I've ever seen, the animation is decent, and the lore, from what I got out of it, is actually pretty interesting, but the comedy, or what they're trying to pass off as comedy, is just insufferable.
