I also tried the typical method of ‘time out’ with Skye and it never worked either, she always got very confused and frustrated and would start gnawing at the carrier bars, so this made me concerned that she’d injure her teeth but also by the time she had calmed down she had pretty much forgotten why she was in their in the first place
But honestly a big factor I’ve found is to handle them as much as you possibly can, pick them up, put them down, play with them along side bite training them and they usually stop within a few days or weeks 😄

I think I may have gotten lucky with my female kit... She's only bitten me a few times since bringing her home this morning, and it was all while we were playing with toys. The first couple of bites, she stopped immediately when I 'yelped'. The last few times, she corrected herself when she realized that she was latched onto my hand instead of the toy. I'm liking this little goober more and more. Thank you for making these videos-- you convinced me to start my ferret journey!

Everything changed yesterday after seeing this video . I got more confident and relaxed . It's been 15 years since I've had a Ferret let alone a kit . Redirecting and positive rewarding both verbal and treats were validated but I changed the way I handle / play with my 4 month old Ferret Benjamin Lee while still spending a lot of time with him . I've not been bitten since . Thanks !

I used the scruffing method for my first two ferrets. It just made my female ferret use her teeth more during play and I think my male ferret just realized I wouldn't play with as much after he bit so he completely stopped. Tried time-out with my third, never worked. With my 4th I used a toy to play, stopped when he bit and otherwise showed him lots of love, spending almost all my freetime with him. He was my biggest success, mouthing during play (never biting) and even grooming my arm and head when I was laying down.

my mum says no but my dad says yeah so i did a presentation on why i’m responsible enough (eg. i have done lots of research and list loads of facts,work out how much it would cost etc)

When it comes to training my dogs i started with treats and my dogs LOVE affection so I'll also give them lots of pets rubs and kisses and i hope that helps with ferrets too
I totally agree with you.....I got my femal ferret when she was 4months old already and was in a small cage with her mum,she was biting badly when she was small but I tried time out(it worked with my cat,put her in my bedroom when she was hard to handle when she was young)but not with the ferret,she would come out after 5min,angry!but ignoring her or stop playing with her does work!still after 2years she mostly plays softly but sometime she can still be nasty and to the dogs to,and the dogs when she ready hurts them they will tell her off.....then she runs away and or goes to sleep or goes and play alone elsewhere.....so she does the same!when she doesn't like it she walked away or ignore.....

Having trouble trying to get mine to quit biting, sometimes he just gets really riled up and starts CHOMPING. I can get him to settle down and just nip, he's still young so I figure he's just playing. He doesn't hiss or anything. Now I'm having trouble with litter training. Had him doing good for a while but he will poop in every corner but the litter box it seems, no matter what corner I move it to
My dog Chase does the same thing where he finds me! My dad says, “Where’s Samaya?” And says it over and over again until he finds me:
The timeout also didn't work for me since she just spent the whole time trying to get out and when she calmed down and I let her out she bit me even harder so she obviously didn't learn anything. I also did not know though that scruffing was bad and I feel awful I ever did it. Thank you for this video

its pretty simple. you have to build trust with them. you have to show them that you love them and you will not hurt them. then they trust you and give you kisses instead of biting you.

I just got two males 2 months old, one of my farrets broke skin and he wouldn’t unlatch how would you get him off if this happens again?
Thank you for this!! I adopted my ferret Maple who is a year old, as she gets more “playful” and overly excited shes been biting a lot more to the point it draws blood. Putting her in time out isnt working, and I have tried scruffing a few times but I hate doing that so thats why I started putting her in time out and it works for a lil but then she goes back to biting. Whenever I take her out she seems to know she did wrong tho and licks my face a bunch which I give her a treat for but I also dont want her to associate treats with biting and stuff. Any tips??:((
Give her treats when she licks and does good behavior it will be associated with that not the biting

[Mod] Kibble fed ferrets need 24/7 access to food. Raw it depends on age and any conditions they may have.
My little boy use to nip hard as a baby but he learned if you bite no playtime or attention he hated being ignored would come over after bitting and I'd pick him up and put him down away from me after a while he got out of it now hes a year old loves to play ruff but never bites hard and knows the difference between my hand and his toys

I have 2 ferrets (soda and mocha) mocha is such a bad biter :( , she gets near our feet and will bite the hell out ya, all we do is blow on their nose, is that ok?
I took 2 ferrets(boys), they are 6 months old, one of them are just nipping and there is no problem, but other one is bitting and when I say biting - till blood. Only thing he wants to do is to bite, bites and not letting go, last time I needed to put him under sink water as he wasn't letting go and blood just was coming everywhere. My boy doesnt really bite hard he more nips but hes still young he will attack my foot and I say bite my toe but it never really hurts. So I suppose this is in a good position?
I really hate when people tell a animal to stop and if they don't they hit them, then say "it's there fault I told them to stop" like they can understand English. You won't let a person who doesn't speak the same language to stop and expect them to know what you're saying.

I recently got a polecat hybrid, and he is very sweet.
He will occasionally let him give him head scratches and sniff me when I play with his toys.
However sometimes out of no warning he’ll try and latch on, and it makes me wary of even trying to play.
The breeders I got him from say he can be feisty.
I brought him yesterday and he’s 5 months old, is he too old to start this way of nip training?
Because they haven’t even taught him how to use his litter box, so I’m basically starting from scratch.
I brought some gloves for now because he will try biting anyone that goes near him apart from me, at times.
And I can’t even teach him to use the litter box as he spends most of his time trying to bite.
Any tips?

I am very stressed about my new ferret that we just adopted. She is just 2 months old but she has bitten me three times over the past two days and made me bleed. I have tried scruffing, it didn’t work. She became upset with me and bit me immediately after. I tried time out and it didn’t work. I just don’t know what to do because my other ferret is extremely easy going and has never bitten me this hard.

Hey I’m thinking about getting 2 ferrets and I’m am quite young but I do run a jewelry business and I baby sit and I was just wondering if u know any other good ferret you tubers because I can’t find any other ones and if u think I should get one I bring in around $50 a month and my sister brings in around $25 and my parents are willing to give $50 a month and I would feed them ziwi peak and some raw but I can’t fully feed raw unfortunately and I would get a critter nation and us oat baths to bathe them should I get one and if I should is there any thing I need to improve.

They don’t need baths and they are really expensive so I’m not sure all that money will help

Hey Bryn just a quick question: do you have to give your ferrets an oatmeal bath or do you not have to and would it be ok if you never do it?
im not bryn but i believe she said in one of her last videos that she used to endorse oatmeal bathes but only when absolutely needed. She even said she would probably never bathe her ferrets again because for most things that get stuck on their fur, you could just use a damp paper towel to wipe off something that may be stuck on them :)
[Mod] Oatmeal baths are good if absolutely necessary. But unless they are covered in literal feces, you probably should avoid giving a bath!

Hello, I am afraid ferret socialization with humans is not done as training, it is achieved during the imprint. If ferrets are handled and raised by humans after 2nd or 3rd week of life, they wont see humans as threats. If you try to train a ferret that was not imprint with humans you're losing your time, and first of all you have no clue of what you're talking about. You may get the ferret used to handling, but he will bite if he feels threatened again. Some Marshall ferrets are not raised to be pets, and sill get into the pet trade. These poor little ferrets dont just bite, they can be mean and really harm you, piercing your skin every time they have the chance to reach your hand. Always use protection gloves when handling a non friendly ferret. And just leave them alone, there are ways you can stimulate a mean ferret, and you dont have to touch it, or pet it. Just let him be on his own, not all ferrets need human interaction!
