It's so difficult to tell exactly how many pokemon cards are printed. The information is kept under wraps. Print Run can certainly have an impact on our Pokemon Investments.
In this video, I explore just how many Giratina V alt arts could be out there!

I think that the future of the cards from an investment standpoint has a lot more to do with the future of the entire pokemon IP. How are the games doing? How is the new anime? Are they releasing new movies and innovating in other ways. History shows us that they know what they are doing and the IP is here to stay.

Oh yeah I’m a teacher too and at my school the kids can’t afford real cards and they have a bunch of fake cards based on the real Pokémon TCG so I think these kids will grow up to want to collect those gems cards 💎 in the future for sure!! even with pop reports being skyrocketed
It's crazy how the fake cards circulate!
I'm 29 and I like all sorts of music but 60's rock will always have my heart, I grew up listening to it in my Dad's car, got my own band too and I can play guitar and drums!
As for alt arts I just think they are such an obvious play, I think a lot of the PSA 10's will end up in permanent collections and I think there's more people in the hobby now than ever before so the rarity is proportionate and Pokemon have done a fairly good job at navigating this. As the boxes get more expensive the pop reports will slow down and I think we've probably already seen the bulk of the 10s
Maybe I'm just an eternal optimist but I'd rather pick these cards up and them remain stagnant than to not have them and miss out! I can't see them ever losing a tonne of value
As a school teacher I can tell you that most of these printed cards get wrecked by kids and don’t last. I literally saw a Moonbreon card folded in half …I called the kids parents that same night to tell them what he did. They had no idea his cards had any monetary value.
I totally agree. My kids trade their cards for some high value SWSH alt arts and they are completely trashed. Also tons and tons of fake cards floating around schools so I’ve taught my kids how to spot fakes.
The only reason they have value is attrition, it's fairly important that some of them get destroyed, if they were all preserved in top loaders the market would be rough long term.
Just like sealed , if only adults bought cases and stashed them safely away , the value would stay low your entire lifetime.
It's important part of the market, I would encourage them to destroy them lol
Base set zard would be worthless if everyone preserved them , there was a ton of them printed.
"Wow is wish I saved those cards" is a sentiment that created the crazy value
The whole stash and preserve culture is not healthy for the market long term , scarcity will never come
The value made me learn and jump into it. A bit sad, but I don't want to see another $50 card being traded for a folded, stained, creased 10 cent card.
Sad, because kids should be kids discovering their own stuff, the money and value however is not a kid's game.
Yep, the guys kids from work love bringing their cards in to show me and there's heaps of fakes in their binders. Also, a Machamp V alt from Astral Radiance crinkled to near worthlessness 😮💨
You also need to consider that there is the possibility of reprints included in the numbers for sets in the prior year. Take for instance Lost Origins. We can confirm that it was a reprint based on the fact that all packs now have black boarded code cards. Unless they had preprinted sheets just laying around waiting. So if Lost Origins was reprinted then those numbers would be reflected in this years print numbers and not last years. Just a theory but we will never know for sure how they decide on how much to print for each set. Im sure there is a set number.
Good point mate. That's why I subtracted 1.8 billion from previous years sets like fusion strikes 2nd wave and evolving skies 2nd wave. All just estimations but I think the end point is somewhat plausible 👌

Not sure if the high supply with have the same impact as other chase cards because every Giratina V Alt i look at is mad offcentered, i bought recently a decent one after days of scratching through tons of raw ones, felt like 1 out of 15-20 was flawless. If PSA does get strict i dont think we see much supply in PSA 10
We'll have to wait and see I guess. The PSA pop is climbing though!

And code cards, vstar, promo, etc. To say it's guess work is a massive understatement.
@jarodalden1394 there's already over 4,700 graded at PSA, plus the backlog, plus all other grading services, CGC, BGS etc. And there's a heap not graded, of course, and a heap still sealed. It is guesswork at best, I agree. But I stand by the position, there would be somewhere north of 100,000. Especially after the reprint. If only they would release the info for us hey!

Does it matter too much considering the data on graded cards is readily accessible? A PSA 10 may as well be a completely separate type of card based off of the difference in price from a PSA 9 > ungraded version. I'd be more focused on there being (for saying sake) 5k PSA 10s in 20 years time, as oppose to 100k of the card itself printed, if that makes sense. Also, wholly agree with the comment below on the wider success of the Pokemon IP, the TCG has massively benefited from Pokemon GO, covid (nostalgia!) etc. The 10th generation of Pokemon games will be huge and will come slightly before the 30th anniversary of the TCG which should be great, however wider than that they've experimented with and had/having some success with Pokemon Legends, Pokemon Unite etc. I'm personally wishing for a Pokemon VR! What better game to really kickstart VR gaming to the masses, and looking at Nintendo's console history I absolutely believe this is something they would explore. They've recently filed a patent for a type of VR tech too... fingers crossed.

Looking at PSA Pop's of all Gold stars and Crystals they seemed to have a similar print run. However the 100k plus of each card means only 1/100th of those cards ever made have gone to PSA... Seems low but maybe there are many Ray Gold Stars and Crystal Charizards chilling in attics and bedrooms / lost to time.
Maybe we over-expose ourselves to this hobby and to any normal person they don't have a clue or care what grading is. The truth is probably somewhere in the middle.
I like your points. Ex era was obviously printed a heap less than now. But the odds of pulling a gold star was similar to the odds of pulling an alt art, about 1 in 3.6 booster boxes. However there's normally only 2 or 3 gold stars per set compared to some Sword and Shield sets that have 10 alt arts or more. So it's very plausible there's that many gold star copies 👌

Interesting analysis. When you think about how many Pokémon cards being are being printed now - the Supply side of the equation feels crazy high. However, let’s look at the Demand side.
I’m gonna geek out for a moment so please forgive me.
The World population is about 8.1B. How many kids and adults touch a Pokémon card (either as a player, collector or consumer) in a given year? Even if it is 1/8 of a percent (.00125) - that’s about 10M people worldwide. Lets now cut that in HALF to 5M people. With 9.7M cards printed in the last year/5M people - that’s about 2 cards per consumer/collector. With the annual world population growing at a 1% increase (about 75M people/year), I am confident that the demand for Pokémon IP will continue.
Finally, to tie this back to the original topic - 111k Giratina Alt Arts potentially printed - that’s about one graded or ungraded Giratina Alt Art 45/consumers.
PSA has about 5,500 of these cards graded in different languages so that is about one PSA graded card per 900 collectors/consumers. About half of all PSA graded cards are PSA 10s. At the end of the day, I personally think it’s one of the top best looking Pokémon cards ever printed. (Which is why we own two of them 😜).
Curious to what all of you think about my logic here.
At the moment, there's definitely huge demand for this card. I can also tell you now there's still alt arts in kids hands and binders that are in terrible condition. I think demand will remain strong for this card. It's one of the nicest looking main set pokemon cards ever printed and extremely unique 👌
I’m super bullish on this card. It is incredible in person. Phenomenal art. Unique and literally this card alone has been so good it reignited popularity in giratina. I love your numerical analysis. I agree I don’t think we understand just how huge the pokemon market is and how many people are collecting. Also there are so many more adults in the hobby than the original WOTC era. Adults throw around more money and buy larger quantities of cards

This seems crazy that there is over 100K printed for 300$ i wonder how many packs they open to get the number was it 732? I never looked at Pokémon in that way before.
They open 10s of thousands of packa to try and get the data as accurate as possible 👌
The answer is much simpler.....not enough! Haha. 1200 packs in and still no Alt 'tina for me!

Hi Pokeoz, something that no one seems to have mentioned is the stack of 60 energy cards that comes in every single elite trainer box and as we know elite trainer boxes are printed more than any other item, so how many of those stack of 60 energy cards in elite trainer boxes count towards the 9.7 billion cards printed?
Thanks for pointing that out. I would imagine a fair few. I'm also not certain on the 60 percent being English and 40 percent other languages. It could be more like 70/30. Either way, I think 100k plus is a fair estimate 👌

It is harder to find good new music these days. I’ve been listening to a lot of 70’s Japanese jazz lately. Japan had a really nice flare to add to the jazz scene in that era. Cat Hiroshi Suzuki is a good starting point to find other related artists.
I love rock n roll. Some of my favorites are The Misfits, Metallica, and Sodom. More of a metal head than anything. Anything to punk, pop punk, thrash metal, metalcore, death metal, deathcore. All of it. My favorite band rn is Spite.
Metallica always gives me chills seeing them perform live!

the specimens encased in 10 grade will be the only ones that matter, lets say... half of 150k get damaged and 10% of those are 10 worthy

Poor analysis. They did not open “10s of thousands of packs” to get 1/720. It says on the bottom of the Tcg image “data gathered from 8000 packs”. 8000 packs is nowhere near a large enough sample size to make a reliable estimate on supposedly 800 million lost origin cards.
Are you able to find a larger sample size to make it more accurate? I'm yet to find one.

And all this "math" is assuming they print the same amount of each card in each rarity. Which honestly I don't think is the case. If it was it would negate the need for rarities. Or maybe I'm flat wrong. 🤷🏼♂️
Good old Silverchair! Well, the odds of pulling giratina is 1/720 packs. What is impossible to work out is how many of the "estimated" 800 million cards printed account for decks and energies, which would of course, skew the calculation.

@@pokeoz91Yeah I think so, danny phantump did a similar video and worked out similar to you, also worked out the gold star cards from back in the day and theres a similar amount of them too. Cards get lost, damaged, and in reality 100+k aint anything given the worldwide population lol

That's so wrong I just can't stand it haha.
1) packs include 11 cards, so you are supposed to divide by 11
2) you forgot about all the promos from collection boxes/tins/blisters that were printed heavily in 2022
3) The big missing part is stacks of energy cards and decks from build&battle and also decks as a final product that doesn't consist of boosters at all.
I give it 30k cards in total the 10k of which are still in sealed products
There's 10 cards in Lost Origin Booster Packs (and 1 energy or v star marker). I agree all the energies from ETBs and decks would skew this calculation a touch. There's already been over 4,700 Giratina Vs graded in English at PSA. This doesn't include all in the back log just at PSA. So there's no way, there's 30k total, that would assume close to a 5th of all Giratina Vs are graded at PSA, let alone other grading companies. I stand by the estimation there would be somewhere north of 100k. But, again, it's just an estimation. Thanks for the feedback, though. I could be aiming a touch high.
