- Aaron Rodgers gets the first extensive action of his NFL career after Brett Favre suffers an elbow injury mid-2nd quarter, as Green Bay faces Dallas in a Thursday night battle of 10-1 teams, that ends up deciding the #1-seed in the NFC playoffs down the line.
"The Packers aren't going to win a whole lot of games with Aaron Rodgers at quarterback."
- Cris Collinsworth, 2007.
I came here just for that. I remember watching the game live and just going smh he was a 1st rounder. We dont know what he's capable of.
Meanwhile Romo a undrafted free agent was the Cowboys' Franchise QB for years to come.
@@RubensBarrichello. I saw this game live but I was 15 and forget a lot. I do remember though having a sinking feeling when Favre got injured but after this game felt excited for Rodgers. He balled out.
@@openingband what was more sinking, was seeing most likely our only shot at a team going undefeated, lose the SB to a wild card team.

This stands out as one of the most significant of any Packer games. They faced the Cowboys in the old Dallas stadium something like 8 times during the Holmgren years, and lost, every, single, time. I had stopped watching them after the 4th & 26 debacle in '04 and tuned in just to see what would happen... The rest is history.
Things changed drastically

I remember people were so mad this game was on NFL Network cuz barely anyone had it.
I rrally wish there would be no NFL games on cable. No exclusive games on ESPN and NFLN!

i guess I am kind of randomly asking but does anybody know of a good site to watch new series online?
@Victor Graysen i use FlixZone. Just google for it :)
Brett's face all night said "I'm getting Drew Bledsoe'd right now!!"
He was getting flashbacks of himself stepping in for Don Majkowski.
@@noodle_knight lol no doubt!
Rodgers’ first legit NFL action, so awesome to see! Do you have Packers-Cowboys divisional playoff from the 2016 season by any chance?
Ober it's already on CZcams
I'd like to forget that damn game.
Kinda ironic his first lost was to Dallas first action now he just owes they ass expectually n the 4th quarter
his career in Green Bay started with a coach going for field goal instead of going for it and ...same thing now
Both of these teams fought for the NFC’s #1 seed and yet they would be defeated by the New York Giants when it was all said and done.
That was crazy lol. I remember this season and at this point of it, the giants weren't on ANYONE'S radar...
The Cowboys defeated the Giants twice in the regular season. It's exceedingly difficult to beat a team three times in the same season.
two long time kickers in their rookie seasons here. A lot of big names in this game
This game was going to get high ratings but not many Americans had NFL Network on their tv providers at that time.
I ordered it just for this game.
I had just started a new job and my co worker at the time couldn't watch it because he didn't have direct TV he told me he was a packers fan I invited him to my house to watch the game drank some brews my team kicked ass we been friends ever since ..good times 🍺 I miss these days
And to everybody who says Joe Buck sucks at Play-By-Play announcing, I would argue that Bryant Gumbel is worse with him. Compare Bryant to Buck doing Thursday Night Football now and it is not even close....
People who say Joe Buck sucks either have no idea what they are talking about or are living in a different decade.
Do I need to explain to your simple ass that someone being worse doesn't mean Buck doesn't suck?
Joe buck sometimes says corny shit but he is very good at his job.
Does Bryant gumbel have any other tone then monotone. If the game wasnt so good hed put me to sleep. Thank god he doesnt call games anymore
I remember not having NFL network then (time Warner didn’t have it), and my friend had to tape it on VHS for us to watch it. Those were fun times I still remember the build up that week to this game!

Nice seeing coach Al Harris battling with T. O.
This proved to best the last time Cowboys would defeat Packers @ Home. Packers are currently undefeated @ ATT.
Crazy he Rodgers waited 3 years to finally get the starting job
He had no choice. He's a player, not the coach.
Because favre was built up to be an icon by that point, not saying I like the guy just stating facts
It was because Rodgers wasn't good his 1st 2+ years. When he played in relief in '05 & '06 he struggled & looked not ready. This was the 1st time he looked decent.
Favre, Rodgers and Romo all playing in one classic ass game.. only one missing is the new bigdog on the block, Patrick Mahomes.. all gun slingers with similar styles..

1:43:00-1:43:03: A sign of a things to come for the Cowboys a Month Later🤣🤣🤣🤣
Thanks for posting this! I wonder how many fans remember this game? I remember being so eager to see Rodgers play for the same reasons that wild ass Favre demonstrated in this game before going out with injury. I knew Rodgers would prove himself some day, and when Favre went out, I’m sure most fans slunk back in their chairs while I sat straight up thinking “YES! People will finally get to see what this guy can do.” This game validated he was legit and then some, and should have acted as a shot heard around the NFL world of what was to come.
Do you feel the same way about Jordan Love?
No. It's really apples and oranges; a different offense with (it sounds like) more off a running game with less dependence on the QB. This also means the defense better improve, and the Packers did absolutely nothing to help themselves where they have been carrying second-team talent for years. So whether it's Jordan or Aaron, it won't make any difference if D is getting rolled up, San Fransisco has provided the blue print.
I remember this game pretty vividly. Such a hyped game going into it and a real measuring stick which was a real bummer when Brett was throwing the game away. I remember me and the old man were upset at that but when he got hurt the air was taken out of us even more. Aaron had struggled mostly with his opportunities until this point but he quickly changed the narrative on himself as Colinsworth put it best the future looked a lot brighter then the day previous. Favre had an amazing year and he's a big reason why they went 13-3 that season but can't help but think that Rodgers would have been better suited to lead us against the Giants and that was the immediate takeaway after the season ended was we really could of used a smarter and more disciplined QB in that game. Was Team Ted Thompson right out the gate in Summer of 08' it was time and what a great decision that was made going forward. Really unfortunate and what doesn't get talked about enough was Aaron before 2008 season and all the crap he took. Not sure anyone else could have handled it better.
2007 Cowboys are one of the best trench teams of the last 20 years. #90 Ratcliffe, #99 Chris Canty, Got Greg Ellis double digit sacks AND Demarcus Ware HOF on the edges. The OLine was so good they could run all day on the Giants Vaunted SB winning D line in all 3 games, including the Playoff loss. The 07 Cowboys were better then the 18 win Patriots in the trenches; the Giants played both teams, 2x Patriots 3x Cowboys and the Cowboys played better all 3 times.
I hate the shit out of Jerry Jones; but he values the trenches, from the "Great Wall of Dallas" to league leading OL in 2014 and 2016. Both Romo and Dak were allowed to learn to read defenses in comfort and safety in protection and with a great run game that didn't force them to carry offenses in straight dropback 2nd and 3rd and 10 no play action possible.
2007 Romo and 2016 Dak were NOT ready yet to read defenses in straight drop back, that takes 2-3 years at least. When you just drop back to pass without play action, and the run game is the constraint forcing defenders into positions you can pass easier on. Those seasons are overachievement due to that OLine. 2014 they were ready and just lost a thriller to Packers.
Yet with all talent on those cowboys teams how many playoff games/ Super Bowls did romo/ dak win..🤔
That dallas oline was trash, especially in playoffs. Romo escape ability, awareness and insanely fast reads is the only reason the oline did not allow about 70 sacks.
@@WalterWhiteFootballSharing Romo was already elite at this point, he was the second best qb in the 2007 season. Only reason they lost in playoffs was because of the dropped td that hit the tight end in the chest. Crayton dropping a beautifully thrown ball with open field for a td, crayton dropping another first down, Crayton stuttering and so the game winning td went over his head. T.O dropping a 50 yard bomb that hit him over the shoulder beautifully in the 4th as T.O. was running full speed. Catch those easy catches and cowboys smoke giants. They also had a trash oline and run game ranked in the bottom half of the league in 07.
Prescott 6 years later and the guy still cannot read defenses past high school level.
Surprised 2016 Packers-Cowboys in the playoffs wasn’t the upload for the weekend.

Broooo U MakingMy Dreams Kome Trueeeeeeeee!!!!
The reason they got away from their offense was Favre being a jack ass and just throwing it up for anyone to get. He didn't look happy at all about Rodgers leading that TD drive before the half. I loved Favre from '92 until Mike Sherman showed up. By the time of this game I was glad to see him go.
He was too impatient. McCarthy would get upset with him. Forcing throws into coverage.
Just so you know Favre won a a game big time under Mike Sherman. Back in 2003 when his dad passed away Favre dedicated that game to him and he literally wopped some ass that day. He looked unstoppable.
@@danielsoto8601 Never said he never won any any games under Sherman. It's just that he lost a lot of them because of stupid stupid interceptions just throwing it up for anyone to get.
@@imjinrat2325 true Sherman wasn't the best play caller. Favre was at his best under Mike Holmgren. Idk why Holmgren had to be fired if he was doing a good job.
He wasn't fired. Paul Allen offered him a fortune to be Head Coach/GM of the Seahawks.
1:03:00
McCarthy would often be conservative when he should have been aggressive. But he still took risks. Like that random onside kick. I think he definitely should have gone for it on 4&1 with 5 minutes left in the game. He chose to kick a 53 yd field goal when he defense couldn’t stop the cowboys anyway. The packers really missed Charles Woodson in this one. I imagine there were times Rodgers would just absolutely toast the 1st string defense in practice.
A legend was born that night in big D
And at the end of the day, neither one of these teams would win the Super Bowl....
2007 should’ve been our year😭 the only meaningful loss we had was to the pats that year
I remember that eagles loss was brutal to watch. Think it was like 10-6
Gumball keeps calling the Cowboys "the packers".
Is that Bryant Gumbel calling an NFL game?
Unfortunately
Rodgers 1st game in Green Bay was like his whole career. No defense to stop anything ever and he has to put up 30 or more points to win a damn game. Im not a fan of either team, but I'm a fan of Rodgers who gets shit on about losing in the playoffs. He's legit bringing 4-12 teams to the playoffs year after year and people wonder why the can't reach the Superbowl. God their defenses have been so bad for so many years. -
or haters can say he only got to the super bowl by beating rex grossman!
So what happened last year. All he needed was 14 points to beat the 49ers. He's a great regular season QB. Playoffs, not so much. Hell get probably 1 or 2 more opportunities
His defense got 5 turnovers against Seattle and he still choked to lose. His defense got 3 turnovers against the Bucs and he turned it into 6 points. Two NFCCG where he didn’t show up when it mattered most.
To the 2024 fans this was how we dealt with the PAC most of the Farve years
It did not matter who ended up being first (or undefeated) to the Giants that year...
I still have a hard time wrapping my head around how they Beat GB in -30 degree weather.
I still have a hard time wrapping my head around as to how Asante Samuel dropped that game winning pick in SB 42

I miss these days. I miss Tony Romo. This was his best year. Effing Crayton ruined that year.
Tony Homo was a bum. Playoff choke artist extraordinaire.
Wonder if Favre called the governor of Mississippi and asked if he could use the states Medicaid for his hurt elbow.
