    This was the game that showed us Packers fans that life would go on after Favre. We were used to losing in Dallas and I think it shows in Favre's reckless play. He went full Gunslinger in this game. When Aaron entered the game, I remember thinking that we had no chance. Following the game, I remember talking with my Dad and we agreed that "that Rodgers kid looked pretty good out there." Boy, we had no idea that we were about to trade out one legend for another. This game was the first glimpse of that. Great memories.

    Interesting, Favre going out of the game. As most of you know, Brett was the arguably the all time iron man of NFL QBs. It was hard to make him miss a game, and the record book reflects it. The part that most people completely miss is that Romo was tough as nails. It's just that when a 275 pound 500 pound bench pressing DL pile drives you into the ground, snapping a clavicle or breaking a back, there you go. Romo wasn't by ANY stretch "fragile" - he just suffered a couple of monstrous crushing hits knocking him out of action, and haters call him "fragile." That's so not even close. Both Favre and Romo were warriors.

      @thecensoredmuscle563 Před 2 lety +7

      Romo had a trash oline from 06-13, and was constantly targeted and not protected at all by the league. Not even in old school rules standards. They would allow Romo to get drilled seconds after throwing the ball alot and would not call anything. So teams kept doing it, because it's a tactic to shake a qb up. Vikings fans always cry bringing up new Orleans targeting Favre. Yet if you watch that Cowboys vs vikings in playoffs the week before, they were targeting Romo big time.
      Then you watch other qbs's like Brady play and he gets rubbed wrong by a jersey and they call roughing the passer. I've seen a roughing the passer called when a player just wrapped up Prescott who still had the ball.

      Here’s the Favre dilemma. He loves to throw it deep. And that was his problem. Sure everyone says “Oh the Gunslinger was great” but said Gunslinger made way to many mistakes.
      While Mike Holmgren was there, he was keeping Favre in check. Medium passes and Short passes were Green Bay’s plays. He didn’t air it up a lot until the late 90s. After 98 and with Holmgren gone, he couldn’t be reigned it. Ray Rhodes couldn’t do it, Mike Sherman couldn’t do it and McCarthy couldn’t do it. Favre was at his worst with Sherman. 2001 NFC Divisional round anyone? Or 4th and 26? Favre (while playing like a gunslinger) shot himself in the foot.
      By 2007, my dad and I were sick of Favre’s air ball antics. So when we see this young guy playing well and moving the ball better than Favre, let’s just say we were excited.

    • @tempest20000
      @tempest20000 Před 4 lety +3

      Brad Diekow that “score 40 points” mindset killed the Packers a lot in the 2000s. Like the 2001 Divisional game against the Rams. Favre had it in his head that he needed to sling the ball all around the field and he ended up turning the ball over six times! 6 TIMES! He just needed to calm down and focus. Problem was it seemed like he didn’t do that a lot in the 2000s.

This game is a testament to their legacy, with the excitement of Romo, T.O., and Witten, to the dominance of the Dallas D. With the way the 2021 teams playing, I have a feeling McCarthy (and Al Harris, the Dallas DB coach) might have to face Rodgers, making this old game all the more meaningful.

    They didn't just upset the Pats, they defeated a pair of 13-3 teams on the road after beating the Bucs in Tampa. Strange that it's the only postseason matchup between these two storied franchises (Giants-Cowboys).
