    I'll be honest, I pretty much had the same reaction as you to start. Like yes its a good song, but why are so many raving about it... So I started to do what you were going to do and started watching various reactors to see what i was missing... while i was doing that, the song grew on me more n more. Things I started to note after going through the reactions. Vessel the singer has a huge range 95% of the voice is him with a little help on the scream from another band member. They can pull this off flawlessly live, there are several fan shot videos of decent quality that show this. The all out funk at the end is what's attracting the most attention, along with the mixture of genres used to put the song together. I once described it to another reactor that takes "pitches" for reactions (or was at the time) as "Part Prog, part heavy chug, part ambience and 100% baby making music" 😆
    I am not disappointed that you "didn't get it" because I didn't either.

      Listen, I love that 2000 metal sound and I can see they got chops. That era has THE BEST baby making music lol. I was just expecting another "to the hellfire" so I did it to myself đŸ€ŁâœŠđŸ€˜

      @@WolfKain I am going to make this months request here and now then. You like Wil Ramos and you don't mind Sleep Tokens sound so how about - "Chokehold - Wil Ramos vocal cover of Sleep Token."

    I love this band, everything they do to me is amazing
    The appeal imo is their absolute disrespect for being boxed in to any specific sound or genre. Every one of their songs can be drastically different than the other and they've shown they can nail all of them
    If you only like metal, this won't be your thing. But if you just love interesting, very diverse music, this band will blow your mind

    • @mattmcginley7
      @mattmcginley7 Pƙed rokem

      The ending is what has blown them up, on top of just being extremely good and people finding that out. Metal songs don't typically have a funky switch up like that, and not one that sounds that good
      I've been waiting for years for Sleep Token to blow up. I knew it would happen

    Reminds me of your reaction to "I Speak Astronomy" by Jinjer. I'm 48 and can go way back to hearing Metallica for the first time in 7th grade. This song has fascinated me in a way no other song has in a long time, for whatever reason. Never had heard of the band before I saw it so I had no expectations. The singers voice is so different to me. If you hear some of their other music or listen more closely to this song over again you may gain an appreciation for it. I think this song introduces many "sounds" to those that aren't into such heavy music that you are into.

    I think you gotta check out more songs to really understand Sleep Token (if that’s possible). To me, going back to a song or two on each ep/album is the move. They’re on their own when it comes to making music, if you do continue listening.. enjoy the journey! Worship

    You really nailed it with Deftones
 In my opinion The Summoning is not really the song which represents Sleeptoken at the fullest. I think I looked the same when I heard this song everyone making a fuss about
 I discovered them last year. Not my favourite band but give The Offering or The Night does not belong to God a try. much different, more doomy, trance-like style 😉

    My entry into ST was a track called Th Offering. They are genre fluid. About the only genre they've not done yet is reggae. It's all great noise.
    Then there is the lore that goes with it. Every track is a concept based on Vessel's relationship with his deity. They're from East London. Vessel writes everything. He plays all instruments except drums, he leaves that to Vessel II. Do all the tracks to actually get it. Every track is đŸ”„đŸ”„

    I totally agree! I heard them for the 1st time and meanwhile listend to other songs as well

    It’s like being stucked to the 00ies. But no question: not a bad song, great vocals and it’s perfectly!!! produced. i don’t get the hype
 Just my own opinion!!!

  • @gustavmetal

    I've always had the same question as you, that how very talented bands do not get more recognition while others effortlessly get it without bring too much to the table. Popularity doesnt equal Quality (most of the times), is the way I see it.
    And this song makes me believe even further than when you add clean/likeable (to some) vocals, plus a easy rythm that is catchy and easy to remember, simple music make it easy for the people to remember. Nothing against Sleep Token, it was a decent song, but was too much alternative/hip hop rock to my taste. But is that bridge to these type of styles that may make them reach bigger audiences. Hip Hop music is as simpler as you can get, but the views on their videos is undecent, so I think that bands that include these elements in their music make them easier to be checked for that swarm-like audiences.
    EDIT: About them wearing masks, yeah, I agree that makes people curious, but seems this is a similar case to Ghost and Lordi, where it's just for the looks and has nothing to do with their music style.
    EDIT #2: Honorable mention to social networks. If people see something trending (artificial or natural), people will check it out just to see what's it about. It doesn't matter if they liked it or not, the view still counts and its views will only grow, feeding into that cycle.

    • @WolfKain
      @WolfKain  Pƙed rokem

      @@Blasto2x I think what he was trying to say was nu/grove metal which sometimes used elements of hip hop. I wouldn't say there is any hip hop in this song, but I could argue some r&b / funk. Nothing wrong with that, but it does tend to be more popular.

    • @Blasto2x
      @Blasto2x Pƙed rokem

      @@WolfKain He said Hip Hop one too many times for it to have been a mistake. Even went on a little rant against it. He is just wrong, simple as that. Now yes, this song does incorporate more soulful elements, but I wouldn’t call it ‘Funk’ either as that is a very specific genre as well-think George Clinton and the Funkadelics or Bootsy Collins. Soul is more of an apt comparison to the latter bit of the song I believe, though it’s arguable due to the guitar rather than vocals. Maybe even a bit of Pop. But definitely not Hip Hop.

    I think it has to do with the frontman/woman. The amount of thirst traps on social media for Vessel is crazy. Men and Woman are drawn to him. It also helps that Sleep Token's music is "normie" friendly.
