👴 Old Composer Reactions 🤘
🔥Do you guys also notice the extended darkness of the track because of the "warm" approach to the mix? SO COOL🌊
It sounded pretty bloody good to me, until the last five minutes of this track. I wouldn't consider myself an afficionado of current "metalcore" either (if this is what they were going for). I found the ending disappointing, because it was so... dissociative, for lack of a better word.
post-rock or post-metal ..... erm postness... production of atmosphere, mood and feeling over standard rock/metal composition conventions. does that make sense outside of my autistic brain? 🙂
Every second of this song is ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS. This is the most exciting track I’ve heard from a band in a looong time
People were definitely tagging you for this song primarily due to the "gotcha" moment at the end. This song will go viral because it is in the mold of Jinjer's "Pisces." But I am glad you latched on to what really makes this song great. The sound is HUGE, it is ambient and ethereal and soulful. There are so many gorgeous moments without being overbearing. Good on ya Geebz for not taking the easy react "reaction"
@@bigrob966 how so? They are completely different. You’re generalizing two completely different styles of composy
Compared to their last album, this mix is absolutely huge. I heard that they got a new producer on board, that guy definitley knows what he's doing.
It’s Carl Brown, same guy who produced a lot of late 90’s punk, As I Lay Dying’s “Awakened”, BFMV’s “Scream Aim Fire”, and even Indicud from Kid Cudi.
It’s actually Carl BOWN.
@@goodtimehotline69 MALEVOLENCE - The Other Side is such a great mix. Bown is very talented. (I landed there weeks ago looking up RHCP peppers Otherside covers - Macklemore kills it but found this track too. Cheers!)
@@CrzyWzrd4Lwho the hell is Carl brown ?
George lever is also a stellar producer
The first time I heard this, it felt like I was meandering randomly through my usual playlist, tripped over my synthwave folder, then fell facefirst into my dad's LP collection...
Magical.
hope this band will make it big, it´s such an incredible song
I think they made it. Both of these new songs were trending on youtube
They’re pretty big here in the UK where they’re from because there is people like me who have their chains on which they sold, merch and then some fans like my self with the logo tatted on our hands or arms but gotta to have it on the hand and make it visible af for everyone to see them 😂
@@bluepilledalpha bu not enough people sharing it
@@CrazeReactsOfficial dude, it's been A fucking measly DAY. I agree not enough people are sharing it. But not as an argument that this song won't launch them. I've seen countless react suggestions on my youtube in a single day. This is hands-down their best song.
They're literally headlining O2 main rooms next week. And just did arena shows with Architects. Huge.
Geebz wasn't prepared for the arrival of the funk. Though to be fair, I don't think any of us were.
screw stylistic conventions 😜
That ending jam after the ambient breakdown absolutely floored me on first listen. It's been a while since something new has caught me off guard like that.
The notes he sings on "Take me past the edge" and "show me what it's like" on the second chorus.
I literally cried. That hit me. 🙌🙏💯👍👌
Yeah, man. The taste of the divine!
This song is a trip, genre mixing and mashing yet somehow keeps a certain vibe throughout
Yeah it feels like they found theit unique voice and it hits just right. I went back to past albums and they're still great but this is exceptional
Vessel has screamed before ("Gods," "Higher," "Hypnosis," a few others), but it was more of a yell-y scream, not this super heavy fry scream. The first time I heard this song and it got to that breakdown, I said, "YESSS!" out loud.
I'd love to see more Sleep Token on here. High Water or The Love You Want.
Yes please.
Eurghhh High Water blows my head into orbit man, I LOVE that track.
I feel High Water is hugely underrated, I love that song!
The Love you want is amazing!!! Probably my favorite.
High water is SUCH a beautiful song. I'd love to see him react to it
This LEVEL Screaming is def a new dimension for them. He’s always done less refined screaming but this track is showing he’s evolved in between albums. Ironically Finn was actually talking about how he doesn’t think bands like Loathe and Sleep Token would catch that much attention this year because of their “shoegazy” elements… but given the way these two new ST tracks are POPPING OFF!… I think Finn might’ve been wrong there lol. But then again, I don’t think he’s really paid much recent attention to Sleep Token because they’re not THAT shoegazy
wow. Finn being wrong about something? shocker
Who tf is Finn
@@veil4067 Finn McKenty, he also does music reviews and streams and is the owner of some of the worst heavy music opinions ever while himself being a part of the scene.
Their song gods has a lot of screaming on it.
@@spinxz_314 true, but that's basically the only song that gets decently heavy, so I think it makes sense to be surprised by heavy stuff.
I love how everyone's reaction to the ending is all the same, absolute surprise but vibing with it. If it were anyone but Sleep Token I don't know how well it could be pulled off.
It’s kind of like Black Sabbath “Symptom of The Universe”
Nobody ever expects that ending and I love to see people’s reaction to it cause it’s amazing
I'm so here for a Key of Geebz breakdown of this song 💖.
I love when bands get experimental with their sound. Throwing in that curve ball with the funk-style instrumentals was a fresh and welcome change up. Love it
Alot of content creators could learn alot from this guy! The way he does his intros and reviews/reaction is very well done.
The crazy thing is on the studio performance side sleep token is only two people, and one of them does nothing but drums
Is is the guitar player and Vessel only?
@@northtimo666 There's two official members (Singer and drummer known as Vessel I and Vessel II respectively) and then there is a guitarist and drummer who are technically not members of the band, but you can't discredit them. From the live videos I've seen, those two members haven't changed, but I could be mistaken.
@@ra1youu Think that has changed recently. It was Vessel & II officially, but in the past 2 days III & IV have just started Instagram accounts with the official sleep_token posting to follow them. II already had one for a few now. I read a comment on another video that someone said they saw an interview that Vessel said III & IV were official now.
@@JasonCopeland yeh saw this. I'm not surprised tbh considering it seemed like they were always constant members
@@ra1youu If I am correct they are formally known as III (bassist) and IV (guitarist). IV just announced a instagram account as a distinct member so I would assume their tenure in the band has been more formalized after the incredible success of their last album and general success of the band as a whole.
You can see the drummer in him going crazy
This is the antithesis to their previous compositional form where their songs had a heavy djent low tune breakdown on the ending to several tracks and this ends with funk. Love it! They are full of surprises and never cease to amaze. I do love the linear songwriting structure which I guess is even more prevalent in tech metal & prog styles and it seems they have returned to that more traditional sound with this track. Their previous album was impressive and catchy nonetheless more mainstream sounding.
When music gets weird and unexpected, you can always count on Geebs to be into it
Requesting a reaction to aqua regia 💛💛 it's got a really jazzy vibe to it. As a long term sleep token fan, it warms my heart to see them blowing up like this!!
Uh oh Geebz you done did it now😤 Appreciate you always kicking ass and listening to your fans and dissecting every song beautifully with your musical knowledge. I’m beyond excited to watch this particular video because this track is possibly Sleep Token best release to date. I appreciate you to the max!🤘🏽
Absolute banger of a track. Never heard this band before
As a sleep token fan, this song is such an evolution for them. The singer, Vessel, has done some screaming before, but it was less refined, and they haven't done many 'traditional' breakdowns before either. They also rarely do guitar solos, although there is one in their song Telomeres if I recall. The Funk elements are a wonderful edition and brings even more variety to their music. I'm so excited for more songs from them.
As a huge fan of Sleep Token, this song is everywhere but works at every turn.
The first half to 2/3's of the song feel very "the contortionist" vibe (one of my favorite bands).
Where as the last part, goes back to their soul feel that we love from them.
I'm excited to see where they go with this next album!
Damn, I'm so pumped for this album. And I am dying for a new Contortionist album (and karnivool!).
Love Michael Lessard’s vocals
Agree, I definitely got a Contortionist vibe right up until the closing funkiness
I can see why people suggested it on the VAST video. This is basically where that genre is in today's music landscape. This song has so many disparate sections, weird how they all come together. Great breakdown.
Never heard of them and straight to playlist- this tune is like the gift that keeps on giving! 🤘🏼🤙🏻
I guess I've never been so hyped about a song
Song "Chokehold", released by them a few days ago is also worth checking
Loved this one. And I'm not gonna stop pushing Silent Planet Panic Room. Heavy, ambient, even some almost spoken word.
Silent Planet is super underrated
That whole album is incredible, the rest of their catalog just doesn't quite measure up to it
I was so confused the first time I heard Jaws but it's become one of my favorite song and this band as well.
I was struggling to really get into Sleep Token, but something clicked this time and I GET it now. God this is like postmodern Tool, and it is tickling every nook and cranny of my brain.
This is why i always come here for these reactions. You are one of the only ones to resonate with the piano in these songs. The production on this entire album is unreal. If im not mistaken, Vessel pretty much plays all the instruments but drums.
They are masters of the ambiance. Great reaction ❤
at what point do we just admit that we as a listener have just become more complex? especially i feel my generation as millennials the span of music i listen to is scary
Only some of us for sure though
Complex I'm seeing most mainstream stuff becoming more and more simple
You do have to have complex ear to understand mumble rap while on lean and keeping the volume down to not disturb your parents up stairs from the basement
I wouldn't exactly say that. I feel like the mainstream is becoming more and more dull and uninspired and, as a result, the people who might have previously been satisfied with popular music are now being forced to the fringe to find decent music.
I’m sure every generation before you said the exact same thing, and every generation after you will as well
I have NEVER heard a bad Sleep Token song. They're amazing. I was totally here to see your reaction to the funk they slammed in the end of it! This song is pure ear candy
Major ode to Dimebag/Pantera vibes during the solo.
The pianist is also the lead singer Vessel. Worship
Thanks! Love your work!
It's been interesting, as someone who's liked this sort of sound for years, for it to start getting huge all of the sudden. It's been brewing.
It dropped pretty good on most trending by far one of my favorite songs by them!
Could you imagine trying to build music around Vessel's unique voice? It's facinating
It's so fascinating on how you explain and articulate the moments appropriately that we all feel when we listen to this and other great songs. Your knowledge is something else. Youre amazing man. Thank you for this truly.
You're one of the only music reaction channels I'm subbed to, and it feels great seeing you go over this absolutely fucking blast of an experience.
the singer writes and records all the music except drums, him & the drummer are the main songwriters. Amazing band! Rec. their entire catalog.
I don’t think I’ve seen your eyes dart more, or more mouthing the time signatures, and facial expressions in one of your reactions before lol
6:12
Now if this wasn't the most spot on thing you could've said about this😂
Love that you can relate with the heavier and the more melodic sides of rock.
Really liked this band, its my 1st time hearing them.
Thanks bro 🎶🎵🎵🎶🎵👍
Seeing this makes me want you to go back to some Loathe and their I Let it in and it Took Everything album. Lots of ambient and heavy tracks on that one with similar vibes to this song.
I just started listening to "I Let it in" this year and holy shit is it incredible. 100% back the idea of Geebz checking it out.
This was a great review, and I think you nailed it with the crossover that this track hits between darkness and ambience
"the people who love ambient power rock are now gonna get a big punch of metal into the formula"
thanks for making awesome insightful music content
I’m a VERY recent Sleep Token fan and it is SUCH an amazing time to be here for this and Chokehold.
Geebz my friend this is probably the greatest reaction and analysis of this song I’ve come across. I barely heard this a few months ago and I have shared it with everyone I know. I grew up in the 80’s so naturally a big metal fan and when anyone asks me what it’s like I tell them simply “It’s faqing sexy!” Someday I’m gonna buy you a cup of coffee 🤘🏻🔥💥🙏🏻💯
The last infusion of acid rock. The guitar playing the previous vocal part while the vocals switch.
I'm hearing some Prog Rock, some Metal, some Funk/R&B stuff at the end, beautiful piano playing. I'm excited to hear more from these guys. It's like Tool, Steely Dan, HIM and SlipKnot mixed up in a bowl and I'll take a second or third helping. 👍
The ASMR-y comfy thing you meant is lo-fi, I also catched that
YES YES YES YES YES YES YES!!!!!! Worship! ❤
I was waiting for you to get a hold of this 🤘🤘🤘
And the screaming isn't a new thing for Vessel, he just did it in their earlier stuff like "Gods" a lot more
That stream of consciousness was fairly insightful. Appreciate the videos as always!
Great analysis. Every new song is such an incredible surprise and I am hung in suspense for the rest of this album!!
Let’s go the best of their new songs!!!
This song turned RHCP at the end 😂
That song was such a trip, and your facial expressions synced up perfectly with how I was feeling myself! Also, when you said "ASMR" and then took it back, I think maybe you were referring to "Soundscapes"? I know I've seen some videos on YT with hour+ background music for relaxing, studying, and just general ambiance, and that was the term they used.
Sleep Token is life
Thank you for another reaction video with Sleep Token. I love this band and I think they are the most interesting "newcomer" band in this genre of the past twenty years. What they do is another level of experiencing Metal, Ambient and even some electronic, funk and soul vibes. For me this is the sound of a new era, another level of Metal.
I'm glad I decided to go back through your videos to check out ones I've missed because *_holy shit_* this was amazing. Where has this band been my whole life?!? Thank you for what you do man. I love watching your videos and there's so many artists/bands I might not have heard of if not for you, at least not for a while. And this one is an absolute gem. So thanks again and I'm gonna go check out their catalogue!
Time to go down the rabbit hole 💛💛 this is my fav band of all time. Saw the live last year. I'd recommend checking out the offering, higher, high water, and hypnosis
They dropped 2 new songs, the other is good too!
Typing this as I watch. I cannot wait to see his reaction when we get to the “gospel funk” section. It was such a curveball for me 😂 much love from KY. ❤️
I'm loving how Sleep Token have blown up this week, and all from 2 songs! The closing part of The summoning is incredible but you need to check out Chokehold; the opening passage with all the synth/reverb is just epic.
Gotta do HOLY FAWN! Won the #2 slot on album of the year, check out Drag Me Into the Woods, or Death is a Relief...both videos are killer, too
I second this! We need more gazey stuff on here
Plus the (self) engineering and production is stellar, really think keyofgeebz would really dig them.
Holy Fawn are something else man, so damn good. Death is a relief is such a huge song
Haha, you were on that high octane coffee for this one 😂🤟
Speaking of dark, ambient metal, I would LOVE for you to break down another Vola song, Alien Shivers or Ghosts. The song you've done by them is great, but they offer some stuff the turns me into an emotional wreck and would love you to experience more of it. Mahalo, brother 🙏
Funkcore is born.
Love your breakdown and take on this song. Sleep token has a way of awakening something within, however way you wanna take it. They are special. Beyond compare. Cant wait for more reactions from you 😊
So you mention Vessel's screaming- there's a song they did called "Gods." It hits you in the face with heavy before throwing in a dramatic twist. I think you'd love it
I’ve never heard this until now! Ive heard the other one “chokehold” and is so good!
Geebz your reaction was exactly my face to that outro. I instantly became a fan and then traveled back to their older albums. Just an amazing band
Sleep Token sound like they grew up listening to bring me the horizon and Ed sheeran equally, in the best way lol
2023 will be the year of Sleep Token 🫶
FINALLY!
Best band.
Period.
Worship!
Great reaction, thank you for covering this fantastic band. I saw Sleep Token last year, when they toured with Architects. Sleep Token were absolutely amazing (as of course were Architects!).
Sleep Token is a watershed moment in music.
People that didn't know they liked metal, or jazz or funk, etc. are being brought in with ST at the catalyst.
HUGE, absolutely HUGE for music.
this track is giving me between the buried and me vibes
Great Analysis. Great Song. Thanks for this, going to check them out further. Awesome!
New albums by : Sleep Token, Katatonia, Tesseract etc. 2023 won’t be that bad.
Also Haken, Periphery, Ne Obliviscaris, The Ocean and The Contortionist. Hopefully Karnivool drop something too, that would be incredible!
Aww man hoping for karnivool to drop something, still got all it takes on loop 😂
Avenged Sevenfold also coming with their most weird album yet. It's going to be a Psychedelic one.
Honestly just found this song myself and thought you gotta hear this too I’m so glad you made ❤️
Loved the vid. Glad you dig these guys, they're something special.
As for a recommendation, this is an old album but you NEED to check out: "Slice The Cake: Odyssey Of The West." You HAVE to listen front to back as the album is technically one big song. You go from these dark spoken words into death metal into pure chaos. Truly a unique auditory experience.
This band is just incredible! Truly… They continue to surprise, even on their third release. How many artists can truly do that? They are everything I love in any musical project or endeavor. This is art, at its finest! 💪🏼💪🏼
They had screams already in some of their older songs like Higher, Gods and more
The clean vocals here aren’t quite my thing (almost sounds newish pop R&B), but the heavy stuff is killer. Growing on me
I didn't dig it a whole lot either but man, give their other albums a try. Vessel (the vocalist) is an absolutely incredible singer. He grows on you, the emotion he can pump into his voice is insane.
@@justinavery3903 I hear ya. I’ve actually probably listened to this song about 25 times since my comment, so clearly it has grown on me. I still cringe a little at some of the vocals, but I’ve grown to enjoy a lot of it.
I’ve listened to asleep Token in the past - there’s even a few songs I’m fond of though I don’t listen to them with any regularity. This is probably their best song for me because of the minute or so of heavy/brutal sprinkled across the song. Heavy is the way to my heart haha
The screams aren't new, just doesn't use them a lot. I will say he's improved a ton at screaming though, sounds a lot better than the screams he's done previously
yeah, he's def changed his technique and approach too screaming here, its so much better then it used to be, the change in producer prob also plays a role.
@@xanthelinhs2143 I think people are speculating that Sam Carter from architects may have helped him too since they just toured together. I could see it
Geebz, you know it came from the music! ☮️💜
nice mate! here in Argentina we say "lets drink some greens" 😏
there were previously screams in "Gods" off of their 2019 "Sundowning" album, but gee(b)z this track is something else
Interviewer: "So which genre would you classify Sleep Token as?"
Sleep Token: "Yes"
Awww. I used to call my cat Geebz. I thought I was the only one who knew that word. Lol
LOVE THIS BAND!
Amazing new reaction Geebz! Thank you for sharing your passion and vibes to this epic track. Your final thoughts were actually so well out to me, the convergence of space, ambience, intervals of melody & harmony, amongst their raft of styles create fantastic music.
Honestly, as you said it- it felt like a I was receiving a lifetime of wisdom on one of my favorite bands in a fantastic sentence. Thank you :D
I hope you're right! I've alllways loved ambience, depth & space in my heavy music. Bring it all on I say! katatonia & the contortionist do this quite well.
Geebz should absolutely do some more Katatonia, its been a while ;)
Oh man I am TOTALLY digging this WOW 🤘🤙
I love watching your brain work. Those wheels were spinning real hard 😆
Fantastic song and reaction video 🔥 🙏
Really glad you did this one, love this band
