They all converse in Sanskrit, Kids study Sanskrit, the entire village is full of Sanskrit. Mattur or Matoor the only village in Karnataka, India that still speaks Sanskrit. A must visit location in Shivamogga to learn the legacy.
People here are speaking Sanskrit from ages. As we know Sanskrit is one of the ancient languages however the language is in the verge of extinction but this village is being exceptional, Mattur has long been known as a center of learning for Sanskrit and Vedic studies. Mattur's twin village, Hosahalli, shares almost all the qualities of Mattur. Mattur has traditionally been home to a community of Sanketi Brahmins now consists of other residents too.
