None of those observations caught my attention except the new-looking school bus. None of them actually took things away from the story which is typically late 50s/early 60s. Still, my fave anime of 2022 (2nd is my dress-up darling)

The booth that gives pictures in 3 minutes was probably a Polaroid booth, those have been around since the late 40s.

FWIW I have a relative, an uncle who was stationed in West Berlin for many years in the 1960s and he watched some of the show (just a couple episodes). He said it isn’t perfect but it’s a pretty good representation of Berlin around 1962 to 1965, based on things like the television, the cars, the interior of the apartment, the way the city looks and the way people are dressed.

The cars illustrated give a nice touch too. The car going off the bridge is a ZIL 111 used by state officials, the small car is a Trabant made in East Germany, the VW van, and a Aston Martin DB5 used by James Bond. All from the 60’s.

Tatsuya Endo actually went to New York to take some references for the manga. That's why some places in manga looks American.

I hate the modern school bus, it’s such an out of place intrusion. Also for the era (60’s - 70’s) color tv would be extremely rare.

I think Spy x Family takes place during the 1980s, around the same time as a VHS tapes as well as VCR Video Cassette Recorders.
So it isn't all that inaccurate but true, there are some stuff in the show that is modern day compared to stuff that would have been in East/West Germany at the time.

5:25 That's so inspirational like the power of anime really does spread😭😄 I'm glad that this could have actually changed him
10:10-11-15 well when it comes to Filler there's multiple types. Anime it's supposed to be entertaining from the first place so filler should happen in every single anime. It just depends on how the anime would treat it alongside the canon. And I like how Spy X Family does it because it makes it a blast and it's well and good 😍👍
12:46 Well it's not like that little bit of gruesomeness benefits stuff anime ( that's how I feel). Mr. Endo practically had no choice but to make it that way in the manga. He can't draw stuff like that without making it look trashy. So the anime probably did this stuff make it the way Mr. Endo always wanted for all ages.
    Or Something like that😅

censoring really doesn't bother me that much if i have never seen the anime before cause on toonami here in the usa it's censored on certain things. the only time censorship bothers me is if i have already seen the original uncensored version first.

There are a bunch of super humans in this show. It is almost normal. Them having strange tech levels is not as shocking as a woman who can dice a tennis ball with a racket.

The manga and anime [most likely] take place during the height of the cold war (mid-80's) in Europe. Plus the colored markers were invented in the early 80's, specifically the Crayola brand of markers.

When exactly was it established that the story takes place necessarily in the 50s?? This is a different world that in theory takes place in a divided Berlin but the war they're talking about isn't WW2, it's more like a war that was between the West and East. I don't know... being a Cold War series it could take place in the 80s just as well, cars in the communist block were always a couple of decades behind...

yeah, the anachronistic tech level of this 'country' flipping from 1940's to 60's and then 70's and the clothing styles on WOMEN! kept popping up in front of my eyes CONSTANTLY! it is like the mangaka and anime designers just can't pick an era and STICK TO IT!
Foxen, a bit of a history lesson for you. The invention of commercially viable instant cameras which were easy to use is generally credited to American scientist Edwin Land, who unveiled the first commercial instant camera. he patented the model 95 Land Camera in 1948. a year after he unveiled instant film in New York City. Polaroid produced their first EVER instant camera utilizing Land's technology also in 1948.
the Paris World's Fair in 1889 introduced the first photo booth. but commercially viable and popularized cheaper technology wasn't viable till in the United States back in 1925. a Siberian immigrant named Anatol Josepho unveiled a partially-automatic photographic machine near New York City’s Times Square. you put in some change, listened to the attendant, and sat in the booth for around 8 minutes. then you got a nice quality (for the period) black and white photo of yourself. in 1968 photo booth users could start operating the photo booth themselves. auto focus lenses and electric light meters were wired into the automatic controls inside the booths' guts. by the 1970s, the technology had improved and color had replaced black & white.
00:47 that is NOT a VHS player Foxen. hehahah! 🤣VHS didn't come out till August of 1977. in '71 SONY produced the first video 'cassette magnetic tape' called the U-Matic. what is in SxF? that is a probable reel to reel audio visual player. estimated US Dollar value in the late 60's? over $2,000. who owned/used them? nobody but rich as heck people, government agencies, and educational institutions. they are so rare that only a few museums and private collectors keep them. their tapes? unless they are brand spanking new modern manufacturing, disintegrated. magnetic tapes of the late 50's to middle 60's were too often made with cellophane, celluloid, and other plant-based plastics. they rotted too easily.
censorship? what censorship? as an anime-only i just enjoy the show as-is. unless there is 'magic mist', 'holy light', 'pixelization', 'impossible black bars', or 'mysterious white blood-like substances' (Seven Deadly Sins!). as to the 'gore level'... why bother worrying? S1 parts 1 AND 2 aired Saturday nights at 11pm (2300h), so outside the 'Golden Time' block in Japan. therefore the 'adult nature' of the show was a possibility to me. in the US 'SxF' is rated PG13. after i found that out, i knew it wasn't going to be '17 year olds and up' and therefore i don't mind the absence of gore etc.
i too love 'Spy X Family' and from now on when i hear 'waku waku' Anya's face will always pop up in my head. :>
