Thank you for this topic on Ever . â„ïžđ
My pleasure!
As ever, your teachings are wonderful
I've been improving my skills in English EVER SINCE I started studying with you.
I think that I really like all the different ever/never meanings, but I also feel that both words have a very beautiful poetic sound... That mix of "e" with "l", "n" and "r" is the perfect combination of strong and soft sounds...I just love the way it sounds!
I never thought of it that way, but it's true :). Maybe that's why they're used in songs a lot!
@@EnglishwithMax You're absolutely right!
Awesome lesson; very complete ,short and useful.

I'm really surprised that you've replied to almost everyone's comments, I've never ever seen to reply comments like it. And one more thing, the way you speak is amazing,I mean your expression. I just look at your face.
I do my best, but I've recently started to get a lot more comments, so I probably won't be able to keep replying to as many. ;)
Hmmm, it's very difficult for anyone. Anyway I wish you to continue like this as much as possible for you. But I am really very happy, delighted and pleasured to getting your reply. Thank you, thank you very much.â€ïžâ€ïžâ€ïž

Thanks for this lesson on "ever".
I got confused with that word. It is quite a common word to use for natives though.
I understand that quite a lot now.
I'm glad it helped. :) â„
You are right "Never" and "Ever" do not have the same meaning. However English is such a whimsical language that there is an instance where the words practically mean the same. I'm sure you've heard the song "Have You Never Been Mellow " by the Australian singer Olivia Newton John. If you haven't, ask your parents, they'll know all about it.
The point I want to make is that the phrases "Have You Never Been Mellow" and "Have You Ever Been Mellow" actually mean the same thing.
Haha that's true :).
But the sentence with "never" is a negative question.
Like "Haven't you seen that movie?" versus "Have you seen that movie?"
This is the clearest explanation about this topic I ever watched. Would you mind summarising it in one of your newsletter ?
That's a good idea! I'll try to include it in this week's newsletter. :)
Thanks for interesting lessons as ever! Here's my attempt!

Love means never HAVE TO say youâre sorry
and
Love means never HAVING TO say youâre sorry.
Which is the best and why ?
Thank you. I pay my respects to you. Far thee well dearest Prof. A
Good question :).
The second one is correct (the first one is incorrect).
It's because after "never" we use the gerund or a conjugated form of the verb (e.g. I never go), and not the infinitive or base form. I hope that helps! â€ïž
