ABOUT BON APPÉTIT
Bon Appétit is a highly opinionated food brand that wants everyone to love cooking and eating as much as we do. We believe in seasonal produce, properly salted pasta water, and developing recipes that anyone can make at home. - Zábava
Describing cool ranch Doritos as "quite subtle" and "pure" has me rolling
Yeah, knowing how they perfected the crunchability and added flavorings in the lab and spending millions of dollars for it. Oh, Prue....
@@bleifmeister whats wrong with msg?
@@Zach476 people like peter anderson.
@@bleifmeister eating foods that have excitotoxins is generally fine, the problem is when its eaten on the scale that its eaten in industrialized nations
I will admit that I very, very occasionally crave them, but I understand that I'm eating a punchy chemical cocktail when I do. Subtle and pure are nothing to do with Doritos.
Paul wanting to put brie and a grape on a cheez it 💀
He’s bougie he can’t help it 😂
Hear him out though... I might give it a try lol
I know l didn't get that combination
Thank you guys for trying our snacks
Half a grape 🎩
Never thought I’d hear anyone describe Doritos as “subtle, layered, interesting, and quite pure”
Exactly. I honestly can’t believe that was said about Doritos, but they hated the Reese’s peanut butter cups 🤦🏻♂️
Depth of flavor 😂
@@irl-hdr4080 Terrible chocolate is a menace to itself
Its all relative
@@irl-hdr4080Reece’s are completely let down by the chocolate. It’s inedible
Prue was on it with the bracket system. No time wasting, decisive, very professional.
Very effective
Watching Paul Hollywood shove a literal handful of potato chips in his mouth to wash out the flavor of a Combo is the best thing I've seen in a while.
I laughed so hard 😂
You probably wouldn't want to sit next to him during a football game...
Stuffing his face, bits flying everywhere with frustration ! 😂
Have you heard of pornography. It’s easily better than an orange goon eating crisps.
Combos are so Gross! When they first came out I bought a bag for my son and we each had one and threw the bag away! LOL
Combos don’t deserve the air time
I wouldn’t consider Pop-Tarts a “snack” but more of a “desperate breakfast” 😂
Raw Pop-Tarts are just awful. Toasting them makes a difference.
@@mrburger Preach on - you really need to toast them.
strawberry pop-tarts are mid-tier anyway. They should have tried the s'mores flavor
“Desperate Breakfast”
Band name. Called it 🤘🏾
Pop-Tarts have declined over the years. There’s barely any filling in them now.
Omg I love their banter. And having them rate such banal thing as snacks is brilliant and brings them down to earth.
The fact they are baking professionals makes this even better
Apparently Prue is more of a cook than a baker.
Well now you know you can't trust their baking ability since they choose the most vile of all candies, Snickers, over the pure perfection of candy, Reese's.
@@mynameisworld Taste is subjective, chill.
You don't say?
Calling Doritos "pure" is one of the most shocking and yet somehow encouraging things I've ever heard.
I thought that was hilarious. My guess is that she meant she could actually taste something resembling real food (corn) as opposed to pure processed garbage.
Gives us all hope
Doritos seasoning is actually based on the chemical for "savory". It is essentially pure savory.
In that company it was probably true
Just as shocking as calling an untoasted basic pop tart as "not too bad"
I like how they've never really heard of Twinkies and they still come up with the "they'll last forever" joke.
One taste and you know they'll last forever. You can almost taste the preservative.
They sell the majority of these things, including Oreos, in a lot of UK supermarkets in the American/world section. I guess it's possible they've never really heard of them, but I'm sure they've seen them on the shelves, even if they've never tried them.
@@Lizzo13 it's more ubiquitous than that. They're not sold in the American/world section. Doritos are sold in the crisp section with a dozen varieties. They even do Doritos dips. Oreos are sold in the cookie section but in the UK there's only one or two varieties, unlike the US. Pop-Tarts have been in the UK for 30 years. Lay's are known as Walkers in the UK. Like Paul says, Snickers exists in the UK but with different chocolate. Paul and Prue have definitely tried all the brands I mentioned. They are downplaying their familiarity with the products for the sake of the video's theme.
@@tortue1227 I mean it depends on whether they've ever reached for those items to try them, IMO. Especially if they're shopping at idk, Waitrose and going straight for the fresh food, maybe popping over to the biscuit aisle - if they EVEN are shopping themselves. Odds are fairly high they've never gone for Twinkies or Pop Tarts (which I sometimes do find in the international section). Doritos maybe, but again there are much fancier crisp selections, even corn-based ones.
@@Lizzo13 Re-watch. Paul says he's heard of them a lot.
“Depth of flavor” is never a phrase I would have applied to Doritos.
I have never heard anyone be so articulate in explaining American snacks. It was a breath of fresh air. Cool Ranch Doritos have been a childhood favorite for me so I agree 110%.
Sadly they are NOT wrong about American chocolate - we have been duped and mistreated by our chocolate makers for far too long.
"I've been eating candle?" -Pangina Heals
It's Hershey's fault.
If we had a company like Guittard out of California making all of our chocolate we'd be in a FAR better place. But alas.... Hersheys it is
I find American chocolate better than British chocolate. British chocolate is very one-note to me. But that doesn't mean that American chocolate is actually better, any more than someone else preferring British chocolate does. We all have preferences.
Not only that, but you can't blame Hershey's for the chocolate in a Snickers. Snickers is made by Mars, a Hershey competitor.
@@wbfaulk You might want to read the ingredients on American chocolates. The EU has stricter rules in terms what can be marketed as chocolate compared to the US. Cadbury can't sell their chocolates to the rest of EU if the percentage of cocoa does not hit the threshold. American companies just add more sugar to cover the lesser cocoa content.
I’m just relieved that none of our snacks got called stodgy 😂
pop tarts do have that stodgy potential IMO
@@soliviakatharine When they call something stodgy, it's usually dense and maybe a little doughy. Think underbaked bread. Snack foods tend to be very very low in moisture.
This made me laugh way too hard 😂
🤣🤣🤣🤣
No soggy bottoms around here. 👌
Watching them eat that raw pop-tart 😭 and the strawberry one no doubt. Brown sugar is by far a better choice!
I’m weird but I actually like the cherry. To me I taste more of the fruit.
Yuck pop tarts are the worst, I agree with PH, who eats that sh#+?????
Or blueberry. They were robbed 😭
@@cyn2612 People who like it
I agree they should have chosen brown sugar or a chocolate one or something else. and heated it up!
I remember having a British Snickers for the first time and was instantly impressed. Better tasting chocolate and better nut ratio.
I honestly think they changed American Snickers. I don't remember Snickers tasting the way it tastes now. And I agree with Paul, I think it's the chocolate that's gotten worse.
@@twelvecatsinatrenchcoat They absolutely did. And Twix. Twix tastes like plastic now.
Check out QI, They say the exact same thing
American chocolate has a chemical added to make it take of puke. Deliberately. True story.
The British caramel is better. US caramel tastes like burning.
Well, now I need Paul Hollywood's incredible pronunciation of Lay's as my text tone
This got me. I had to rewatch a few times. 🤣
🤣🤣🤣
True. But it’s not an f’in “snicker” also
Lails? Lol WUT
Ah Paul - Ruffles are crisps made for dip. You could never dip a Lay's, at least not unless you have infinite patience for all the times they will break
You must pass that question to get your true American card.
Ruffles and homemade clam dip ❤
The ridges provide structural integrity.
Is dip really a thing in the UK?
This 100% what I said too 😂
I love the sophistication they use to describe these junk food snacks.
Snickers is my favorite candy bar, and now I’m desperately wanting to visit the UK just to try their version. I’m so sad our chocolate is so bad. 😭
Give me your address and I'll send you a box of british chocolate bars.
I was going to offer the same as @Boovda! :) Happy to send EU snickers if you want!
British chocolate is ABSOLUTELY SUPERIOR!! Get yourself a flake bar sometime
They needed to freeze the thin mints and toast the pop tarts to unlock their true snack potential.
Definitely. And raspberry or brown sugar cinnamon Pop Tarts are better than strawberry IMO.
The major problem with pop-tarts is that the filling amount is just not enough. There's too much "plain" area on the edges with no frosting/filling!
I feel like its shrunk since I was a kid :/
The secret trick to pop tarts is butter
You are a true connoisseur.. 😏
Almost impossible to find, but I freaking LOVE unfrosted blueberry pop tarts in the toaster oven with a smear of butter. mmmmm
This should be a series. Their reaction had me laughing so hard.
My family dog, a beautiful Brittany Spaniel, loved a little bit of human food. We were Southern kids who half lived off gas station snacks and would give her a bit of anything she wanted that we had. And I can tell you absolutely honestly that she multiple times took, bit into, and spit out Combos. I distinctly remember cleaning up the shattered, spitty bits with that grainy, cheese glue holding them together.
Wow as an American i never thought about some of our snacks in the way they portray them but they have some solid points. This should be a series with other countries snacks
Paul says, “The whole thing about a snack is that you have to be able to eat more than one and I don’t think I can do that with the Oreos… they’re quite rich…” 😂 Paul, meet my husband who thinks a sleeve of Oreos is a serving. 😂😂😂
I literally had this exact same thought about my husband and Oreos 😂
I think professionals of their caliber tend to have highly sensitive palettes so they can appreciate and/or handle a smaller amount of something and be done with it. I find I eat less when I analyze food more, especially desserts. I think you can train your brain to do this but most of us don’t regularly because we aren’t trying to be professional chefs/bakers. 😄
My husband hopes I am in the mood for oreos so he has an excuse to eat all the frosting and give me the cookies
I don’t think they would do a line of Thin Mints as a serving either 😂
Your husband is not wrong. 😂
I love that they don't judge them too like a pretentious chef and recognize that they are simple snacks that you can enjoy without overanalyzing how they are made.
That's exactly what I thought they did. Did we watch the same video?
I mean he did, for a split second, try to convince us that cheez-it’s should be used as vehicles for Brie and half a grape, which is pretty pretentious in my book, but I understand what you’re saying.
@@jordanmilam502 i don't understand what he/she's saying. I thought it was overall pretty pretentious. Maybe not by their standards but by normal standards at least.
@@jordanmilam502 next time I have guests, I will put a charcuterie plate with cheez its 🤣
@@kiriakoz what exactly does pretentious mean in your context
Paul cramming the Lay's into his mouth was epic!
I love that they gave them all of the MOST processed snacks 😂
Never realized I wanted to see Paul jump into a pit of cheese balls Scrooge McDuck-style, but here we are
He's the Secret Cheese Monster ! 😜
It would explain why he looks orange.
Doritos are definitely the best American snack. But I have to say, I can munch down on a whole box of Thin Mints, as opposed to only a couple of Oreos.
Yeah, thin mints eat like potato chips! It's hard to stop eating them.
And I can pound a package of Oreos. Double Stuf or more. 😂
They should've tried them frozen lol
I can definitely take down a Thin Mints sleeve, but I can eat a scary amount of Oreos if there is a tall glass of milk.
I'm not a big fan of girl scout cookies but I love the Thin Mints - I will eat the entire box almost every time.
This was great! We need more of these videos with Paul and Prue
Oh my gosh! I’ve always loved these two but this video put them over the top! They are hilarious! I love them!
This was hilarious. So great. The reason Prue has worked as a replacement for Mary Berry is that she has such great chemistry with Paul. It's nice to watch.
Oh I dunno ... I thought the Paul - Mary chemistry was pretty great.
I love these two together
@@DC-jz7ioI feel like their relationship was fake. I can see it especially in the masterclass episodes
@@anmichele3829 Huh! Are you referring to masterclass episodes in the British series?
@@DC-jz7io yes, the Great British Baking show masterclass.
This should definitely be a series with these 2. Love them so much.
I agree ❤
There is, it’s called the great British bake off
For those confused on the US vs UK Snickers - In the UK chocolate manufacturers uses more milk and less sugar compared to the US recipes. This is true for each of the major international brands (Nestle, Cadbury, Mars etc.). In my opinion the US versions have a nice instant sweetness, but an unpleasant oily aftertaste. The UK versions are highlighted with creaminess rather that instant sweetness.
UK is better than Canada too. If you taste them side-by-side the quality of the chocolate is unmistakable
Thanks
Its actually the PGPR
please make a pt 2 this was amazing!
I totally agree with the outcome, but poor pop tarts...they should be toasted! That wasn't fair😂
Agree
They ARE revolting untoasted.
And…you need a bite of the middle. Paul got just the dry, miserable corner-no icing, no filling.
Agree 💯
Without frosting, toasted and buttered is AMAZING
British food icons confirming that my two favorite snacks are indeed the best snacks 👌👌
though the producers did them filthy for not toasting their poptarts, freezing their thin mints, giving dip with the ruffles, or milk with the oreos
💯% agree 🙌🏼
We would never think to dip an Oreo with milk over here, cup of tea or an instant coffee yes but not normally milk. The only reason kids know it's what you do is through US TV shows and some Oreo adverts but dipping a biscuit (cookie) into a cold drink doesn't come naturally over here
@@davidadams3408 Makes sense of your talking Biscotti type things. You could probably dip an Oreo in Coffee tbh, never tried it, the chocolate cookie is really complemented with milk, either way it’s a hard cookie so obviously it wants you to dip it something.
And not roasting the pop tarts is idiotic, it’s uncooked, you wouldn’t eat pancake batter and judge it that way.
@@davidadams3408 That's fascinating to me. It never occurred to me that dipping certain cookies in milk would be an American thing!
@@brandonedlin2052Pop tarts are not uncooked; they have been previously baked and thus can be eaten straight out the packet, though having tried them, I agree they should have been toasted for them to try first.
I love and respect both Mr. Hollywood and Mrs. Leith, and it hurts it me to my core that they've eliminated Reese's & Pop-tarts (two of my favorite snacks) in such an uncompromising way 😄
They called the uncooked PopTart “raw” 😂😂😂
Reeses are so hit or miss it sounded like they got a chalky one. A creamy Reeses cup is a delight, but about half the time they are barely worth eating.
It’s bc pop tarts are stale, boring shingles of garbage. Sorry 😂
Not fair to judge a cold Pop-Tart.
They’re like pasty white flour cookies with compressed sugar, enough to spike your blood sugar after two bites
what a great idea for a video! this was wholesome, cute and funny to watch. Love Paul and Prue!
They need a follow-up where they throw in some real treats, like Funyuns, Munchos, Bugles, Chicken in a Biskit crackers...the possibilities are endless.
I would SO love to see those tested. I ate wayyyyy too many Bugles back in the 60s. It's been 50 years since I've had one but when I see a package I can instantly remember the taste and know I do not want to eat another.
I would love to see them given spoons and dive into a jar of Goobers PB&J !!!
Once I'd eaten healthy for a while I could not believe how terrible these "snacks" are. Bugles were least offensive, but all of them made me very sorry. Can't believe I ever liked them.
@@kirnpubugles arent the same anymore
@@artemis3187 Oh no doubt. With all the flavor "enhancing" they do nowadays pretty much nothing tastes like it used to.
The real question is: Did they put the Thin Mints in the freezer first, or did they serve them at room temperature?
I was watching this video on my smart tv and got on my phone just to make sure someone commented this. Thin mints are 5x better frozen, and way better than somoas I’ll fight anyone who disagrees!
Exactly my thought lol, I thought that was just a weird thing my family did, but it’s nice to know I’m not the only one who thinks thin mints are so much better super cold lol
@@matthewlennox9482 counterpoint: both thin mints and samoas are amazing
Frozen Thin mints are a game changer! I thought they were okay until I put them in the freezer, now they are my favorite cookies.
@Kevin L Having had them both ways, I can confirm that I like what I like, yes.
Paul and Prue are so fun and professional! I appreciated their observations and comments. Fun video concept as well. Thank you for sharing this!
So, Paul, Ruffles are for dipping in a creamy dip. And Girl Scout thin mints are what I buy once a year and gorge on lol. You should have tried double stuffed Oreos 😅
Not mad at the final 2. I feel like a lot of Americans would come down to those as well
I’m pretty sure Doritos and Oreos are our best offers for great American packaged food.
Both are delicious, both are versatile, both are binge worthy, and both have really amazing alternative flavors (Nacho cheese or Double Stuf).
Both are toxic
Is Double Stuf really an alternative flavor, though? 🤔
@@KreativeKonnectionso!
Oreos are boring.
@@KreativeKonnection At least the Oreos are vegan.
My husband and I grew up eating combos and we love them to this day, especially the pizza flavor!
They should be reviewing everything 😂 love it
I absolutely adore these two! When Prue said “the Crème in the middle contributes nothing” about the Oreos, I jumped out of my chair…I hope someone showed them about licking the crème out of the middle, after taking the Oreos apart? And I totally agree about Combos. I get them as road snacks and as the third handful is going down the gullet, I am usually thinking, “who eats these? (MUNCH MUNCH MUNCH)”
I don’t think I have ever just bitten into an Oreo. They are made to take apart and eat the cookie and crème separately. I treat the Golden Oreos the same way.
The cookie >>> cream
"Who eats these? (MUNCH MUNCH MUNCH)"
Hilariously accurate. Lol
She said cream.
I must agree with Prue. I pluck out the crème and eat the cookie.
Loved Paul's reaction to the Pop Tarts. I feel the same way about them.
Revolting was the perfect term.
This was so entertaining! I love these 2 so much!
I am enjoying these two together with there best American treats well done both of you
I couldn't begin to compare a sweet snack with a salty snack; they're two different things. Fun watch regardless.
I am pretty happy with these results as an American. Oreos, Doritos, and Lays are all great. I can occasionally enjoy a Poptart or HoHo, but I think it is more nostalgia than quality of flavor. I do love an American Snickers though 😂
Okay they definitely need to do more food reviews I love them!!
This was fun to watch. Thank you!
Somehow I feel validated?
How Prue kept going for more, was just so wholesome and lovely.

In UK, cool ranch Doritos are called cool American.

I’d love you see a review of British snacks by American chefs
Well, one American chef and one non-American chef. Pru isn’t British, she is South African.
Prue has also lived in the UK most of her adult life, in her heritage British culture. So, to say she's not British because she grew up in ZA is rubbish.

Very fascinating to hear their views on the snacks, great contest!

The m&ms are also different in the UK. I think it's a different shell to chocolate ratio. But I couldn't tell you which I like more.

They should have gave them the brown sugar cinnamon Pop tarts! Those are Great!
Hands down the best.
They taste like a cinnamon roll. I love them.
Anyone else notice at 3:38 Paul says "lairs" which I think is a nod to Mary Berry Prue's predecessor on Great British Bake Off. For anyone that doesn't know Mary famously pronounced layers as "lairs"
Nah, she's just posh too.
I had the exact same reaction as Paul Hollywood tasting Poptarts for the first (and only) time 😂
Loved it!
I totally agree about Doritos - hands down the best flavor, and capable of holding avocado dip.
Ruffles are for dipping, Pop-Tarts are put in a toaster so they “pop” up, Oreos dunk in milk. Andy Capp Cheddar Fries are one of my favorites.
😂😂😂😂 I have never laughed so hard. Especially when the poptarts came in lol.

I could watch an entire season of this
The reaction to the Combos was the best
Now I miss the Great British Menu sering Prue here. Love her to bits. 💐
Them hating the Reese’s peanut butter cups is the most insulting thing Brits have ever done to us & that’s counting the time they burnt down the White House 😡 😂
Wow! Not necessarily disagreeing, but the Brits have never resisted the opportunity to slag off us colonials, in any way, shape or form. Mind you, they're likely not wrong. Cheers!
How can you not love Reese's peanut butter cups. I'll forgive Prue...she doesn't like peanut butter.
Roll the tanks! Who cares if they have been allies for hundreds of years? Peanut butter and chocolate are a classic combo! I seriously doubt their ability to judge anything now. 😂
If it’s any consolation I LOVE peanut butter cups over any of our English choc combinations. Hurrah 😃
I don't agree. It leaves Reese's PB cups for us to enjoy!
